  1. Looks like it's turning to snow as it hits the Lakeland fells but will it be snow at this altitude? Temperature at 3.1C so think it'll be sleet here, maybe snow later?
  2. Forecast has improved for here tonight, be nice to top up this snow and it should keep a cover until Sunday. But we shall see I now know to not get excited until a big red blob on the radar is within 5 miles!
  3. 2 1/2 inches from overnight snow, not too bad. Let's see how much, if any, we get tonight.
  4. That was a decent shower that passed through, left a thin covering. Was coming in horizontally on a stiff wind, if only yesterday's forecast was right we'd have some big drifts now.
  5. Sounds great, those showers that left Belfast are pepping up again as they pass IOM. It's been a frustrating morning, were forecast continuous snow all day but all we've had is a few flakes blowing in the breeze while the Southern Uplands get plastered.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if you see snow sticking at your location tomorrow. Being among the fells should help with evaporative cooling and bring the temps and snowline down. Geoff Monk on the mountain forecast MWIS http://www.mwis.org.uk/pdf/weather-forecasts/LD-MWI-WM11440_2018-01-15_121542_1980000.pdf mentions snow into the valleys. 'Snow and hail showers, often heavy and sometimes coming in one after another to give intermittent whiteout from lower slopes up. Snow will lie into the valleys, except perhaps near the coast. Thunderstorms. Frequent snow and hail showers. Possible lightning'
  7. Return to default this morning, rain lashing the windows. Still good for snow tomorrow. Any thoughts on this storm tracking south? Still looking nasty for round here.
  8. Still looking good here for Tues, next week not quite the epic snowfest of GFS yesterday but it'll certainly be more exciting than this lame easterly that's now coming to an end. Last time we did well from a north westerly was Jan 2015, a band of snow showers merged to give several hours of blizzards, woke up in the morning to 5 inches on the back step but waist deep drifts on the road. A repeat of that would be nice!
  9. Already -4C here and we still have a couple of cms of snow from Thurs night. Coldest night of the year coming up?
  10. Managed to keep a 50% covering today, surprising as it was only a cm or so. Lovely views to the surrounding fells, central Lakeland fells have been pounded by snow showers all day. Winter has arrived!
  11. Heavy snow on the drive back, thin slushy mess at home. Temp at 1.1C Is there more tonight? Radar's drying up a bit.
  12. Slight improvement on yesterday's deluge! Feeling much colder though. Drove back from Glenridding earlier and spotted a dusting of snow on the higher tops, hoping to see the snowline drop over the coming days.
  13. How bizarre, I've no idea why the swear filter thinks the lake next to Keswick is an offensive word!
  14. Seems like a long time ago now. We didn't have much snow after the mid month thaw but the depth and longevity of cold was impressive. Even some of the big, deep lakes in the Lake District were beginning to freeze over. Here's Aira Force and Derwenangel delighter on Christmas day.
  15. Currently in conwy north Wales, very warm and humid here with a slight breeze. The sun is very odd, blood red like a sunset although it's high in the sky, never seen anything like it! A bad omen?!
  16. Lots of flooded roads around here and garden's pretty boggy. Rain seems to have passed through now but it has dropped 65mm since midnight!
  17. Does anyone know how to find Met Office weather station observations? The Met Office website is so hard to navigate and seems very dumbed down these days. All I want to do is see latest rainfall totals for Lake District stations.
  18. Proper autumn day, 40mph gusts and an impressive 32mm of rain since midnight.
  19. Well in the 8 years I've been living in Cumbria that was the best storm I've seen. Much better than the usual odd rumble then it's gone affair.
  20. Cracking storm at the minute, plenty of thunder n lightning. All quite elevated but best for a number of years!
  21. Sounds good, hard to tell if it'll hit here or just pass to the west. Think I'll abandon my planned bike ride n just watch the radar!
  22. Woken up by a small storm around six, only a few decent rumbles and 3mm of rain. Looks like that'll be it
  23. Third washout Monday in a row, 20mm of rain now and it's still chucking it down.
