It was hailing as well, sounded like somebody was pouring frozen peas down the window. I dove out of bed when I saw the lightning to try to open the window before the thunder but because it was close I didn't make it before the thunder got here. Haven't heard a bit of thunder like that on a while. That was a wardrobe shaker. I think that was the first time I've seen hail in darkness as well.

Question about the sound level of thunder
Mesoscale replied to ZammoUK's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Another thing that could have been a factor is atmospheric audio ducting, the sound wave gets trapped in this case within a air layer thats close to the ground. The sound has no were to escape making it a lot louder then a normal crack of thunder. Think of it like a firework, you let a fire cracker off in the open palm of your hand and it burns but doesn't do any damage. As soon as you close your hand and set it off you will lose your fingers etc. -

May Severe Thunderstorm: Yesterdays Snow Storm dubbed Snowapaloza or Caesar by the Weather Channel: EDIT: top temperature there today is -12C in the city with out lying areas as cold as -22C! -

Unfortunate really! -

Im sorry guys I told my mum about it, its my fault. I should have kept it quite haha -
When do you think the latest date would be next week before the snow starts? I was wondering if it was worth me taking the last 2/3 days off to get home so I don't have to worry about trying to get home?

May I enquire to ask were you get the snow and ice cover png's from please? Thank you. It snowed back home in Watford this morning but quickly melted away according to my mother, we didn't get anything here in Southampton but wind chills stayed below freezing all day. -

Its early yet, its a good sign that snow/sleet is falling so early in the season. Someone said there was snow flurries in Southampton but ive been looking out my window and ive not seen anything. The lamp posts are far enough away that it would be hard to make out any small amount of snow.
