Think of the long days this way, more time to enjoy the snow-fest fun!
Losing hope, but won't admit defeat yet.
**EDIT**
Looking at the GFS 18z, I'm losing all hope!
-
No, some of us work nights!!!Blimey people stayed up all night for severe cold which wasn't there in the first place. :80:
pretty good agreement between the two main models again. Brief cold spell this weekend slight figit between the two as we head towards deep fi due to a short wave feature before agreeing again at T192 and a possible return to a more zonal flow.
Off too work now.
And I suggest you look again. A slight digit as we head to deep FI? There is a world of difference between the 120 charts ECM and GFS! And you should know well that this can/usually does effect future patterns.
This place works great without the personal attacks pit!
PS. Posting from phone so cannot show charts to prove my point

Out to 144 now and it would appear to show the mid Atlantic wanting to push into Greenland more progressive than the 12z run... Early doors yet though, not toomuch shifting from the Russian HP mind!
(edit: pv knocks the encroaching HP for 6 as before... FI currently at 96 hrs for me too, no real agreement between ECM and GFS after that point)
I was hoping to have all this resolved today!!!
-
Just saw this BFTP. Interesting, yet insignificant at the moment... Please God the shift gets momentum!!!
-
Please God. Looking good from the last few model runs, gfs aside!Decent frost on the cards tonight, hopefully a precursor to the first real snow of the winter setting in next weekend...
-
Because historically it's the most unreliable run. Bias excluded!
-
Hmmm, GFS 6z looking good dudes! Pity it's just not reliable on its own. Still, it Kees the interest alive!
-
Just to echo that. Happy Christmas and new year to all here on netweather, from the Dub on the thread!!! Have a good one folks, stay safe and hopefully we'll be reviewing colder models as they start down the line, sooner rather than later!
-
In work, and the very unreliable thermometer in here states its 5 degrees... Certainly feels milder... Have to do a small bit of outdoor painting this week. Reckon Wednesday morning is my best bet. Seems it may be the driest spell over 48 hours or so to allow it dry!!!
-
Lovely!!! Half inch fell Overnight!!! Happy dude!
-
Nowt here down south and east!!!
-
raining. no sleet/snow at all. 3.9 deg C
-
Careful watcher... Some might see the whips and chains as a reward, of sorts!
It's bloody vicious out there today. Intermittent showers of rain, sleet and snow, under winds of about 35mph average, but gusted to 65mph a while back... Windchill is -6!!!
-
First snow for me this year too... Nearly got the face blown off me coming home from work this morning... Baltic feel in that strong wind!!! Not sticking, but nice to see it fall nonetheless!
-
Indeed, in fairness, looking at all the options, it does indeed look like the 2 islands will experience gale force winds, and that there will be structural damage. The extent of which, yet to be decided.Nope but I fancy a bit of perspective right now lol
That said, I do think both the UKMO and Ireland's Met Eireann should at least be issuing early warnings for these 2 brutes. It does indeed look bad.
-
Very valid point 492, human intuition can often out do computerised models... Well said, and worth remembering
-
I'll finish that...yep definately the calm before....
THE STORM.... It's here, and very wild indeed!
-
Thanks JH, great analysis.
-
Enjoy it folks. Not so much as a flake of sleet even fell in Dublin these last 2 days...
-
No snow. Had a light rain shower at tea time, but nothing wintery.
Dew point of 0.5 and a temp now of 1.6 under clear skies, but a wind chill of -5. Feeling baltic!
-
And what are we wagering on??
I first first read that as "a little wagner perhaps". Was gonna suggest some Bach, but I guess that doesn't matter now...
So yeah, what's the wager!?
I'll wager that the east coast gets telephone box all snow... Particularly my area. Met E said wintery showers in all areas IIRC. I'm just not that lucky! Good luck to all our northern and north western brethren, enjoy the wintery spell. *jealous*
-
A little wager perhaps??? :-)
-
I'd imagine my area will see little in the way of any precipitation... Might take a spin up to Derry for the craic!
-
Disagree respectfully! It's in the models, and this is the model discussion thread... And in fairness, patterns are often picked up in FI by the major players, so by all means look into FI. In my humble opinion of course.I really don't think we should be looking at Fi it changes all the time!

Patience PS, this could end up as a NE'ly or N'ly if the HP keeps going west!
