Utterly incredibly awful amount of rain in July.

Picked up 32.8 mm this morn -- so that's 345.4 mm for July

Far above the average of 110.3 mm

This July's total beaten only by 393.4 mm for Oct 2000 and 399.1 mm for Dec 2015.

Or looking at it another way -- this is the 3rd wettest month in the total of 647 months measured here since we started daily recording.

Previous max for July was 266.0 mm in 2020.   No months April- Aug have been above 266.0 mm until this July.

And it's still raining./ drizzling.  Vegetation looking bedraggled and autumnal.

July has been a shockingly poor month. We got to 256mm for the month here. When you consider that the average annual total locally is 1200mm, that means that over 20% of the rain we expect for the year, fell in the peak summer month of July. When you add in low daytime temps and low sunshine amounts, it has to be one of the worst. Another grim day today. On what surely should be expected to be one of warmer days of the year, we've managed to get to a toasty 13.8c. A temperature not out of place in March or November.

Think they are Victoria plums? Yes they’re early this year… apples and pears are early this year too… not fully ripened yet but should be ready in the next few weeks… think decent dry sunny weather in May & June May have helped…

    I’m on 240mm for the month… very wet July…

It seems that it's been equally horrendous up here too. Just registered 240mm here with 23 days on which rain has fallen. Looking at what's to come for the rest of the day, that total could exceed 250mm. Many places must be at 250 or 300% of the normal July rainfall. Extraordinarily wet, cool and cloudy for the entire month. Things can only get better.

Talking to yourself is the first sign of madness 😁 but yes in all seriousness it's been ruddy awful today. Thankfully though it shouldn't be as bad through most of this week but by no means dry. Not sure exactly how much has fell today here as I've not got a rain gauge nor a netweather radar subscription at the moment to see rainfall accumulation but surely it's in excess of 20mm. I think your patch can be definitely wetter than here. Rochdale area usually the wettest town in Gtr Manchester. Probably snowiest too.

Yeah this NE Greater Manchester stretch from north of Rochdale through Littleborough, into Saddleworth and as far as Mossley probably are the wettest areas. Although we do pretty well for snow, I reckon areas of Oldham at similar altitude do better.

Grim. Again. Yesterday was the wettest day of the year here with a touch over 34mm. Today could potentially go even higher as the first 12 hours have produced just short of 30mm. Cool too as we've struggled to 16c. Horrendous for a mid summer weekend.

Yeah, today's rain has now ousted yesterday's 2023 record for daily rainfall. 35mm and counting. I can't remember the last time that happened over 2 consecutive days, if its happened at all, but I'm fairly sure it wasn't in the middle of summer. We could get to 80mm over a July weekend. Terrible for those who depend on decent weather in the summer months to make a living.

  5. I hate to moan but what a disappointing day again. For a fleeting moment we got to the dizzy heights of 19c, but it's mostly shower after shower and temps around 15c. Really poor for mid July. This is our 8th day in a row with rain. Some forecast apps show rain at some point everyday until the end of the month. If that happens, then 20+ days in a row in July with rain and pretty poor daytime max temperatures will be a shocker. A complete contrast to the 20+ dry days only a few weeks ago.

We've got to get out of this low pressure stagnation at some point. With a bit of luck it'll be the first week in August and we'll be stuck with glorious weather for 4 weeks 🤞

  6. As poor summer days go, this one looks like it has the potential to be one of the worst. Temps struggling to get past 11 or 12c and possibly up to an inch of rain over 5 hours. It's astonishing how summer has flipped. It seems to happen more an more these days. Weeks of one extreme then a sudden handbrake turn to weeks of the exact opposite.

  7. Grim. All we've had here is constant cloud and constant drizzle. The only excitement being the variety of drizzle, varying from light to heavy and back again. You know you've had a lot when it tots up to the 5mm we've had. Oh, and it's not got above 15c. Pretty poor for the last day of a glorious June. Ugh!!!

No worse than walking the dog in jumpers, waterproofs and through muddy paths in summer. Still don’t understand however people have such a low tolerance of even moderately warm conditions that only for a month or two at most.

I'm assuming this is a wind up. It is impossible to compare dog walking to hard physical work outdoors in 25c or 30c plus. Unless of course you haven't got the first clue about hard physical outdoor work in such temperatures. I say this as someone who employs people who do exactly that. No wonder it's so difficult to agree on what a model chart shows when such a simple concept as working outdoors is difficult to grasp.

Squelchy ground for my morning run around 6am.  Mist over the fields with some sun poking through above.  Big change on the last month!

Been frequent, heavy showers from the SW for the last hour...reverting to type fort these parts, hope the settled weather makes a return soon.

Definitely seem to have got the worst of today's conditions. There's a line of heavy showers from Warrington to Bury/Rochdale that keeps on producing heavy rain every 15 mins or so. 5 or 10 miles either side will wonder what I'm moaning about. Currently 15c and 8mm of rain.

  10. Just got back home following an afternoon out to find that just over 19mm of rain fell from today's downpour. Not that you'd know as most surfaces are now pretty dry. Certainly broke the 3 week drought. No doubt there'll be many places not hit by yesterday's or today's rain that won't see anything for at least another week.

If it is clear out East of you it Sounds like a convergence zone along western edge of Pennines.  Worth a watching brief!

And up pops a shower over Crumpsall. Parklife could get damp. Something a little smaller to my nw. It remains clear towards Littleborough and the Pennines. All kicking off to the west and sw of here.

Suddenly and Unlike yesterday, convection seems to have initiated to E of Manchester on the Pennines.   Can see a number of towers out East.  Maybe Rochdale, Bacup etc will see something as steering flow seems more S->N than the SE->NW I would have expected.

In Rochdale town centre and cloud is building just above and to the SW and W of me. The hills to my east are pretty clear apart from what looks like a bit of smoke from behind Blackstone Edge. Temps just nudged higher than at any point yesterday. 28c currently and it really does feel it. Thankful for ac in the pub.

  13. Incredible jump in temperature today. Not too long ago it'd have taken a few days of building heat to get to 30c. Now it's just 24hrs. No complaints here as it is turning into quite a remarkable spell of weather. Clouds filling in the sky here and it looks as though the regions first showers are brewing over Staffs/Derbyshire border.
