  1. I really do hope thats wrong, freezing rain hitting Manchester and Liverpool and other major towns in the northwest at the peak of rush hour will not be pretty.
  2. -4c here this morning. Glad im on holiday as the car is a block of ice after last nights frost. Even colder tonight by looks of things.
  3. Fog finally cleared here around 3pm, to lovely clear blue skies. Snow still lying on the grass and footpaths but has now thawed on the roads. But saying that its all now froze again and the roads are probably worse than they were. Cars make a great cracking sound as they drive over the ice.
  4. Still got the thick fog we had yesterday, infact it seems thicker this morning. Has some rain last night around 1am that I think then froze on the ground. I expected to wake up to find the snow gone but it seems the rain hardly effected, probably made it even worse to walk on if anything.
  5. Quite glad I chose to stay in now and not go out for a walk. Still foggy here, I'd say its got even worse here the past hour or so after looking like it was slowly lifting. I have to say the past 2 years we've had loads of fog, nearly everytime its snowed, before the past couple of years fog had got pretty rare around here I thought.
  6. I posted this earlier, pretty fair assesment of this week I think http://matthugo.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/the-week-ahead-monday-6th-to-friday-10th-february-12/ Countryfile forecast later should give a good idea too.
  7. Trouble with Mark Vogan is he's been calling for a severe cold spell the "week after next" since early december. I do agree with him that there is potential at the moment for what he's calling for but I can't help but feel he's used the approach of throw as many darts and one might hit the target, lately. But apparently he was pretty close with predictions last winter and the winter before that so fair play to him for that.
  8. Think this is slightly true to be honest. My mate, in London at the moment, rang me saying it had just started snowing and his mates already thought there was 10cm after 10 mins. When in truth there was only just 10mm
  9. Not seen it posted already but here's Matt Hugo's latest thoughts for the week ahead http://matthugo.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/the-week-ahead-monday-6th-to-friday-10th-february-12/
  10. Still very foggy here. Temp around 2.5C. Snow has only melted on a few rooftops, roads still covered.
  11. As you can probably guess, its very foggy here too. I was going to go for a walk this morning but there doesn't look much point if you can't see anything. Unless some of the hills are above it?
  12. Love how silent it becomes outside at night when it snows........until you get the local dipstick trying to drift his car around a corner, and failing in the process...
  13. You missed the coldest ones, 4 places -50c and below! Found these on another forum I use from someone in Finland. And you know when the Finnish can't deal with cold and snow, we have no chance. (some strong language by the way) http://hs11.snstatic...54830614?ts=711 Anyway back to our weather, wheres this clear sky gone? Very cloudy here still.
  14. Haha, my mums got to go into work tomorrow morning, fortunately we all drive land rovers, parents have a Freelander, I have a Defender. I might have to skip on my lie in and have to drive, it all depends how brave she is feeling  .
  15. Just been outside for a quick measure of the snow, 12cm in a sheltered spot, 7cm on the lawn. Seems to be a bit sleety out there now, cant complain though we've had a good snowfall and looks like there will be a frost tonight for most people. Ice will be a big problem tomorrow morning, fortunately not many people have to go anywhere.
  16. Hmm yeah, at least you now know for another time. Just opened my window and got showered in ice that had stuck all around it. Werent expecting that to happen
  17. You know you want to, would say it would be a great day to be out and about around there tomorrow. Think I shall go for a walk too tomorrow, Shuttlingsloe usually pretty good for great views.
  18. Id say Buxton just about beats us, been a couple of times this winter I've seen cars coming over the tops with snow on when its been dry or raining here. But yeah, Macc is pretty damn good for snow it has to be said.
  19. Really coming down here now, past 20 mins have pushed it to around 10cm now.
  20. Id hate / love to see Mancini's response if it does and he loses his 2-0 lead lol. Snow_Joke the M60 looks mental, won't be surprised if it gets closed looking at the snow there.
  21. Register with a site like flickr or imageshack and then upload to them, then you the insert image icon when posting. And put the link in that.
  22. I noticed this when defrosting the car before going out earlier when it landed on the windscreen, wasn't your usual flake so to speak, quite a elongated shard as you say, with bigger flakes mixed in. Only helping it blow around even more I feel. The Macclefield to Congleton road is quite iffy now too in places a friend has just told me. Also BBC travel news says the Macclesfield to Poynton road is hazardous in places. Seems they can't get enough grit down to keep them clear at the moment.
  23. A537 Cat And Fiddle closed too, not sure if you mentioned that one? Edit just seen you beat me to it haha
  24. Off the top of my head, 5th I think (Sunday night I know that as I was in 6th form the next day), might be wrong though, Came at the end of the cold spell that year. Warmed up quite alot afterwards as it had mostly melted come the afternoon of the next day.
  25. Yep I agree, think some places could get a surprise in the coming hours. Especially if they have given up and are not keeping an eye on it. I remember Feb 09 event was rain here then turned to snow without me noticing. Next time I looked out there was 15cm on the ground. Not saying it will be that extreme for some tonight but who knows, if that heavier precip becomes more widespread and moves inland without weakening.
