A decent storm here, not as severe as further east but it was good enough. There's still time for more too.
-
Something developing to the East of me around the Hope Valley, visibility has reduced and hints of Ac Cas rising rapidly into a ever darkening sky. Unfortunately going to miss where I am but Sheffield should see some fun and games if developments keep up.
I know this must be annoying now but I have to go out soon, am I going to see anything?
-
How long until this affects me?
-
Looks like I'm in a good spot!
-
Yay!...just had the 1st intra cloud lightning bolt of the day and loud growl of thunder...
Nice! Would you say this is heading my way, providing it doesn't fizzle out?
-
A Chesterfield sized gap inbetween both cells?
-
Wow. I need a second opinion (I don't trust my own), but is this thing going to pass over my area, or miss narrowly? My brother's hiking in the Peak District right now, he'll be in for a show.
-
Hopefully as this builds it will eventually hit me. Even if it doesn't, the cell to the south east of this may have more of a chance.
-
It was FIFA 12 and F1 2011 that kept me up, and 2 cans of Relentless! I thought about not going to bed but I need some rest so that I'm on the ball later, especially if I need to head out and chase.
I'm nocturnal anyway so it feels pretty normal.
-
Okay, so I'm now excited. I might as well stay up now, I planned on going to bed but Battlefield 3 and an interest in how things developed overnight kept me up.
-
I finished my last exam on Monday; what better way is there to celebrate than some nasty storms?
Well, I'm sure for 'normal' people there are better ways, but for me, and others on this website...
-
The sun has also broken through here, and it's currently 22.2°C. In a sunny spell earlier we reached 23.3°C, and the dew point is currently 17.8°C; the highest it's been all day.
-
I promised myself I'd never get this excited again...
-
I don't mind the rain. At least it offers something to look at, and personally I find it quite relaxing.
If it's just cloudy and cool though, I find it to be quite tedious. I don't go outside a lot anyway, but it just makes everything look exceedingly depressing. At least sun and warmth makes things look nice, despite that kind of weather triggering my hayfever.
-
I still haven't heard thunder yet this year.
-
I am another of those who has had nothing over this spell, I could probably count the number of showers I've had this month on one hand (the sad thing is, this isn't even an exaggeration). There's not been a real storm here for around two years.
The fact it's only April doesn't matter, I can already see this being an 'everywhere but here year'. I am aware of the lack of storms in other select areas, but these are scarce.
-
That was a rather disappointing convective spell. No thunder, and very small amounts of hail. We had two showers in total, more than others I know, but the fact that all the thundery showers missed by five miles or so or fizzled out before they got here made it more disappointing.
-
It's just heavy rain here with the odd gust, at least something has happened though.
-
It's quite dark here now, with moderate rain falling.
-
Explosive convection over us locally half an hour ago, I counted up to (but likely over) 7 rumbles. Moderate rainfall at the current time with small hail pelletts. The same explosive system 'stalled' over Kinder Scout for now.
Is all of this heading in my direction?
-
constant rumbles and lightining, best storm this year.
thunder echos around the valley.
Every time I see one of your posts it's about some exciting weather occurring, whereas ten miles to the east where I live it's just dull. How has Matlock become the weather capital of the world?
-
There's a Chesterfield shaped hole in the stuff from the north west.
Typical.
-
A nice gap for Chesterfield now in the radar. Is this going to be another 2011?
-
All convective spells are poor in my area. I think being next to a mountain range has something to do with it, need to move to the flatlands of Lincolnshire or something!
I can second this. 2011 was ridiculously frustrating at times, everything was either five miles away, or fizzled out just as it got here. The most frustrating moment weather-wise last year must have been related to a cell in late April, that continually back-built until it just stopped at my doorstep.

Looks like the cell in Staffordshire is heading straight for me.
