  1. Heavy snow blankets Saudi Arabian NW province of Tabuk, Lebanon and Syria WATCHERS.NEWS Residents of the Saudi Arabian northwestern province of Tabuk took to social media to share stunning scenes of heavy snow... 30 dead, houses cave in as snow, rain set new record WWW.THENEWS.COM.PK 30 people have been reported killed, much of the damage struck southwestern Balochistan province
  2. All you have to do is look back at my posts from the snow and ice threads from late autumn and the start of winter (and some throughout winter so far) of Scandinavia and they have had record breaking snowfalls and cold temperatures so certainly hasn't been an all mild story though we seen that record breaking warmth in Norway a few weeks ago (though the same areas the next day had about a foot of snow). I dont think this winter will be anywhere near the "worst ever" still time to get at least some snow out of it and I suppose it is all about personal preference, from a snowy POV it has been as poor as it could be (again still some time for this to change). Those looking for drier weather look like getting their wish with the higher pressure building in then it is a question if that can retrogress and allow something colder from the NW / N. No doubt it wont be long before some will be praising the seasonal models, and yes admittedly they have so far got the overall pattern correct, if they had been showing conditions favourable for a colder than average winter (ie northern blocking) would those same people really be championing it to the same degree? I have my doubts... it doesn't take a genius to say it will be on the milder side of average by the end of a UK winter.
  3. Some hail and gustier winds now too. Lights flickering the worst they have done all night.
  4. Just found this with some info on the site that recorded the record December temperature Record Dec temperature and snow in Scotland | R-bloggers WWW.R-BLOGGERS.COM Northern Scotland broken GB December temperature records in 2019, how has time affected snow cover? Also the camels in the Saudi desert are getting snow before us
  5. Those are some intense looking snow streamers being shown for the Great Glen, cant recall seeing examples of a streamer in that area before?
  6. Looks like the Great Glen will be the sweet spot @West Highland Storm get yer sledge oot! Foot + of snow in best spots, looks like my punt for Dalwhinnie wont be a bad bet either Possibility of some thunder for the western isles too.
  7. Dinny start gettin cheeky or al get @Big Innes Madori on yeh
  8. I eluded to that a few nights ago Steve, though given the way this winter has gone I think we would take either form of blocking Certainly signs that the main section of tpv will be going toward the Siberian / Scandinavian side.
  9. See my latest post in the model tweets thread from Simon Lee suggesting that the ECM also going towards the scandi blocking situation.... Could our patience finally get rewarded? Long way to go but fingers crossed it is the real deal this time
  10. Certainly hasn't been as bad as it could have been as storms have been more in a line rather than discrete supercells. Sadly a fatal tornado in Pickens county Alabama earlier today though.
  11. We need a beast from the east redux to fully test the snow forecasting capabilities of the short range models
  12. wrf and some of the other short range models not really interested, ATM I would say somewhere like Cairngorms SW to Dalwhinnie look best. Euro 4 has really been overestimating any snowfall opportunities this winter IMO.
