This is the worst destruction i have known around these parts.
Wolverhampton Crown Court was evacuated this morning as Storm Doris struck.
Panels were falling from the ceiling in the reception area leaving wiring exposed and lights were flickering on and off as gale force winds swept.
A tannoy announcement was made at around 10.50am, telling all members of the public and barristers to leave the court. Staff were asked to remain.
Security guards told people to head home and that the court would remain shut for the whole day.

Doris expected 53N/00E 974 by midday tomorrow. That takes it into the North Sea south of Hull, that seems like a track further south than before.
From what I've seen most charts take the storm just north of hull so maybe 50 miles or so further south

Met office bring the warning zone further south with the amber zone over the whole of the midlands bordering on London, Amber for snow borders and south central Scotland

The areas currently under greatest threat looks similiar to the areas that were badly hit by that great gale of early January 1976. I hope it is not as bad as this storm.
Yep the day I was born parents said it was a nightmare

60 mph for you Scottish lot may seem like a breeze but here inland that packs a punch more of a concern though as you stated is the effect the Cheshire gap could have on the gusts I expect some areas could face quite a bit of disruption

Should be interesting to see how this one develops.

Yep, my experiences are the same. As I said, that wind direction is a destructive one for these parts.
I expect if it takes a track like the aperge winds will be funnelling down through the Cheshire gap perhaps even amplifying it more?

Looks like the first real interesting weather of the year for these parts. The GFS 12z slightly delays it as compared to the 06z which has the effect of it deepening more over our shores than out over the North Sea. The strongest winds from Doris still look to be off the east coast through the afternoon. Wind gusts look to be in the region of 60-70mph across a swathe of N England and the N Midlands, plenty strong enough for some disruption but nothing too out of the ordinary. It will come as a bit of a shock though after what has been a very quiet Autumn/Winter for wind events.
Your right not to out of the ordinary. But the areas it may effect those types of winds are quite rare inland
