Latest radar has it 200 miles west over NI and as far north as the central belt. And it's 'growing' ENE. It also appears to be 2 hours ahead of modelling, so who knows!

Heavy snow showers all morning here. There's around 20-30 cm depth, but in between the heavy stuff, the snow has turned sleety and the depth compacts a little. I've been slowly clearing the dirt track to our place but it's about 100 metres long and every shower that comes by makes me retreat indoors. Being self-employed, not getting out, or other people crying off because of the weather/roads costs me and I'm hoping the disruption over the next couple of days from the overnight snow is minimal.
I think the A701 is back open now over the Devil's Beeftubs - not very often that that gets blocked and Moffat gets cut off from the north. Two gritters in convoy went passed at around 10am here - followed by a convoy of a dozen cars and trucks.

Sorry for asking the obvious but is this keeping up all night? That commute from kilmarnock to Motherwell was brutal and I will start looking into taking the train if conditions are similar tomorrow :-D
2/3am apparently. But that's from the telly and not my forecast.

Snow building up on the window sill against the double glazing. And I have a one foot plus drift by the coal bunker. Simply marvellous.

We've got 7 inches here and just had another heavy fall. The A7 has gone very quiet so not sure if it's open or not - maybe queues up at Middleton moor. All neighbours who work are home early and cooried in, and it feels like xmas
Shuggee - not very handy taking the buses off the Penecuik route, all the Peebles folk at work in Embra now will be stuck there!
Right! I phoned I to work from at home at 06:45. Soooo pleased i did - the main roads are skating rinks with cars crawling past, the few cars that are out that is. What a day.

Pelting it down here again. Heaviest shower since this morning!
Is is settling? Just found out buses were taken off the Penicuik routes earlier.

By the way is anyone else finding the netweather rain radar charts are stuck at 6.15?

If you switch to ppn type it clears the error. All a bit odd.

Good 6cm here in Upper Tweeddale. More coming down - it's going to be piling up throughout today. Weds evening totals of 15+?

Still very wet here too. Heavy shower has given a covering, but it's dripping from trees and melting. Baby steps to tomorrow's less marginal conditions.

Snaw! Big fat heavy flakes and lying.
Same for me James. That soft tinkle of heavy snow hitting bushes and assorted garden bits n bobs. Lovely

Snowing here just now. First proper shower of the day/ eve. The ground is very wet so it is not sticking yet. Hopefully a further drop in temperature will allow the snow to settle.
I'm about to get that one.
Was driving home from Peebles through Drumelzier this afternoon and snow had settled already above 300m.

Love it when Sean Batty uses the phrase, "snow piling-in".

My prediction for upper tweeddale:
Tues/Weds 15.6cm
Storm 7cm and a period of sleet as she is overhead
Fri-Sun 4.9cm
Although the storm track is correcting south with every run...

Now, now - it's difficult for everyone when the mood goes south (literally ). Post away in MOD your model commentary.

Looking like an Xmas night/Boxing Day repeat for us western Borders' folk.

Seems to be a line from Dunbar to Aberfeldy and beyond, and the showers just not pushing past
Having watched it barely move all day - seems it's getting its act into gear just now. Edging ESE and intensifying.

Driving into Edinburgh through that lot this morning was treacherous. Gritting teams had no chance with the switch from rain to snow. Thankfully far less traffic with the school holidays.

Unexpected* heavy snow on again.
* the best kind of snow?

Less than 1mm this morning for me. The heavy ppn just didn't pass near whilst other parts of the Borders had lots. Weird.
Rainy sleet on now despite my elevation and a temp never higher than 0.5°C today - at least there's still the 11cm from early Boxing Day
