We in Portsmouth had a thunderstorm pass over our location at around about 3am and there were lots of very heavy down poors through out the night.

I have some really heavy showers today and between 2 and 3pm there were a couple of rumbles of thunder associated with one of the showers

Had two storms during the night. One around 2am and the other at 4am both woke me up

Oh, with all that excitement of 4 storms today I forgot that I was woke at about 3am by thunder and lightning. So in all a great day

4 Huge storms passed over Portsmouth, shame I was unable to enjoy them because of work. 3 of them followed each other, with about a 15 minuet gap between each dumping loads of rain. They started about 11:30 and finished at 14:30

As Paul has mentioned a Funnel Cloud I will take this opportunity to give you an update on the funnel cloud I had heard about whilst out. After asking Police, Fire, Coastguard and press I can only say that no report was made to any of the normal sources. In conclusion I think considering the weather at the time it was very possible that there was a funnel cloud but as some of you know I do have some experience of funnel clouds and tornados (I was lucky enough to have seen the Gosport, Pagham Harbour and Selsey tornados here in the UK and experienced tornados in the US and Australia). I can say before entering and seeing these people in the underpass I stopped and looked at the cloud structure and didn’t see any rotation and on leaving the underpass noted that there was 4/8 Cu con above head and any area of cloud that could produce rotation was in the approaching storm (that was not producing precipitation at that time) at a distance of about 2 miles away. At 4pm whilst out had a large thunderstorm that lasted for about half an hour with very heavy rain and lots of thunder

My wife and I have just been out for a bike ride and were caught in some down pours but in the base of the clouds we could see IC lightning flashing off there was no CG. Where ever you looked in the sky you could see it flashing off.

This 15:15 this afternoon had a heavy rain band pass overhead with some imbedded thunder

Saw some distant lightning out to sea and was caught in a very heavy burst of rain at around 23:30 whilst out walking Southsea sea front

Thanks Paul I was not looking forward to seeing this weeks tables as all the storms bar one have missed me. Hopefully next week will be better but I am not holding my breath though.

Yes Andy I had a similar morning it started around 3:30 am with some distant rumbles and by 4:30 am the display was overhead moving slowly in land, some great IC and CG and some real deafening thunder.

Yeah I know what you mean mate, these images were taken a few days ago now I believe that the storm has passed Japan now

Yes Paul its still 20º here and as you said humid and very still, the sea has hardly a ripple on it.

Your are doing a mighty fine job Paul and it is appreciated. =D> It has proved to be good fun; my colleagues in work are even asking how I am doing on the overall league (asking if you are still at the top :-o they all think you are fixing the results I don’t believe them though )

It sound as if some had some real fun yesterday, with some very heavy storms. I was on the Isle of Wight and at around 7pm I had my own little storm move in from the English Channel so I am happy.

oh yes have a storm in the distance with regular thunder and its showing on the sferic
