Crispy and white here this morning. Slight covering.
Only a couple of cm's on the top of the moor at Princetown at about 6.00 pm last night but very icy apparently. Police stopping cars on some of the roads. Silly drivers parking on roadsides meaning emergency vehicles can't get through. Happens every time it snows.
Anyway, hope you all got at least a few flakes.

Yup, rain here too now.
I used to spread my snow predictions far and wide, but after being laughed at so often, I went to just telling friends and family. The past couple of years it's just been the kids. This year it's just the cats and I'm not sure they look truly convinced!!

Morning JB, where I am there's nothing at all, not even a frost!!!! Looks like a light covering on the webcam, but remember that's not on the tors, so might be worth a trip.
Good luck if you do decide to go.

Glad to see you guys have got some snow at last. Hope it lasts until the morning for you. More for next week hopefully.

Thanks for the heads up ET, will check in the morning...Have you got a link to the web cam you mentioned?
Thanks again

Hi JB sorry I can't post the link on my phone but search under 'Dartmoor Webcam' and it will give you the cam for Powderham Mill, Postbridge, just on from Princetown. It's in a bit of a dip but you can see a couple of the tors in the background. They were looking slightly white this morning but gone again by lunch.
Festival King is slighter closer to Princetown than me, he's sure to post if there's a covering. Fingers crossed for you.

Wow a couple of flashes and massive cracks of thunder, sounds like right over head. Husband has just turned the broadband hub off, so I'm down to using 3G, so slow. Grrrrrr!!
-
Icy graupel beating on the window keeping me awake. Things looking like they are a little white outside but no street lights here and certainly not worth going down stairs to switch a security light on!! Did see a flash of lightning 10 mins ago towards the coast but no thunder. Hope at least some of you are having good luck.

Batch of wintry ppn heading across Devon and Cornwall. Radar says currently snowing in whitsands right on the coast. Best chance of the white stuff at mid to lower levels in these parts in the next hour.
You need to get home quick before you miss it.
Does anybody know if lightning has been reported? Had to collect my soon early from the school sports field because a tree had fallen and blocked the road. The PE teacher said he saw it get struck by lightning when we had a heavy gusty shower.
-
Another beefy snow shower, grass has turned a little white but the winds are really gusting in the showers.
-
Brilliant news! Very jealous I missed it! Did much settle?
Nope none I'm afraid. The ground was too wet and it was blowing around in the wind. At least I've won my bet with my son that we would have a flake or two today!!
-
Yay!!! a 2 minute snow shower here. Sun shining now, but nice to see. Best snow shower for 2 years!!
-
So glad to hear some of you Cornish guys have at last seen a few flakes, you sure deserve it. You often don't have the same frustrated tone as the rest of us during the winter months, perhaps your expectations are lower!!!
Anyway hope you get some settling snow before the winter is out.
Happy Birthday to Nights King. Hope you have a great day and if you can't get snow today, I wish you a thick frost for this evening.
Stunning day here after a light frost. Some Cars coming off the moor with 1-2cm of snow on them this morning. Guess someone got lucky.

Would you Adam and Eve it have woken up to a thin blanket of snow. Checked the radar came down about an hour ago. Not enough to get really excited but good to see. Off to great mis tor now. Must be some thick stuff up there.
A fine layer of icing sugar here. Nothing showing on the Webcam at Postbridge but looking good in the background on the top of the moor. Have fun Festivalking.

Is there any way of finding out if it snowed or is snowing on Exmoor, i took my son up there on Wednesday (he is two and has never seen snow before) as we only live 40 mins away near Tiverton - i was really hoping i could take him again this morning?
Hi Rosieposie and welcome to the forum. I have tried searching a webcam for you but the only one I've found is down, maybe not active anymore. I'm afraid I can't help you with Exmoor but good luck with your search for snow this weekend.

Yes BB, an unexpected snow shower between Tavistock and Yelverton, which is on the south side of Dartmoor. Quite surprising as Tavistock is well known for it's rain!!!

Oh come on I think it was tongue in cheek and it would appear Steve took it well, let's not get into this in our friendly regional!
Missed the wind associated with the squal line, was it bad?
Ok if it was meant tongue in cheek, then I apologise to Windseeker.

Ahhemm.
More posts like that & I know where my snow shovel will be going.
Whether or not you agree with Mr M's analysis, his posts earn him respect and admiration. I wonder if the same can be said of you Windseeker?!!!!

Well I've no idea of the what the gusts are measuring down here but have just been outside to remove our 14" trampoline off the top of the car.
We considered moving it before but it has full netting and takes 3 men to lift and the bolts are rusted together, so we decided to risk it!!! It travelled over 20m but lifted over the top of our 6" fence without damaging it and ended up in the drive. Could have been a lot worse.
Hope you're all fairing ok out there. Winds seem to easing at the mo.

Winds picking up well here. Rain lashing against the windows

Snow line in these parts is at 250 m/asl. Walked up to 300 metres where a good covering commences. Could see towards Princetown that it's very thick there. Word locally that the road was shut last night but could see it flowing nicely today.
First time for our dog in snow. He loved it running and jumping rolling in it.
Snow fell lower down I.e at my house but obviously just to wet to stick. So off to work I go. Gutting as another snow shower just got going as I left.
Ho hum here's to the next event
Yes, looking good at Princetown and hopefully more excitement in the next week. I know we're all busy with the here and now, but what are peoples thoughts on the forecasted winds for tomorrow?

Morning. Hmmm.... Well there's no street lights here but the trampoline has a thin layer of something on it, I'm guessing it's icy sleet, which still seems to be falling. Not too much to get excited about. However it's a vague white colour so I'll take that. Hope there are pleasant surprises out the this morning.
-
As already been said all the action is likely to start overnight, I reckon you'll do well as Yelverton is at height (from memory) I guess its just a case whether the precipitation hits your location and if it does its likely to be some of the white stuff.
Yep R_C Yelverton is roughly 192m asl. not a bad height but we often seem to be the wrong side of the moor. Too close to the Tamar Bridge maybe !!! Glad to hear some snow reports though, way more interesting weather watching for cold lovers than last year.
-
3.0c here but this morning's winds have droppedd, so not feeling so bad. The gritters are out but apart from a couple of hail showers this morning, the rest has been rain. Will have to wait and see, but not getting too excited for my back yard.
-
Good Morning SNOW CRYSTAL. Many Thanks for the update and i wish you a change to some 50p sized flakes later today :-)
I`ll post some snow pics for you tomorrow if we get any!!
Thanks Offerman, I'd be quite happy with 5p sized flakes, would still be better than last year. Infact, the 3 frosts and 2 hail showers of the past few weeks have been better than last year. How sad is that?

We went up onto the moor early this morning whilst it was quiet and had breakfast at the Fox's Tor then went for a stomp around. Bitterly cold in the wind, but stunning in the sun.
On our way back, we were just in time to catch the herds of people making their way up, and as Festival King said, cars abandoned on the road side, hardly any room to get through. Police Landrovers were just arriving as we left.
I understand the desperation to see the snow but a bit more attention to parking might be a good idea!!!
