  1. sorry to hear the sad news, thoughts with you and his family snow is getting less intense now, i can honestly say that, IF, this is just a starter to what is being talked about in the mod forum, then i am a little bit scared!
  2. snow has gone mental here! very heavy and blowing around all over the place
  3. would say about 3 - 4cm here now, finally getting bigger flakes and more intense, at least the cars have stopped messing up my snow!!!! lol
  4. getting heavier now, and so it begins................................
  5. just started to see a few light flakes in the wind, thinish cloud cover tho as i can still see the moon, but its a start!
  6. a few flakes floating on the breeze here................................CMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. so as its here early, does that mean its sped up or that its just the first part and the main band will be here around 9pm?? confused!!!!!!!!!!! lol
  8. lol, yeah it means that too, but i think on here it's Above Sea Level
  9. whats everyone's asl? and will that make any difference, away from the coast, for ppn amounts? i dont like to ask these questions as there are loads that dont get answered, but i'm just curious as where i am i always get the "well you get more snow because of where you live" afaik my asl is 185 thanks lee
  10. to be honest i wouldn't take the BBC forecasts to heart, this event will still change a bit from now untill it starts, its more nowcasting really, just keep an eye on any posts from Mr Murr and chino, etc, i'd go by what they say as they are monitoring events unfold, the BBC forecasts are not much help atm cant see any rain for us in the SE maybe a sleety mix, if it happens then it happens, but with the models showing us staying cold/very cold i'd think it's more likely to be snow, and next week looks promising for more of the white stuff too!
  11. no snow here yet, sky is thick with grey clouds, hope to get a couple of flurries before the event tonight! will my ASL of 185 make any difference to the amounts? just curious
  12. the snow amounts are conservative i think, eveytime we are forcast snow its always 5 - 10cm!!! lol just covering there butts i reckon anyway...............36 and lamposts FTW!!!!!!! never to old or young to LP watch
  13. the 18z is massivley over progressive, i wouldn't take much notice of it if i were you, if Mr Murr were here he'd tell you all sorts of tech stuff as to why its a s**t run, 12z is the most reliable from what i can gather, the general concensus is the south east stays in the -10 uppers for the week, maybe even colder, with the prospect of more potential snow, so just relax and enjoy tomorrow
  14. oh yes the famed "pub run" must be true then....................................................................... its going to stay very cold through the whole week, so the rain, may be slightly fluffyier and whiter than the normal stuff! lol
  15. i have a lampost right outside my flat, as its only 1 bedroom, when my son stays over we sleep in the frontroom, and during 2010's event i made my wife and son sleep with the curtains open just so if i woke up during the night i could see if it was snowing!!! thats how hardcore i am, i make others suffer so i can watch the snow! lol
  16. i have seen massive flakes once, a few years ago, i went food shopping at Tesco in Pembury, in Tunbridge Wells, i was walking back to the car and something hit me on the head, then all hell broke loose for about 5 mins as huge wet snow flakes(clumps) fell you could actually hear them hit the ground with a thud lol, never seen it since!
  17. I think the models are overestimating the warm front and underestimating the strength of the block, plus its nearly 4 days away skint time for changes :-)
  18. to be honest if the cold wins this weekend, then i think we may see some record breaking snowfall down here, and at the end of the forecast i just watched i think he dropped a hint at what he thinks will win..............
  19. the local weather on BBC was rubish! but the national one showed a battlefront??? if they all use the same data from the Met Office how can they be different? 90cms seems a tad on the large side, 9mm would be welcome at the moment lol
  20. what is annoying me a hell of alot at the moment is the "mild brigade" and the way they keep there views to themselves when the models show cold, but as soon as one shows a less cold solution they are there like rats! and the only reason is to bait other users, the MOD thread is almost unbearable to be honest. i do belive that we will get snow, and very possibly, lots of it. i just wish there was a more panoramic assessment of what the models show rather than people cherry picking mild synoptics to cause bad feeling......... PHEW............rant over, sorry peeps
  21. they wont mention it because the simply dont know, forecasting convective showers is more of a nowcast thing so dont give up!
  22. I have to laugh at all the negativity this afternoon, even more so after reading last nights posts first! the "breakdown" has been forecast for a few days now and if it does happen it will be a brief affair with potential for battleground snow events, the block is not "sunk" as some people like to say, (mainly to get a rise out of others) it too had been forecast to be pushed back before powering back in, again with the chance of more battleground snow, this scandi high is immense and will take alot more shifting from the ever weaker Atlantic, i am all for atlantic incursions, because the snow potential is very good the models have no idea what is going on after T+48/T+72 so i think a little calm is needed and dont take each run at face value, the met have binned some of there output already in the last couple of weeks due to it being way way off the mark, this could be another wobble. fingers crossed guys
  23. Don't underestimate convection alot of events crop up in a small time frame get the cold in place and worry about snow later! Personally i think this could be the start of a very special February, got everything crossed, good luck to all
