Happy New Year All. I'm please to say we have had our first frost of 2016 here Been lurking in the MOD thread for the last few weeks boy they do get hyped up over each model run! Hope we do get something wintery here in the weeks to come its been tooo long since we've had a proper pasting!!!

Sleety rain with the odd wet snow flake here but still good for November right back to bed me thinks.

Temp has gone back up here! went down to 2.9C after sleet shower now back up to 5C! The stuff coming out of Wales looks good, hoping it keeps the intensity as it heads into our region!

Ah it's good to be back for another winter season! Been hiding in the mod output thread for the last few weeks, looks like this winter will be interesting to say the least. Just to answer the question from last night sorry it's not weather related mods Yes we think the activity comes from the coalfields which have been extensively mined in the area. Quite a few earthquakes for the UK in the last few days which is great being a geologist. It is very unlikely that the event near Rutland is connected to the Winchester one. The aftershocks mentioned in the paper would be very localised, generally smaller than the main quake and mostly undetectable to us. Anyway back to my second favourite topic, meteorology and most of all SNOW!!! Here's hoping we all get to see something over the next week. Nothing here yet apart from a light sleet shower at about 4pm. Current temp 3.1 DP -1.0 Good luck all

Could very well be! Unfortunately I don't know enough about it but would make sense. Temps are finally dropping has been at about 2.5 for hours and now fallen to 1.6 with a DP -1.
