  1. As their headlines seem to have got more and more sensationalistic (is that a word lol) day by day, the only one now left to them is "Winter to last forever"
  2. That's the 925 winds Matty, not the surface winds. Gusts generally in the region 45-50mph inland, maybe a tad higher on coasts
  3. Not at all Tamara, all local govt planners share their contingency plans.
  4. As I have many contacts in local govt I checked this out with Croydon council. They did have their normal emergency planning for winter meeting this week. This is the meeting all councils tend to have at this time of year to ensure they have contingency plans in place for any adverse winter weather. Nothing sinister about it at all.
  5. Bit early for that isn't it - nothing on the cards for the immediate future
  6. Unbroken sunshine since 11am, not a cloud in the sky and high of 25c
  7. Love that it now scales well on my iPad, no need for expensive apps now Paul
  8. Evapourating before it reaches the ground at the moment #virga
  9. Morning, cloud at 7/8 and it's DRIZZLING! Such faint drizzle you can feel it on your skin but can't see it.

  12. Ben watching on KFOR. This has easily got to be EF5, the devastation is unbelievable. Was on the ground for over half an hour. Much as I want to chase next year, I never want to see anything like this in a populated area. I was actually crying watching it.
  13. I guess that you're not in the the UK then Mr +++Thunderstorm+++ Certainly nothing that severe in the UK recently. Where are you?
  14. Been following him on twitter since he went up to the ISS. He's been truly inspirational and I'll miss his photographs and vids. He's going to be a hard act to follow.
  15. Gutted.com. It was your posts which got me interested n teleconnective forecasting. You'll be a great loss to NW but really pleased for you in that the work you've done is being recognised on a multi-national scale. Good luck!
  16. One man's/woman's mild is another man's cold! If, as I think will happen, the cold will start to "relax" in the coming week it certainly won't be mild but 1c with the windchill making it -7c yesterday and 7c with no windchill next Tuesday - that's a 14c perceived difference - it's going to feel pretty mild! I have to say I get really fed up looking at the MO thread only to see the usual gang in there going on about snowmageddon. If anyone "dares" to post a slightly less cold chart then they get jumped on by people who seem to want to be buried up to their necks in snow 365 days of the year. I spend quite a lot of my time studying charts, weather patterns etc and am totally fascinated by the synoptics that have made the last 6 weeks almost totally easterly-dominated but I daren't post anything in the MO thread which doesn't pay homage to the gods of snow because I know it'll just get derided. My own preference is for hot, sultry summer days, with convective evenings but I don't look for that type of weather in every chart all year round. Oh, and another thing ............................................................ Why oh why don't some of these people realise, the models don't actually MAKE the weather! Phew! Rant over, quite enjoyed that.
  17. This doesn't look too shabby - ok it's still below average but will feel positively balmy. GFS was hinting at a relaxation of the cold over easter way out in FI some time ago, then dropped the idea but it's been bringing it back slowly.
  18. Just to put things into perspective, Easter Sunday 2008 was on the 23rd March, this was the weather in Norfolk at the time. The high that day was 4.4c with a low of -0.6c
  19. Despite the radar echoes over West Norfolk for the last four hours, absolutely nothing has fallen out of the sky. At the moment the air is very dry, guess it's evaporating before it gets to the ground.
