  1. I can just about remember the 63 winter. Was very small at the time but can remember living in London and being unable to open our front door without what seemed like a mountain of snow falling into the hall. It seemed as if the snow was up to my waist but that's maybe cause I was so small at the time. One other abiding memory I have of that winter was the dead sparrows littering the streets - they literally fell out of the sky. I also remember having painfully cold feet for what seemed like weeks on end as my mum made me wear welly boots. As for 47 - forget it I wasn't even born. I also remember that any water left in the sink overnight froze over, gigantic icicles hanging from the eaves and thick ice on the inside of the windows - sometimes all day
  2. I;ll have a go this month Here's my first entry - Sorrento - Sunset - October 2006
  3. Cracking storms here this pm. Heavy rain, black as night - lightning actually crackled!!!! Thunder cracked - really loud and quite scary. A bolt hit a chimney on top of a solicitors office in the middle of town (Kings Lynn) -debris fell on a car - don't know if anyone was hurt but 5 fire engines, fire cheif, 3 ambulances and a couple of pandas arrived in the space of about 5 minutes.
  4. Recent storm here - incredible lightning - came out of nowhere - torrential rain and almighty cracks of thunder. Lasted about 15 minutes - garden flooded - again ................ Skies look like another on the way
  5. Not sure this can be called a storm but at 4.15 it went very black and clouds were boiling. Massive downdraft chucked all the garden furniture round - trees bending etc. Only lasted about 15 seconds but very scary (gust recorded at 47mph) Temperature dropped from 29 to 20 in the space of 3 minutes. Torrential rain and windy (25mph?) for about 10 minutes - garden totally flooded and about 3" in the road - then lighter rain for about half an hour. Faint rumble of thunder and no lightning. Beautifully fresh for a while but getting warmer now and sun coming out. What a waste of water it's all gone down the drains
  6. Few rumbles of thunder and 15 minutes of rain - no lightning
  7. Send your spare water over here mate!
  8. Candice - isn't the saying 'when one door opens another slams shut in your face'?
  9. Can only sympathise - we have had absolutely no rain here (not even from a passing thunderstorm this week). The garden (which is huge) is dying on its feet! I've given up watering - on a water meter! Trees are beginning to turn gold. Was hoping for at least an hour or two last night but it wasn't to be. As for cutting the grass - what grass??
  10. Here's an offering from me - my very first (probably the last as well if no-one likes it). Guess it's not brilliant but Shugee bullied me - honest!
  11. Very foggy all day with a maximum of 1C at 3.00pm - still 1c now. Fog lifting slightly but very damp.
  12. Daft I know but it looks suspiciously like a walnut!
  13. Oddly enough we've had very little rain - about a half hour of drizzle, and the wind has only gusted to about 25 at the most. Getting very chilly now - down to 9C
  14. Had thunder and lightening for about 10 minutes at 5.00pm. Wind slightly gusty but nothing too bad - about 20mph I suspect. Small hailstones and very black sky - all the street lights and the garden solar lights came on. Thunder very loud - lightening was CC.
  15. http://www.svalbard.com/webcam/ Try this one if you want snow!
  16. Cold - sunny - dry - nw wind at 25mph - 8C. Lovely autumn morning
  17. And yet another one at 2000 hrs. Torrential rain, lightning and thunder for about 5 minutes.
  18. Hey guys and gals eat yer hearts out. Just had a thunderstorm pop up out of nowhere. Thunder very loud for about 10 minutes - a clap every 30 seconds. Lightening, very gusty winds but no rain. Approached suddenly from the West - now back to blue skies but looks like another one on the way.
  19. Yeh this is really weird. Phillipe seemed to be on course towards Ireland for Tuesday and it now seems to have turned round. I saw a comment somewhere on the NOAA site that it's doing its thing near Bermuda - or have I got this completely wrong. If Phillipe isn't coming our way what's the big depression off NW Scotland/Eire at the beginning of next week on the METO fax?
  20. Another beautiful day. Started off a bit gloomy and chilly but temps soared to 23C and sunshine all day. Now rapidly cooling down with slight S breeze.
  21. Yup can confirm - got woken up at 4.00am - thunder, lightening, torrential rain 10 miles from King's Lynn. Very surprised - thought I was dreaming when I heard the thunder - kicked the other half - thought it was him snoring. Don't know where that came from - wasn't forecasted at all
  22. 30.3C - wind from the SSW (very hot wind). Not a cloud in the sky but feeling quite humid.
  23. So on that scale - It is now due to hit land in 6 hours time ... 4pm our time ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
