Morning Beast
Glad to see you got some of the white stuff, so did we, but hail not snow!!!
We had an incredible hail storm at around 3.00pm. A nice thick layer that layed for an hour or so.
My daughter made a hail man and we put him in the freezer. Pretty sad really that it's come to this.

Ooppps spoke to soon!! Heavy rain here now, wind picking up :0(

Morning everyone
Well what a difference 24hrs makes!!!! All calm here with a slight breeze, unlike yesterday morning where a dramatic hail storm, thunder and lightning woke me up in a state of panic, great to experience whilst cosy in my bed though.
The last few weeks have been so interesting weather wise both here and in North America, with some beautiful photos coming through but I really do feel for those that are struggling with the concequences. Here's hoping they get a bit of a resbite for a few days, although models are looking interesting again for next week.
In 1998 I went to Ottawa, months after a great ice and snow storm, the damage was incredible. Trees broken for miles around and massive power pylons and cables bent in two or just lying on the ground, an incredible sight to see, such damage.
I bought a book whilst there with amazing pictures of the storm. Mother nature really does deserve respect.

Hope you all had a great Christmas. I'm in Florida for The hols and am gutted to have missed a "White Christmas".
It has been 80-85oC here all week, not my idea of fun but the rest of the family are loving it!!!
-
Well grey and murky again, but I still prefer it to endless drizzle and rain.
Could somebody please explain to me where the "Snow Fields" are. it's often mentioned and I have no idea which area they are in? And just a little aside, are snow fields still snow fields even though they have no snow on for most of the year?

A stunning morning, -3c and and a crisp frost and clear skies. Now a dreary 6c with wall to wall cloud.
-
Just had a blustery shower with grapule and sleet, some decent flakes mixed in. Sunny in between the showers.

Will have to be fast!! It was melting in the sun just as I was leaving...
Yep managed to get there before it all melted. Looking beautiful in the sun.
Brrr morning all. Crisp morning here North of Bristol! Sun rising with that winter feel in the air. Love it
Love your profile picture Chris!

Had a heavy hail shower about an hour ago. Settled nicely on roof tops. First real sign of winter.

Might just take a trip to Princetown tomorrow just in case!!! Would be great for Cornwall to see a few flakes before the rest of the region but don't forget to send it on up to the line.

Ooopps forgot to ask, where do I change my password, have had to have a reset, thanks?

Let's hope the lower side of Yelverton sees some too!! I've polished up the snow boots, tracked down the hats and gloves and changed the car for a 4x4, here's to a good winter for us in the SW.
I'm going away this Christmas for 2 weeks so i hope i don't miss all the excitement.

Whow thought they might have peaked here in Dartmoor as well but just had a couple of incredible gusts. My car was written of in the 1987 storm. A roof from a warehouse landed on it and that was in the morning when things were easing of, so take care.

Any updates from Cornwall guys?

Well I've just been out to wedge a breeze block up against the garage door whilst my dear husband slumbers peacefully. Wind really picking up now. Our garage used to be hen house so only has a corrugated roof. Wonder if it'll still be there in the morning!!!

After a quiet hour or so on South Dartmoor, the winds are picking up with moderate/ heavy rainfall.
-
I've mentioned the storm to a few people and they've looked at me like I'm some kind of weather freak. How rude!!! But they're right of course.

Not much going on here, a bit muggy with a gentle wind.

Yeay, just started snowing here in Yelverton. It's my mums birthday tomorrow and I remember a few times when it snowed on that day.
Was also thinking back to the 80's, when I was bridesmaid on April 23rd at a wedding in Evesham. Wore summer dresses and had to walk to the church as the cars couldn't get through, Brrrr!!!
Well that doesn't happen very often in Plymouth, especially in April!!!Light snow ... in Plymouth!

Been cold and grey here all morning but starting to brighten a little. Not pinning my hopes on a heatwave for our egg hunt in the garden this afternoon!!! But at least it's dry.
Now have a shadow on my lounge floor, does this mean the elusive yellow thing is waking up?
-
Same here BOD, went to Chagford for breakfast, was bitterly cold in the wind but a beautiful sight with flakes glistening in the hazy sunshine (very poetic don't you think? ).
Nice to hear that some folk have actually seen a few flakes today, some posters such as jessandjon and those in Cornwall have had such a frustrating winter/spring, hope Twister Girl gets to see something as well.
-
Well, have had some light "snizzle" all afternoon, so after school pick up, I suggested to my 8 year old daughter that we drive higher on to the moor to see if it was any heavier up there.
Can you believe she wanted to go straight home!!!!! Is this what 21st century children are made of?
-
It means a cold weather alert, of which we do have a yellow one.
Well guys, i guess I will keep the faith a little longer then.
Who am I kidding, i've been following the forum for the last 5 years or so and I'm not likely to quit any year soon.
Model , radar and lampost watching is facinating stuff. I have learnt so much over the years, it just becomes more addictive. However, after the last few years and all it's disappointments, I have learnt to keep my expectations low.
I have an Auto-immune disease which prevents me from going out in the sun, so Im afraid I wont be praying for a heatwave but I do hope for a warm (not hot!!) rest of spring before we roll into the endless damp that we call summer.
Just to keep on topic, still bone dry and blustery here,(really must get myself a weather station me thinks).

And so it begins again, more heavy rain with gusts of wind increasing. I'd love 6" of snow but would settle for a long dry crisp period, and a chance to dry off!!
