  1. Yep i'm definitely up for a classic summer this year. Raining here now and quite windy, some rumbles of thunder but nothing spectacular. Seem to be just catching the edge of these storms heading though the Lake District.
  2. Just watched a big storm move across the Lake District. Couldn't see much lightning but thunder was constant. Rain just started here and can hear thunder....
  3. Wow impressive rash of cells across our region. Was doing some gardening and noticed huge clouds suddenly pop up to the south. Now do I risk putting the washing out...
  4. Perfect summer weather at the moment, it's pretty rare that you can sit out comfortably at this hour in shorts and tshirt, especially in May! Hopefully lots more to come through summer proper. Fingers crossed for storms tomorrow but I'm not getting my hopes up
  5. Had a measly 1.2mm of the wet stuff. Hopefully a lot more over the next few days, the rivers around here haven't been this low for many years. A dry summer could mean water shortages later in the year, our spring is just a trickle now.
  6. Impressive heavy snow shower just pushed through. Left a slight cover on the grass and really knocked the temperature back.
  7. Snow sticking readily now from these showers. Temperature bang on freezing.
  8. Cm of snow here, not bad for early Nov. The fells should have a decent cover, that front took it's time to pass through.
  9. Cm of snow on the grass, 0.5C on the thermometer. Very early dose of lying snow, hopefully a sign of things to come!
  10. Saw Helvellyn during a brief clear spell today, nice covering of snow above 700m. I've now moved near Kendal with a distant view of the central fells, we'll see how they look in the morning.
  11. Would love to see a good old fashioned blizzard this year like we had in March 2013.
  12. Came across this interesting article. We have had some major flood events in recent years and after 250 year old Pooley Bridge collapsed last December it made me think whether the bridge had ever seen a flood of that magnitude before. It seems from this research that we are indeed living in interesting times; from 600 years of sediment records from Basenthwaite Lake, two thirds of big flood events occurred in the last 20 years. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-37304856 http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2016/EGU2016-12868.pdf
  13. Very wet and windy day, becks on the fells around here are foaming white, not seen for many months. Sure sign autumn is starting to take hold.
  14. Autumn arrived right on cue yesterday with heavy rain and strong winds. I count August as an autumn month now with Summer returning in September. September being the most reliable month in recent years for dry settled weather.
  15. Storm number 3 now but just lots of rain and a few rumbles. Number 4 looks close behind, this is turning into a good year for thunder!
  16. Yes there was loud shot gun thunder but also a strange low shimmering type that I can only describe as like shattering glass.
  17. Lots of thunder and close CG lightning, all happened too fast to get the camera and tripod set up. Very impressive storm, had some thunder I hadn't heard before, sounded like glass shattering?! Also knocked the electricity out for a short while, impressive stuff.
  18. Next storm incoming, just heard thunder and looking very dark to my South West
  19. Well that was a surprise! Wasn't expecting storms this morning. Everything suddenly went very dark, very intense rainfall and a good few rumbles of thunder. Still warm at 20.3C and very humid.
  20. Jesus it's hot, just worked out the humidex for here and it's 37C! Have had to come in from mowing the large lawn here to rest and dunk my head in the sink. This is definitely heat stroke weather working outside in the open.
  21. Storm number two incoming. I'll never get this grass cut!
  22. Not much showing on radar but heavy rain just started and 6/7 claps of thunder heard in the past 10 mins. If only it waited another couple of hours I'm halfway through cutting the lawn!
  23. Warm, sticky day. Had a few rumbles of thunder and a brief shower but the best seems to be west of here.
  24. Feeling hot today, temp now at 24C. Such an amazing spell of weather in these parts, barely any rain for weeks, lots of sunshine and now really hotting up with the chance of storms. This is why I tend to rate May and June as my favourite time of year; usually the first decent hot spell, lots of daylight, trees in full leaf, plants looking lush with the majority in flower and the knowledge there's the potential for another few months of this weather. Lovely!
  25. Another warm, sunny day. High level cloud rolled in mid afternoon but still warm now at 18.4C. Not had a drop of rain for over a week now, ground drying out nicely. Hoping for more of the same though summer!
