  1. Got down to -8.3*C in the early hours, now at -6*C. Just shows how low it can get with a decent snow cover, plus yesterday only maxed at 0.2*C. Reasonable cold snap for this location.
  2. Just an extra cm here to top up yesterday's snow. A bone chilling -4.9*C out there though. Proper winters day.
  3. Been snowing constantly for about six hours now but due to it being so wet only amounted to two inches. Was belting it down an hour ago though! 20190129_113900_1280x720.mp4
  4. Snow's eased off now, about an inch on the ground. Very wet though, stuck to everything! Temp 0.7*C, dew -1.4*C
  5. Snowing hard here, temp 0.8*C. Have recorded 4mm of rain since midnight so I think it is melting, only a couple of cms on the ground.
  6. Had a low of -4*C, rising now the sun's up over the fell. Didn't think i'd have to wait this long for the first proper wintery morning. It has been a boring winter so far, not even had any notable storms or heavy rain since autumn.
  7. Had this mornings cover reduced to 50% but a decent heavy shower this last 10 mins has started to fill the gaps back in. Temp dropping back towards freezing.
  8. Woke to a couple of cms here, dry with mostly blue sky now, temp hovering around freezing.
  9. Snow falling here. It's been a long old wait this winter, hopefully it'll more than make up for it over the next month or so!
  10. It was 2010 after the driest first 6 months on record. The ban was bound to be cancelled as we enter August, when was the last time we had a hot, dry August in the North?
  11. Classic Lakeland August weather now, low cloud, heavy showers, drizzle, warm and muggy. It has been a very good summer so far and with May being so nice I'm more than satisfied this year. Constant sunshine in May, prolonged heat in June and drought in July. Fingers crossed we can do the equivalent in winter in the coming years!
  12. Which idiot tarmaced over the plaque? ! Yes summer 2012 as a whole was awful, hope we never see the likes of it again.
  13. Is now a good time to start buying shares in snow shovels?
  14. 1.2mm of rain this afternoon breaks a 21 day drought, quite impressive for these parts although we need more than that to help the garden. Private water supply also getting low. Lets hope the coming unsettled spell gives a good soak but doesn't hang around too long, this summer is shaping up to be a classic!
  15. Long live the east wind! Perfect for us out west, dry and sunny day after day, warm but not too hot and humid. The east wind brought us snow and ice days in march and now warm sunshine in may, lovely stuff!
  16. Still looking good for weds onwards next week, just hope the warmth lasts into next weekend. It'll feel even warmer than it shows though, we've only been above 10*C a few times this year, maxes this past week have been 6-8*C. Temps into the 20s plus humidity is going to feel extreme!
  17. Yes a wild night out there, strong north wind with sleet and wet snow. Very wet day today, feels more like January than April!
  18. I'm hoping for the opposite, the last cold March was 2013 and that was a decent summer, first for a number of years up here. Does anyone know how the background signals compare to 2013? I'm getting married in early June so as long as it's warm and dry for then I'm happy!
  19. Snow sticking readily now the sun has gone, about a cm on the grass, thin covering on tarmac. Temp -2.4C. Radar looking good for here this evening.
  20. Absolutely hammering it down here being blown all over the place in this gusty wind. Always impressive to see snow settling at this time of the day this late in the season. Just need these gaps in the showers to close up, the sun makes quick work on what has settled. Showers definitely looking beefier on the radar now.
  21. Moderate snow blowing around here in between sunny spells. Temp -0.2C. The beast returns!
  22. Chuffed for those in the south of the region getting in on the snow action! Didn't make it up here, just lovely sunshine. To be honest I'm done with winter now, roll on spring.
  23. Quite a decent winter here, consistently cold/ chilly, no extreme mild or wet. December had a very cold spell near the beginning with at least one ice day and thin cover of snow. January lots of polar maritime air, plenty of falling snow, few inches in the ground mid month. February was cold, no mild air to speak of, plenty of falling snow and finished with the beast from the east. I'd rate the winter overall 8/10.
