  1. Some stations in the center west area are even recording a -12c ( like Poitiers for exemple) or more anomaly for the first decade. Did not check final values but we should be around -9c anomaly for Paris ( 1971-2000) A nice blue map for much of Europe : Only Ireland sees some pink although some places certainly have much lower negative figures :
  2. But the question is how do you rate a winter? by the mean temps? or snow or lack of it ?a cold wave?several cold spells? What i mean is, sorry but speaking about France , Up to this cold wave this winter was not good ( even bad in many places ) for winterlovers. The night from 31st december 2011 to 2012 was the mildest one recorded here in Paris with a nice 12.3c in middle of night!!!!?????????????? But then this cold wave was a real good one for us not seen since mid eighties ( or 1997 ) , especially the cold ( some locations have had breaking low temps) with a good 1/3 to 2/3 having one or 2 snow events varying in its intensity. People will always associate this winter with this cold spell and remmember winter 2012 because of it .Winter is not finished yet but don't think we will get another cold wave ( for the Meteorological winter). Should we still say winter 2012 was not good because it lasted 12 days? would you have been happy to have but only an intense cold period for 12 days and that is it? For my part , i am satisfied with it , i usually take what comes!!!
  3. Some impressive mins in the Normandy area this morning and just near the sea.Probably locally some records , i have to check.Note that just crossing the Channel and you may have a 7c difference. Last map of this kind as tonight should be much milder ( should not go below -2c in my area!!!!!!!) Winter here really is this First decade of February!!!!Nothing before that To all : About the weather never dispair , always something good is going to come.,
  4. Last cold night of cold wave for me and funny , the coldest i have recorded just under -10c at -10.1c Météo France station just near my location -9.2c Average night temp up to the 11th ( excluding this night) -7.7c (with no snow)!!!!
  5. funny most weather lovers and of snow from Greater Paris area think the same of our region.Look at the Sat pic of the snow fall of the 5th Feb , it has just stopped at the Gate of Paris , only hitting the western suburbs ( as usual!!!!!!!!!) So to reassure you , you are not alone :
  6. may explain the cold temps lucky you!!got just ice here on lakes!!!!! -
  7. you still got snow lying anywhere in that area? Same temp here with no snow just got -6.3c at 2330 falling really faster than yesterday as i reached -6c at 0230 am local time!!!! .Would i get a good -10c for last cold night of our cold wave???
  8. Yes the midlands cutting UK in half and yes Ireland seems really the warmest of al even more so than Spainl!!!
  9. For the Météo-France station nearest to my place (Orly Airport) here is what i got up to the 10th included : a mean max of -1.2c and a mean low of -7.6c.( For 10 nights it is not bad!!!) Adding -8c of this morning , it brings a tiny bit the average down up to the 11th!!!!!!! Long long long time i did not have theses kind of temps for a whole decade .I was young then!!!!!probably 1985 Although the only thing we missed during this cold wave is a good snow event ( we had twice but just 1cm really) and the deep temps that go with it during a clear night. You can easily spot stations during hole event which had snow on ground , they had really good lows up to -15c or more locally. Today last day around -1c to-2c for max here.
  10. Here are 3 records ( but there are a few more) i found on the Météo-France site : Orléans ( about 75 miles South of Paris with snow on the ground) on the 7th february morning : -16.3c ( old record 15.4c on the 23rd February 1963) Biarritz in the extreme South West : -7.9c record for February since 1956 on the 8th Another one on the 9th : Toulouse in the Southwest -12.5c These 3 are quite impressive!! Météo-France says worse cold spell since 1985 .They have not yet issued out mean temps on their panel up to the 10th but February 1986 is certainly beaten up to now.Would make it second coldest first decade ever after February 1956 ( Which was the coldest month for the 20th century recorded in France with a National anomaly of -9.5c ).
  11. Still another last night tonight and temps like theses taken this morning will be over a nice -8.5c for me , : Some nice -7c on the South east coast of UK!!!
  12. The 0700 hours utc map for minimums temps is nice for France and the great ( yes great South east England) : to get this 0700 utc hours map :http://www.infoclimat.fr/cartes-des-stations-meteo-temps-reel.html?area=iles_britanniques&param=temperature#nice-spac-img and select the hour
  13. Here is a nice Pic of the River Allier in Vichy. If only the River Seine had a tiny bit of ice but it is too late.Temp of the Seine in Paris today 1.8c and only 2nights left for cold temps , including tonight , it is thus too late to see anything in Paris.Water should be under 1c to see anything. It was close for us!!!!!!!
  14. here you go a good site , made by professionals : http://www.meteo-paris.com/ile-de-france/previsions.php
  15. Here are 2 nice pics i got from a friend in Saumur of the river Loire (River Loire crosses central France and one hard hit by cold especially nights temps : The max for ice would certainly be on sunday morning with the last night with widespread -10c for much of the Loire run Would so much go there and see it. The Seine river is not far off seeing small bits of ice but we just need 3 or 4 nights with-6c to -10c and -2c days. we are not really far . Temp of the River Seine taken in Paris is 2c and just below 1c apparently is ok to see small bits of ice. Will be a bit hard to see it in Paris before sunday morning ( Sat to Sun being the last very cold night) Here it is for the temp of the river Seine taken in Paris : http://www.siaap.fr/tableau-de-bord
  16. Although it is a rather mild night now lowest temps nearing -12c a good 3/4 of France just below -3cand more much warmer than previous nights.Just nearing -2.5c for my part which is the warmest since start of cold wave for this time at 2300!!!! Soon i may enjoy a night out on my balcony!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Last night in Many Parts of France and especially the South west , it was simply the coldest night of the cold wave.Abit on the mild side for the Northeast though if i may use this.some remarkable temps :Bergerac at -16.5c coldest since opening of station in 1988 but certainly way much longer. In Auch -13.5c record since at least 1985 ( opening of station) It is also to note that France broke its all time record for use of electricity at around 700 pm at 101 700 megawatts!!
  19. Cloudy morning after a snowy front during the night which left about a very small cm of snow in places. Turned clearer at around midday , and almost clear bleu sky just before sunset. Now all clear. Min : -7.5c at 0800 hours. It is to note that -7c was reached at 2000 hours yesterday so it makes 12 hours under -7C . Max : -1.9c at 1500 hours ( for a couple of mins!!) Pressure is 1036 hPa Temp now : -5c falling much slower than yesterday but surely. Not much snow left despite the low max
  20. TonyH i also had the same question like the front of yesterday night we had over Paris???.
  21. Sorry following my post , the main feature of this morning is the extended cold up to the South west and South east for night temps.Otherwise in the usual colder areas, min temps tend to be on the warmer side. You can also see the milder area in the center including Paris , where we had a bit of snow and so clouds which limited the temps to fall , Around -6c for central Paris to -8c -10 c in suburbs this morning ( locally -11c) Friday should see the possible first day over freezing temp locally in the suburbs!!!!!! but not certain.
  22. Here are a list of some localities with minimal temps of this morning 8th February.
