Hail/rain mix here ..... That'll do for starters :-) Happy Christmas all :-)

Same here :-( A caravan on the North Wales Coast from this Sat for one week grrrrNo surprise really from the models. Just as I go on holiday I turn into a giant Atlantic low pressure magnet, every time. Just like at uni. The weather went catastrophically wrong once my exams in May had finished

I'm praying that today's output comes to fruition. I'm booked in for my annual caravan week in North Wales from 26th (can't afford anything where I'm guaranteed warmth and sunshine). Please please Weather Gods grant me today's output!

Not sure what the weather has been doing in the south of the region but here near Penrith it's been mainly cloudy with a bit of sun and a bit of drizzle. Not that it's bothered me and my wee boy as we've been at Centre Parcs swimming in the hot outside spa pool :-)

This is sounding pretty scarey now. I can't remember the last time we've had winds and gusts for such a prolonged period and at this strength. Lights flickering, windows creaking, howling down the chimney.

75mph gusts at Crosby. It's been getting worse all evening.

69mph recorded at Crosby now and I can well believe it. It's proper wild out there now

Sky news reporting over 400000 homes in Wales now without power !!!
EDIT --- they just revised it down to 40000 :-\

Very blowy here. Crosby gusts recorded 56mph at 3pm but there have been much stronger ones here since then.
-
Sun has now gone, wind is picking up again here and the grey cloud is arriving just in time for my walk to school.
-
The worst is yet to come for us up North.
-
Interestingly the wind got a little strong before but has now died right down here as it's getting brighter, suggesting we may get away with it compared to other parts, seems to be picking up in coastal areas further north though.
I think the strongest winds for us were due to hit after 4pm today.

At the minute Wirral is under amber but if the red should be more east than we will be right in the firing line - won't we?
Unlikely though thankfully.

This seems like a big downgrade Stephen? The 06z downgrades it slightly for us as the propensity has been for it to move southwards with time. In that case we will probably "only" get 45-55mph gusts away from the immediate coastline. On the coast 55-65mph possible based on the latest GFS. Certainly NW Wales is in the firing line.

Might have been sold on the sly by a Netweather 'Widow' :-DThe Kestrel series start off with basic features, such as the 1000, which will just take windspeeds, then they go up, 2000, 2500, and the 3000 which is the one I have. It does temp (air, water, snow) dew point, humidity, wind chill, heat index, and it's also waterproof to a metre but also floats. The further the range goes up, the more features you get. I bought mine on eBay about two years ago, I got it for £39.99 new, when I did a web search, I was gobsmacked to see how expensive it was, I think mine fell off of the back of a lorry or the seller made a mistake! It has been such a reliable bit of kit though, cheapest I've seen it since is around £150/£160

Bad planning from the year dot ...... We've stolen our natural sea defences and built promenades over them. Bulldoze the lot I say LOL.

Wow ... so this is upgrading!?Real tight pressure gradient on the GFS 12z, storm force winds affecting much of Ireland and the western mainland between S Scotland and SW Wales, wouldn't like to be out in the Irish Sea come Saturday!
gfsss.gif Mean speeds in km/h. 90-95km/h = 56-59mph.

It's always on a Friday for the north west. Wierd but surprisingly true over the past few winters. The iphone weather app put me on for sleet on friday. minus 1 on Thurs night. Fingers crossed to be change for better.

We've got some fabulous posters in the MOD working with far less data than the Met O. If it does all go pear shaped I for one will feel very sad for those who spend so much time compiling those informative posts. I wish we had access to the same data as the Met O :-(

Whilst I am lurking in the mod thread and quietly getting excited I have to constantly remind myself that it would take something truly exceptional to give my back yard a dollop of snow. Ever the optimist I live in hope.
