Forcasts were showing the cloud burning back towards the east coast by 1pm today. However we are still well and truely stuck under the thick cloud here keeping it on the chilly side.

Yeah, a very different day today than forecast and what we've been used to. This cloud ain't shifting and the temperature is struggling to get past 14c with a chilly breeze. Unusual in this sort of setup on this side of the Pennines, not to clear any cloud away by late morning at worst. Hopefully this isn't going to be what happens the rest of the week. It's half term after all. It looks glorious only 10 miles west.

  2. According to my (un)reliable weather station we've just broken the 22c mark here. It definitely feels that warm as there's very little, if any, wind today. Unfortunately the blob of cloud from the east is encroaching and our blue sky is rapidly disappearing. Regardless, its another lovely afternoon.

  3. So accustomed have we become to bright sunshine and fair weather clouds for much of this month that today's grey 100% cloud cover feels claustrophobic. It's put a lid on the world here and it seems dark. Quite the contrast to strong sun and blue skies. Looking at the satellite pics it seems a fairly localised affair with both west Lancs and Yorks in the clear.

  4. Everyone has there own ideal weather for just generally enjoying life outside the house but for me this weekend has been perfect. Give me 20c, low humidity and the strong May sunshine (that adds about 15c when sat out in it) over those hot, sultry mid summer days. In this country, 25c and over just saps energy. Fantastic to get out for a walk, a few drinks outside the local pub and the back for a bbq without the need to take any sort of break as its too hot. A good May looks like it could at least continue to the BH weekend 👍.

Cloudy but a lot warmer than previous days. Off to Crewe Alex this afternoon for their last home game of the season, and hoping we don't get any heavy showers to spoil the party on and off the pitch.

I'm at Rochdale today home to Sutton. The last home football league match for what could be a while. Hopefully we can bounce back quickly. The National League is not an easy league to get out of. We could probably do with a couple of well timed heavy showers to calm down some of our idiots who want to cause a bit of bother.

Yes, rain is a tad further south than forecast.  Clinging onto some sun here, it is windy though.

Would have been a big disappointment in winter if it was a front from the SE coming into frigid air.  It is not just in winter precipitation can be mid-forecast, especially coming from less typical directions.

Yeah the last of the sun here now as the cloud fills in and the rain slowly makes its way north into the southern part of the region. Looks a tad wet there and with the  added wind its probably pretty grim. So far, still a better day than expected here but inevitably it will go downhill this afternoon.

  7. Unlike last Friday, fingers crossed some of us could be on the right side of a wrong forecast today for a change. Low cloud has just cleared here to leave blue skies and the rain to the south doesn't seem, at the moment at least, to be nudging as far north as expected. I'd expected a bit of a washout all day so a pleasant surprise to see the sun stay for a bit longer.

Even the regional forecast that was issued at 5am didn't predict this

    Today:

A mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. These potentially slow moving, heavy and carrying the risk of hail and thunder at times. Slightly warmer than Thursday in the sunshine and lighter winds, though feeling cooler in any showers. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

8.1°C and 6.8mm of rain so far

Currently a grim 5.5c and will finish just shy of 11mm of rain if it clears away shortly. A little different to the sun & showers double digit temp forecast. We've all seen worse chicken ups when it comes to forecasts but at this time of year the occasional bit of sunshine makes such a difference. I think that's what makes today worse than what was predicted.

  9. After 2 1/2 poor days there had been a little hope in the forecast that today was to be better. How wrong could they be? Not only are things far further north, but this development of rain over us wasn't even predicted at 9pm last night. Not great for those of us working outdoors trying to plan works 😕

  10. Definitely one of the better winter storms of recent years. Difficult to measure but 10 to 12cm here in the end. Memorable for a 1st 12hrs that didn't put a flake on the ground for more than 5 seconds and a 12hrs that was as blizzard like as I can remember. Beautiful March sun today. Time to look forward to the first 20c of the year. Great to see that, on the whole, the region did pretty well.

  11. These fairly beefy showers running all the way back into N Wales look like they maybe of interest to us. As the low tracks east they seem to be taking a more easterly track. The first batch just hit here with the heaviest snow of the day. Temperature and dew point both dropping.

  12. Altitude is helping locally. Nothing here at 200m but get up at 250m and definitely at 300m there is a covering of snow. Just been over Ashworth Moor and nowt exciting considering the potential. All seems to have have gone much further north. Maybe we'll all get something as the front moves back through.
