  1. IOW always is in a sweet spot when we actually manage to get a good set up here, 360 degree view!

I'll be watching from Portsdown on the mainland aha!

Haha, it depends which way the cells come from, we have a lot of high ground, but i get what you mean, we can drive anywhere haha, been sat on Brading and Culver downs watching mainland storms before now lol :p

  2. Im thinking of heading up Culver Cliffs when/if things start to kick off now have a new set of wheels :)

Hello Neighbour, I seriously think the best bet to view the lightning coming in from a distant (if it reaches that is) You need to go either South Side of the Island or the West, the view from culver is far east, and the lightning will be behind ventnor downs, if you get what im saying

  3. I'd stay where you are. You've better photo opportunities, being on an island IMHO (big skies in all directions) and as long as the activity is relatively near you, committing to a ferry might end up being a pain (you can't just say 'change direction' to the ferry operator etc.) If you know the activity is going to be a two hour plus ferry journey, as a minimum, then you could decide to do it.

The likelihood, before the radar watching timescale, though, is that you'll likely be in a reasonable place where you are. :)

That is the problem, is the ferries from this place, its so so expensive at times! But the problem I have is that me and my friend actually now get sponsored by Bournemouth News and at times channel 4 to do storm chasing around the uk, basically we was on Channel 4 for a severe weather and Thunderstorm documentary back at Christmas, but they want us to send them live footage whenever things get good basically, so im in an awkward situation whether to stay here or go to the mainland, because this could go either way haha :/  :)

  4. Im still not overly convinced on this stuff tomorrow night, however Friday Morning and Early Afternoon looks very interesting indeed, still not sure whether to stay on the isle of wight or go for a mainland chase! As theres  a chance of Elevated stuff too! Though as the day goes on, to me it looks like it just goes into a general area of thundery rain..... But it looks interesting either way

  5. The last notable storms I recall firing over the channel were those on 6th August 2008...they were beasts :D

Last 2 years were also very good years for these parts, though unfortunately i was in Guernsey last year when the island was getting battered, though i did have some good ones down there.

2013 A few occasions I remember, especially one June Morning when the channel decided to explode Elevated storms all Morning, ahhh I want those back :(

  6. December 2010 here was great, I remember the 1st to 2nd December 2010 a huge band of snow developed to our east and came right over giving us nearly 18-19 hours of continuous moderate to heavy snow! a lot of places on the island had upto 10 inches to a foot of level snow! Yeah the next day rain came through but after that there were another 3/4 snow events that month! was great

  7. Heres my full view from what just happened....

Around 5ish, had a phone call from my mate saying that he actually had seen a lightning strike and the sky was mental! So I shot down to the seafront to get a better look, there was a shelf cloud to my South East, and to my North there was this absolute beast of a shower coming directly for us! Culver disappeared in Snow and Soft hail! Then my mate came to pick me up to chase it! It first started as sleet, then rapidly turned to very heavy snow! Like we got by Wroxall and it  got so heavy we litereally had to stop driving as it was a white out! Settling everywhere! It was an OMG moment :O.

Was very fun to be out in.

Downfall though we cam across a pretty bad Accident not far from Shanklin :/, and buses stopped running too and people had to walk, felt sorry for them :(

  8. Cold rain here in the west of the Isle of Wight.  Precipitation not heavy enough for cooling, looks like we are just on the edge of it.

Strange, the whole of the East side of the IOW and where I was, we just got absolutely battered by extremely heavy snow, like really really heavy, it settled everywher! and lasted a good 45 minutes! Came across a pretty bad accident too!
