  1. Already 85 km ph in Plymouth : http://www.infoclimat.fr/ and nearing 100 km at tip of Brittany in Ouessant ( respectively 53 and 60 miles)
  2. Not sure but think it comes from french boué ( it looks like old french spelling)
  3. Evening to all, Still got quite some leaves on the 3 plane trees in front of my flat. Here in Paris, météo-France annouces winds gusting up to 45 or 55 miles in the early hours of tuesday .60 miles near channel coast but they are northeners!!!!that is for us in Paris. The leaves will probably be off. Nothing yet for Friday , just high possibility of strong winds has been annouced. All with a relatively mild temp.
  4. Hello to all, A nice and first winter feeling this morning near Orly airport ( 8 to 10 miles south of Paris) -2c is the minimum ( 6 am ) with some good frosts in surrounding wooded areas , makes it quite white on the grass . And to top it some thick fog lifting now.temperature now rising fairly good. 1016 hPa and falling . Certainly is the only frost and below 0c before a few days!! I am Certainly pleased to see this first real winter landscape here( you do have to content of what you get!!!). PS no more fog now.
  5. Could anyone give me the highest gust recorded in London area and when? can't find it .Was wondering if it reached more than 1999 in Paris?
  6. True i also do like extremes in weather but i always keep in mind that weather kills ( some parts of the world are worst than others) as long as you keep that in mind. In my entire life there were 2 events where i was really aware that causalties were unfortunately unavoidable : was in 1999 26th december hurricane storm in Paris ( 100 plus miles whriling wind) started around 4 am woke me up , wanted to open shutters and window but first went upstairs to see how it was and when i saw first tree down ,then second, third....really wished no one was out and about And the heat wave of 2003 as young( ok almost young!!!in my 30's) and healthy as i was i could not bear it and started to wonder about poor old people in small aparts high up in buildings . All people with weather extremes interests should need to keep in mind that weather can kill, even if you are caught in a thunderstorm outside.( don't remember when but a couple of years back i was happy when a thunderstorm hit Paris but 2 people were dead as they walk out of a park and were touching an iron gate when lightning stroke) but then yes i was exited to see this thunderstorn. As long as we are aware of the suffering that may occur. With nature danger is never too far away for your onwn life. But will not stop chatting about or trying to understand weather and about my own experience about it. Good weekend to all and all be safe for next week . Ps could we have a little breeze too to make the rest of leaves fall on the trees near my flat?
  7. Evening to all and thank you for all your posts , and what about us across the channel??????????????, here in Paris just grey skies all day and no wind till about 7 pm where it started a bit suddenly up to now but nothing reallly: max gust about 55to 60 kms max ( 35 miles), so nothing ( not miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)and still quite mild for a december night after midnight top temp 11c8 at 21H00!!!!!!!!!!! no rain. So still got leaves on the trees in front of my flat!!! And hope no one has any damages.Nice quiet evening to all.
  8. I remember well august 1997 as it was really the first time i realized i could bear the cold easier than the heat and in Paris we did hit 30c 14 days in a row Don't think we did 110f.I have now only the infos on Orly airport 8 to 10 miles south of Paris and top temp was only 34c on the 24th At Orly 30c were passed 16 times and 3 days over 29c Would always remember august 1997 as the first time really realized could not bear the heat and also for the thunderstorms. I think it was early in the month i remember a sudden and very violent thunderstorm , recall it perfectly as my sister was in hospital and was on my way there. ps sis is ok now and i still can' t bear theses kind of heatwaves!!!!!but like them too!!!!!crazy me!!!!
  9. evening all, Here in Paris and my suburbs ( Orly airport station) temperature did not go below 11c from saturday 3pm to today sunday 9 pm with rain and rain ( well we need that !!!!!!!) and sometimes quite windy. top temp today 12.7c clounds in the morning with some clear spells mid afternoon but no sunshine just getting clearer and very light rain now and then all day At around 6 pm the wind got stronger and some heavy rain at about 9 pm . Now the sky is getting clear with some stars shining and temp falling Today was last day of very warm temp. Cooler temps forecasted but just average or a touch above. Now : 1001 mbar rising slowly RH : 87% temp: just above 8c
  10. when you see the noaa anomaly map you really get that Europe was warm in november especially Scandi and dry as i never saw that much red for lack of rain. In some places in south west France november is with a plus 4C anomaly or over!!
  11. Would it be Paris in France? sorry Whitehorse ? On a site comparable to netweather, there is a french guy living there doing a thread with daily reports and so i did learn a bit about Whitehorse : http://forums.infoclimat.fr/topic/47945-suivi-du-temps-a-whitehorse-yukon-canada/page__pid__1685400__st__1640#entry1685400 If i got that right you promise me that if you got snow this winter you send some in Paris and if you got a good storm too ok?
  12. Helo to all, Here in France and according to Météo France ( equivalent of metoffice) and for its panel stations, we are at 3.1c of anomaly up to the 24th included. In some stations it will be the warmest November ever but nationaly November 1994 ended at 3.3c of anomaly and it is certainly not possible to reach that. But surely locally you may have places finishing very high in uk? Here in France in the south west and west some stations may finish with warmest November ever but not nationaly would certainly be second warmest November
  13. Oh funny here in Paris it is the other way around , it was forecasted grey skies on tv yesterday, but we had a good deal of sunshine , apparently the clouds were staying west of the region!!Also the max temperature was supposed to be 2 or 3c lower than yesterday but managed a good 13.6c for Orly airport!!!!!!just down from 14.3c of yesterday!!! Now it is overcast and so the temp is not dropping , 11.5c at 7 pm !!!!! good for an October november day .
  14. For Paris Montsouris 14.9c today for the max ( oldest station opened 1874 located in a park with same name). It isnot situaded in central Paris so less under urban effects. and daily record for a 22nd november is 16.6c Not too far off!!!!
  15. Evening to all, Here in Paris suburbs ( Orly Airport) after a cool start at 2.9c and somewhat misty even foggy ( when still night), the sun quickly appeared in a matter of a few minutes and then a clear sunny day all along. The noticeable thing today is the max temp at 14.2c for Orly and over 15c even very locally over 15.5c in central Paris!!!!!, really warm , for lunch sitting on a sunny bench it was reallly nice !!!!!for the last few days it is the same quite nice daytime temps but low nights ones. But starting tomorrow grey skies forecasted with temps 2 or 3c degrees lower. Pressure at 1021 hPA Also today a fairly poor air quality as absolutely no wind at all. You really only feel the warm during the day as for the last nights the temp drops quite fast and now i have 6.5c at 7 40 pm
  16. Got someone who counted the days with temps at 20c or above in Strasbourg ,northeastern France, since 1st january and for 2011 it is a record breaking year for 20c or more days at 169 previous one was 2009 at 159 then 2003 at 157 and 1947 at 146 The lowest is 1972 at 82 days and average ( norm 1981 2010) is 124 days
  17. Hello to all, a slpendid day in Paris with blue sky , morning was cold with -1c locally in suburbs and even near Paris.A good 13.7c for my area and nearing 14.5c in Paris . bit warmer than yesterday. So now only daytime temps are out of norm.About 4c higher than normal same thing tomorrow. We may get a bit of clouds though but same temps near freeze in morning and 13 to 14 c in the afternoon .
  18. First week of august 4th to 16th , was not bad at all temperature wise ( 31c on the 6th if i remember ) but often cloudy but nice to enjoy Biarritz , personnaly i like the place.Missed the 38.6c of the 21st august!!!!
  19. Biarritz in the extreme south west is really having its historic month 2 daily record broken and highest mean averageup to the 15th ever plus with a par with november 1988 for 10 days with top temp at 20c or over , the lastest day is today at 20.9c !!!!! I was there in august, maybe i should have gone in november!!!
  20. In Toulouse ( south west France) on a year to year ( not sure of the english word ) 19th november 2010 to 19th november 2011 ( so including the cold december ) they are at 1.68c of anomaly in the plus.for a yearly jan to dec if dec goes on mild in the south west 2011 will be a year in the books for the warm temps. And today in Paris been a very sunny day starting cold 2c in the far suburbs and about 5c in central Paris. top temsp were nearing 13c almost every where.Got a reading of 12.7c .Should only be 9c for average of 19th november.
  21. Concerning snow and traffic on the 8th of december 2010 in the Ile de France region which is the whole of Paris plus suburbs , it was a nightmare if you were driving a car.My sister did about 2 miles in 5 hours. My Father did 1 mile in same time 5 hour!!!!!! really a nightmare. But i don't have a car and i was lucky as on this day i was looking after my niece and nephew ( i had a day off) and they are at the very opposite of where i live ( usually 1 hour and 30 mins )take 2 suburbian lines train with a tube ride in betweem. And this took me the same time as usual and during rush hour!!! I was lucky as some delays were on the trains due to the fact that train drivers were blocked in traffic coming to work!!!!!!!!so trains are best during a snow traffic nightmare When back home i immediately took a walk in the snow and was going much faster than all the cars!!!!! sorry for this out of subject post ( answering posts ups)
  22. well in Paris today remimded us that we were well in mid november !!!!!with only 5c for the highest with grey skies all day!!!scarfs were out on ( some)people so were gloves!!!!!did not see them for a long time !!!!!nice to see that again. Nationnaly from the first to the 15th november it is the mildest 15 days ever in november recorded. Some infos in french on méteo France site : http://france.meteof...cument_id=26061 Although today did make the average drop , but tomorrow we are on for mild temps and grey skies again for some days, but not on the scale seen earlier this month ( About 3c 4c max above in Paris) This long mild spell of weather comes with no rain and in some areas in France it is becoming really worrying , especially if this coming winter goes on dry ,then ,it will be catastrophic in places.Only summer brought decent rain with below average temps thanks to that!!!!
  23. Hello to all Been a sunny day in Paris exept in morning ( well just first half hour of daytime was partly cloudy) Nice under the midday sunshine outside as no wind . 12.6c for top temp in Orly Airport not far from home ( but don't get the planes where i live!!) for an average of around 9.5c for this mid-november period It has been 2c higher in central Paris. Tonight clear skies and temp really much lower than previous nights at 4c at 11 pm local time nice to feel a bit of cold!!!!!! We could get below zero locally would bet on a 0.8c to 1c for my location Pressure: 1019mbar falling and RH: 93% for now good night to all.
