  1. A good example of how wintry March can be. Nothing extreme like 2013 or 2018 but a decent spell non the less. Heavy snow on and off all day yesterday, only the late afternoon spell stuck properly and lasted. Dipped to -8.1 overnight, most snow now melted. Ready for spring now.
  2. Wet and windy morning, it's been a while since we've had this weather. 40mm of rain since midnight, all sign of snow and drifts gone.
  3. It's all about winter tyres in this weather, although they're still not great in the sheet ice that's all over the roads around here!
  4. Just a dusting of snow here, but roads are pretty icy, even the main roads. Dread to think what they'll be like tomorrow. I hate it when we get a cold snap just after a very wet spell, so much water on the roads that just freezes.
  5. Couple of inches of wet snow here, strange as I'm sure I heard it pouring with rain in the night! Let's see how long it lasts...
  6. Yet another bone chilling day with wall to wall sunshine. Currently - 3.7C, hit a low of - 8.4C last night, think that's the lowest I've recorded without snow cover. Hoping we get enough snow this weekend to play in at some point, my daughter is itching for snow!
  7. Already -5C here, just a shame there isn't any snow to really bring the temperatures down. Although the frost is so thick it looks like snow!
  8. Bit of a wild day, blustery wind and torrential rain earlier with hail mixed in. The kind of weather that shows where the shed roof leaks are! A couple of cracks of thunder thrown in for good measure too.
  9. Died off now but did have a few close strikes. Just had a brief downpour with a strong breeze and that sultry summer's eve smell. What a great heatwave this has been and to happen mid August too, very rare!
  10. Just had that pass to the east of here, plenty of lightning and a nice cool breeze blowing through the house. Great end to such a hot day
  11. Finally some interesting weather on the cards after a very boring winter so far, although I'm hoping to avoid the worst of the winds as I'm still clearing up many trees that Arwen brought down. We'll see what snow ends up falling but nice to know the mountains at least will get loaded.
  12. Worst storm here for some time, big tree down in the garden and slates off the roof. Power went off at 9 o'clock and it's snowing horizontally! I think it's safe to say winter has arrived.
  13. Worst storm here for a long time. Power went off at 9 o'clock, big tree has come down in the garden and slates off the roof. Only had a quick survey around the house as its snowing horizontally and could barely stand up
  14. It's going to be a wild night, already very gusty. Quite exposed to the N and NW here, very unusual to have such strong winds from that direction. I feel chainsaws will be buzzing away during the next few days!
  15. Yep wetter than an otter's pocket out there, not far off 50mm of rain today. Classic autumn/ winter Lakeland weather.... persistent driving rain.
  16. I'd describe the summer as being pretty decent / good, only the lack of thunderstorms preventing it from being very good. It was remarkably dry throughout, plenty of warm sunny days and that long spell of hot weather in July. August only had a short damp, humid spell which usually lasts all month and is why I normally rank it as my worst month. Had to spend the past two evenings watering pots and veg plot, very unusual, normally August has plenty of rain. Only heard one rubble of thunder which is very disappointing but then we were spoilt last year.
  17. Such awful news, wildfires are truly scary things. I spent a good chunk of summer 2006 in BC, it was hot enough then, temps in the high 30s, the couple I was staying with lived out in the sticks and would get nervous when we had thunderstorms incase they sparked wildfires. Not a lot you can do to protect a timber house surrounded by bone dry forest.
  18. Was a lovely day yesterday, damp and cloudy today but looking great for the weekend. Finally some seasonal weather!
  19. A grim day indeed, the fire has been on for most of the day, terrible for the time of year. Keep thinking back to last year's perfect spring...
  20. Was a lovely late afternoon / evening yesterday, warm sunshine a rare beast this year. It's now 8.2*C and raining and windy. Will it ever warm up this year?!
  21. It's 4*C, heavy rain, snow on fells, yet another frost forecast for tonight. Will this winter ever end?
  22. Just had some heavy snow on a strong wind, stuck for a while but now gone. Temperature dropped to freezing, now at 3.3*C. Very wintery day.
  23. It'll be interesting to see the totals from Seathwaite /Honister etc. 62mm here, rain has been lashing the windows for the entire day.
  24. Absolutely hammering it down, has been for pretty much 24hrs. 45mm now and still coming down in sheets. Hopefully the dry season will arrive soon, April and May often dry and sunny.
