This is a thread to monitor the pressure recordings during the upcoming spell of high pressure over the UK, I think the main focus will be on Wales as indications are that the pressure will be close to equaling the record if not breaking it. Wales Highest: 27 January 1992, Sennybridge, Powys 1049.2 hPa. Cardiff ensembles as an example Meteociel.fr - Tableaux GEFS WWW.METEOCIEL.FR La météo en temps réel et prévisions météo pour la France, Observations météo, modèles numériques et logiciels météo (GFS, ECMWF, UKMO, GEM, AROME, ARPEGE, JMA) I will keep monitoring and update if any changes but as things stand if there are any Welsh members with their own weather stations that could provide pressure readings on Sunday / Monday that would be great.

Model Output Discussion - Happy New Year!

I must be on another planet?? Cannot see the reason for all the pessimism Theme still remains - higher pressure gradually moving west and things turning cooler / colder from the NW / N lets just focus on that stage first before trying to write it off as a "toppler" -

coldest one for here was this at a tasty -14.3 850hpa (obviously at the more extreme end of the scale) things ticking along nicely -
Thanks I try my best, just hoping this stays on track and doesn't make me look stupid bigsnows garden soon...

As I posted in the model thread last night that is my general expectation the high gradually moving west allowing cooler / colder shots from the NW / N, then if we get the full potential benefits from phase 7 MJO which is where my real interest lies - 3 words - Higher Pressure Greenland. A long way to go but these types of runs should continue as we move forward IMO.

Will wait until tomorrows runs then I will probably end up opening a separate thread to monitor this as some around 1050 hpa popping up now, -

A decent set of ensembles for here with a few -10 850s P4 is what I am looking for more of linking in with what I discussed last night about phase 7 and heights going toward Greenland and a NE / E flow also the GEFS keen on a possible displacement event in the strat though given how sketchy the models have been with regards to the PV strength will need to see this come into nearer time frames before any confidence. -

Yes I wonder if the Welsh high pressure record could be under threat "Highest: 27 January 1992, Sennybridge, Powys 1049.2 hPa." List of atmospheric pressure records in Europe - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG other pressure values on the rmets article "The Highest of the Highs ╦ Extremes of barometric pressure" -

Good luck with that, you will need to make a phase 9 magically appear first -

Model Output Discussion - Happy New Year!
Kirkcaldy Weather replied to BlueHedgehog074's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
MJO | grampianweather WWW.FRENCHSCOTPILOTWEATHER.COM As I mentioned in my earlier post the outlook does appear to tie in with the MJO and given that phase 7 isn't being shown until around another week or so it will probably take time for the models to pick up on any possible effects (also factoring in the usual lag times) -

Just highlighting this section from Stewart's excellent post, looks like the GEM ensembles keen on this pattern (higher pressure from the pacific and also Atlantic and Siberian / Scandinavian PV) Looks to be the pattern to monitor moving forward fitting in with the MJO going through phases 5/6/7 with the higher pressure over UK gradually moving west allowing cooler / colder shots from the NW / N, my main interest lies with phase 7 which suggests the best chance for higher pressure near / over Greenland and possible E / NE erly -
