  1.  Weather-history that is an incredible stat, and it proves what many of us on here have already been saying. It has been a dire 12 months for rainfall. Unfortunately, its also backed up by the other wetter winters records you've given us.

What is concerning is that this is exactly what we've been told could be one of the outcomes through gradual climate change. Warmer air can hold more water, and that water is more likely to fall in those areas that see maritime air massess. We're right in the firing line.

It affects all of us, and more especially those that work outdoors. From my own perspective it is causing problems. My business installs building foundations, and wet ground conditions throughout a job can add 20% to the time it takes to complete. Add to that the miserable working conditions and you get an unhappy workforce and terrible productivity. Since last July its been grim working in the ground, and there doesn't seem to have been many 30 days periods with less than 200mm of rain.

It might be something we all have to adapt to, but its just another thing that adds to costs in a world where we're all already suffering inflated prices.

  2. Apologies for the moan on Valentines Day but as I sit here typing this, the rain is yet again drumming away on the front room window. I don't know about anyone else, but I've had enough of what seems to be months of rain. It's not just a winter thing, it just doesn't seem to have stopped since late summer (bits of an often warm September excluded). The incessant grey and damp is just getting depressing. I don't keep records, but the number of wet days over the past 6 months must be getting on for a record. Is it too much to get a dry week or 2 with a winter high and blue skies? Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much sign of a change in the short term. April and May often bring some of the best conditions and they can't come soon enough.

  3. Snow here still but its all dependant on the heavier stuff. Lighter bands bring a rise in temp and dp. Need something a little greener on the radar to get those temps down again.

Snow is struggling to settle here at 200m on anything other than cars and grass. On the photo looking north over the village, there's a definite line at about 250m, where snow is settling.

Yes same here as of a few mins ago. Huge flakes! Still have most of the snow on the ground from this morning too.

I spoke a little soon. Instead of glancing through the window at the lamppost, I got off my bum and put the bin out. It has been heavy enough to cover the road and cars again. It'll be treacherous in the morning. Not a chance they'll get up here to empty that bin 🤦‍♂️. Anyone south and east of here with decent height may well get a bit more if it stays heavy enough. It's not 'warmed up' here all day, 0.7c at the moment.

Can’t imagine piling and rebar work being much fun in a hole at this time of year with this rain

Since July it's been pretty horrendous for much of the time. The last 6 weeks or so has been as bad as anything in the last 10 years. Everywhere is saturated. Every excavation fills with water. Swamps and concrete are not a good mix.

Dec rain now 284.8 mm. Year 1930.8 mm.  Might get 4th place if we beat 1936.1 mm.

    Some weak sunshine currently !

The Met have very generously handed out a yellow waring for rain from 6pm today, that covers a central slice of the region. It looks like you'll get the 6mm and it looks like we'll get plenty more here to add to the year's wettest month. Wrap up this evening if you're out locally.

  7. The rain train just keeps on coming. Yesterday's rain took us over 1600mm for the year. That's 300 to 400mm above an average year. We're also sat on just over 230mm for December, and if the rest of the month pans out as forecast, then that'll get above 250mm and be the wettest month of the year. With its constant low light and the inability for surfaces to dry out, December is a poor month to have so much rain. 28 days in and only 3 dry days. Grim.

At first I thought it was heading NE but your right it does seem to be east now so we’ll soon find out, unless it dies out of course.

the lighter stuff to the southwest is knocking on the door here now so I suppose it’ll give a good idea but it’s making painfully slow progress and no doubt has already been taken over by the milder uppers.

It seems to be getting heavier the further inland it creeps. Looks like you might be in the sweet spot if it does snow.

  9. Anyone any thoughts on this finger of heavier stuff coming in south of Southport. It seems to be heading east towards an area between the M65 and M62. Its showing as fairly heavy and if it stays that way is it possibly going to fall as snow as it comes over higher ground. Out in Manchester right now so planning the journey home, as it gets a little difficult if more snow falls. Thanks.
