the answer is straight forward, I moved ooop north a few years ago from Wilts and took all the storms with me ! 😉🤣

Man, we used to get some crackers breaking out over Salisbury Plain and the Marlborough Downs, some absolute monsters !

Also, to add, I love it over that way, Salisbury plane, and especially Marlborough downs over Pewsey vale, Knaphill, Walker is Hill, Golden Ball Hill milk Hill area. Such a beautiful part of the world which I regularly visit stay overnight. Some great dark skies over there.

Tired of waiting for autumn to deliver. We will get our turn but it will be in the dying days of the hot season and I wouldn’t be surprised if all we have is a bunch of squally messy convective showers.

    Total joke.

At the same time I’m quite enjoying the hot spells, but hate that we are always robbed of a concluding chapter

Could not have put haveCould not have put that better myself one thing I’ve noticed over the last few years is the distinct lack of a proper stormy Spanish plume. We haven’t had one for years, a proper one delivering electrical lightning in amongst the heat and humidity. I’m not talking about a cold front coming in from the west hits the warm, which often doesn’t really do that much, but more so proper storms flooding up Through France or developing in France and then giving us a brilliant light show. Most hot spells we half an hour just seem to fizzle out without any severe activity at least in my part of the world.

  4. I swear the temperature did not drop below 20 up on top of the hill where I was
I just got back now and normally the coldest part of the night would be around 4 am

But I literally was walking around in a T-shirt. Unbelievable I have been up there in June and July and it is felt better like winter as it’s high up and 98% of the time it’s windy but this felt like I was back in Spain.

Remarkably warm, but I love it so nice to be out without having to have jumpers and layers and a coat on top

There was some rain around which left a lot of dust from Sahara but no storms

  5. I am currently near mere on fairly high up ground after attempting a little timelapse earlier, but it became too cloudy.

During the sunset, I noticed some pitted clouds, which we would all normally get excited about as indicative of convection and potential storms. Also saw one cloud rose quite high cumulonimbus i think it was.

Then I thought I would just have a look at the radar, as you never know, and lo and behold a fair crop of showers down in the channel. Nothing seemed to be forecast, so I wonder if the showers could intensify as they move inland and over the heat of the day.

I have never been up on these hills and encountered it so windless and so warm any time of the year, let alone September and with the days that getting shorter. It’s really humid very Mediterranean like.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a storm or two develop.

Very wet all day today and looks like more light rain for a few hoursyet .

On plus side sweet peas , lavender,  outdoor tomatoes,  second early potatoes are all benefiting from the rain - the strong breeze not so much.

I was thinking similar to you, but in terms of the grass, the outdoor plants as my places on the market at the moment and I was having to water the lawn which I would never normally do. I will just wait until autumn. But as I need to keep it good for viewings, the rain is welcome to a point , although I would like some warm hot weather again soon.

Look on the metadata for the picture - it will tell you exactly when it was!

    You missed off 'pestilence' 😉

    Hi Chapmanslade,

Thanks for your suggestion but I had already done this before posting the question. Unfortunately i couldn’t find the original as i thought it was 2018
according to the photo information when i had checked it said 1st May at 18.54 soo thought i May have screenshot it as the information was only 653KB

if indeed that was the date would  you or Andy Brown be able to find radar images of that memorable small cell.
    thanks if you can

Wasn’t it just! Like all the energy got expanded in one go! Just wish I had seen the lightning!

I know Andy I had exactly the same thought of you after the thunder happened! The lightning bolts must’ve been incredible. Certainly some CG, and probably some good crawlers as well.

I took these earlier today on the A69 in Northumberland. The first picture, the funnel was actually touching the ground with a clear form all the way to the ground. The picture is a couple of mins later when it had dissipated somewhat.
