I was enjoying a little play on Google Street View this afternoon, and happened across some beautiful wintery pictures taken in Brecon Beacons National Park. They seem to have been captured during the amazing hoar frosts last year - click on the pictures to be taken to the locations..........

I don't know if Monkspath weather station (http://www.monkspathweather.org.uk/) is regarded as "official" or not, but apparently we peaked at 28.2c a short while ago.

I was thinking of returning to Switzerland next year for a family holiday. Would you say that Zermatt is only really a place for Ski enthusiasts, or does it have a wider appeal in your opinion? Your pictures make it look very tempting as a destination!

That guy has some cojones on him, filming outside in the middle of Hurricane Ike.

Some cloud starting to bubble up to the SW of here (Knowle, near Solihull), but still mostly blue skies.
Currently 24.6 (reached a high of approx 26.0 a couple of hours ago) with a dew point of 16.6

Interesting topic.
There are plenty of UK big cat clips on YouTube, some a lot more convincing than others. This is one of the more impressive ones..........
Whilst this one is downright weird; looks more like a black lion to me?? Whatever it is, it's big & scary!

Very true, although it could get a little embarrassing. The standard of posting in the Model Discussion area can be cringe-worthy at times, beyond the regular respected contributors.

I remember this very well. This and the Feb 91 easterly a few weeks later are certainly the biggest snow events I can recall in my lifetime. It's odd that the winter of 90/91 never seems to be mentioned alongside the "classic winters" such as 46/47 and 62/63, presumably these were two isolated mega-events in an otherwise average season?
We had three large conifers in the front garden, and the snow was so heavy it weighed down their branches and 'unpeeled' them like bananas. In fact the biggest conifer was so badly damaged it never recovered and had to be taken down the following spring.

Fascinating graph, thanks for sharing. I couldn't help but notice the remarkably low showing for 1981 - wasn't that a cold, snowy winter for the UK? I was just 7yo at the time, but distinctly remember some severe winters in the late 70's and especially the early 80's.
