  1. I can't say I remember what September 2010 was like, but jeez I hope your right! When in 2010 would you say it was suggested we were in for a good time?
  2. A wet Xmas day would be miserable I think, unless it was very heavy and windy, dark and stormy. A drizzly affair would be dreadful!
  3. I think for me the run up is more important than the aftermath, just feels nicer knowing that the Xmas break is coming when things are cold crisp and hopefully snowy.
  4. Oh I sure hope your right, last year seems to be universally and rightly viewed as a terrible winter (but not the good type of terrible Lol)
  5. I'm with you there, a cold crisp and frosty run up is amazing, would happily have that kind of weather every day
  6. Just out of curiosity, how many are that bothered with a white Christmas, or would actually prefer just a white festive period? For me if the run up to Christmas is properly wintery I find that more satisfying than a white Christmas - which is still great of course
  7. There's nothing worse than snow all around but missing your area totally. In central/Strathclyde we have had some great snow events in recent times, but totally missed others with neighbours just a few miles away getting pasted
  8. I'll always remember 09-10 fondly. On the night the snow started heavily I saw he snow start and decided to head quickly in the car to Tesco (other supermarkets are available), which is about 4 miles away. By the time I had reached 3 miles the roads were thick with snow, I got stuck on a hill and needed a push. The last mile was treacherous, I even skidded into a barrier on a quiet and deserted road. Despite it all and a really dodgy journey home, it was one of the best weather events for me ever. So sudden and unexpected, no grit on roads as noone imagened it to hit so hard. Great night to be out, feeling the falling snow is one of the best feelings. I'll have more like that please!
  9. Agreed, its a nice start presently, nice to see those summer days starting to fade. We've been forecast a slight return of sun and higher temps, but thankfully they haven't arrived yet!
  10. Good to see these threads again! Like many 09/10 would be wonderful, just not another like last year! I'm encouraged that already we're seeing nice cold days and clear skies, its a start! Just not a mild winter!
  11. Nice to see a winter thread doing well! Hopefully just those who like looking further ahead who will comment here, lots of threads still available for those who don't :-) What are people hoping for and expecting for the end of Autumn? Its been encouraging to feel a nice chill in the air so soon, hoping it continues and build to some frost and chilly clear nights. Obviously far too early for forecasting with any kind of confidence, so any hopes and wishes or comparisons welcome :-)
  12. Nice to see a winter based thread not being locked and people being able to enjoy the weather on the run up to the time they enjoy the most. I'd agree, if you don't like these kind of threads its much simpler to avoid them than it is to moan about it. Here's Hoping for more winter threads! I too have been counting down since mid year, the summer months do nothing for me at all. Really hoping we see some proper winter weather, even some typical autumn weather is a good start. After being spoiled with proper wintery weather in recent history the last couple of years has really been a let down!
  13. I don't see why because winter is obviously too far away for a sensible accurate guess of the conditions, that it still can't be discussed by people who wish to? Those who do know perfectly well the accuracy is terrible, but its not an exact science anyways. Its so embarrassing when some get so worked up about it, it really is childish.
  14. Ahh don't mention winter! The whole thread will be closed, the site banished then everyone arrested! Over reaction? So I closing every thread that dares address it as a topic lol
  15. Now before peoole start getting red in the face at the thought of the season which follows autumn (not mentioning it in case the alarms start ringing), I think its totally reasonable to start discussing it should they wish to. If the thought of the season in question upsets anyone who thinks its too early, feel free to not be compelled to mention it here, there's plenty of room for all. I understand others views who prefer to stick to shorter range, so fill yer boots and live and let live. Let's hear what folks think :-)
  16. Absolutely, even the people who start the threads know its far too early. And considering just how random even short term forecasts are - I don't really see the problem. But when mods shut down the thread just because they think its too early - that's a bit heavy handed. Let people talk about what they want, and as u say if u don't want to - then just don't go into that thread with the sole purpose of moaning!
  17. Good to see a Autumn thread. Dismayed to see the treatment for a thread for the season which follows which was closed. I won't say the word as some do seem to come out in allergic reactions and start gibbering. The audacity. Never do understand the reaction, if you don't like it, then don't post in it. Anyways, the sooner we get into Autumn the better, hopefully we'll see this torturous heat start to fade to cool, fog and eventually some frost. Too warm weather in autumn is dreadful!
  18. heavy snow lying in cumbernauld, grounds very wet, but its gettin there! is this likely to be prolonged?
  19. "a potentially paralysing winter" - haha - that just about covers it - potentially covers just about everything!
  20. it seems like only a couple of weeks ago the majority here were leaning quite heavily to quite an eventful end to autumn and winter. now typically things have shifted. isn't it as likely things may shift, even a few more times before anyone's in a position to know? or even take an educated stab?
  21. last year was a terrible winter for me in central, loads of lovely snow but hardly any for central. with the previous winters with considerable snow it's depressing when things dont go that way. for this year I'd love another large long lasting amount of cold and snow, but I feel it's going to be a drab mild early start to winter. based on no evidence other than my gut feeling. really hope I'm wrong!
  22. i never can understand why people get so worked as someone shows a long range forecast. noones asking anyone to bet their houses on it, and everyone agrees they are pretty much guesswork, but jeez if its certainty that your after then your pretty much in the wrong place. lighten up folks, if you dont like seeing people looking ahead to far, then its really easy to ignore - then you wont get so worked up about it
  23. lol why are people complaining that during august things are starting to cool down? we're lucky to have seen the sun (if you like lots of sun) and not endless rain in the summer months.
