  1. Wow I didn't even see them showers, looked out my window, turned my super bright torch on.. nothing. Waited a few seconds, and holy smokes it just started to snow. Very light, but good 1cm size snow flakes. Just not many of them. This doesn't happen to Leicester.. edit: Just checked the temps. It's like perfection, it's usually on a knife edge. But no, -3.3c, -3.9c wet bulb, -5c dew points cracking. That would explain why the snow flakes are settling so well.
  2. I know the 18z run isn't particularly great, but I hope it continues the 12z trend. Just don't want to start seeing downgrades!
  3. Looking great! But then it has so often in the past few years, and often ammounted to nothing. I would go on the side of caution here, I want this to come off just as much of the rest of you but the number of times it has all came crashing down to a non event in under t24 hours far outweighs the amount of times it hasn't. If the forecast is still this good late friday evening, I might be a bit more optimistic. But heres hoping
  4. People are talking end of january early feb, I hope this is true, it's just when I get back from holiday
  5. ECM looks great. I can't believe this is verifying, this is making it very tempting to cancel my holiday from the 21st to 28th Still 7+ days out though, much could change.
  6. Yep. The alps just got a good 50 to 100cm pasting as well. The things I would do to have 50 to 100cm of snow predicted here In other news i'm being optimistic and buying myself a good bright torch (Fenix TK35) to shine out my window in potential snow events. They turn the streetlights off here often so it can be hard to see the snow, and the stuff seems to always arrive at night..
  7. I'm on holiday abroad from the 21st to the 28th Jan. Will be extremely unimpressed if I miss the start of a good cold snowy period. Though I hope it comes off for you guys
  8. Thats pretty impressive then. There are quite a few MetO obersvations in West Midlands and East Midlands getting to around the 50mph mark, so i've probably seen the same I guess. It's definitely windy out there. Though apparently not windy enough to deserve a yellow warning.
  9. Yes it's windier than yesterday. Wind 20 to 30mph with gusts up to 40mph now. You guys sure about your wind speeds?, the figures a few of you are talking about are 10 to 20mph higher than anything predicted on the MetO for our more inland areas. I'm only seeing gusts aproaching 60mph in the coastal regions.
  10. Unless my local weather stations anemometers are wrong, even maximum gust speed predicted as little as 3 hours away is a good 20% higher than what gets recorded at the weather stations. MetO predicts a peak of 55mph for my area, I bet the max speed recorded is below 40mph for the 5 nearest weather stations to Leicester.
  11. Oh I am fully aware that there is much of Winter left. It's just that it currently sucks, and a nice (snow) change would be good. If no snow, i'd like some really cold days with crisp blue skys. I think me and many others are fed up of the moderate temperatures, rain and never ending cloud. It's looks like it might be starting to change judging by a few posts and opinions knocking about, which is good
  12. There is definitely a recurring theme to these storms. The midlands always gets a downgrade and misses the worst of it, naturally. And they always arrive at there most intense when i'm in bed. Storm or not, you can guarantee any mass of precipitation is along with some nice toasty 10c air to ruin any chance of snow too. So yeah at the moment this weather is driving me nuts, it wouldn't be so bad in a part of the country that gets hit more directly by these systems - atleast it would be interesting. For us it's just soaking wet, cloudy, with a few gusts of wind. Definitely need to either move north or south!
  13. Netweather forecast rekons 50 to 60mph gusts here, but it's always overdoes the gust speed by about 20mph for me when these storms hit.
  14. I guess I wouldn't love snow either if we got it every other day.
  15. Just annoying how persistent rain always manages to be, swamps the whole of UK for the entire day with not a break, nowhere escapes. Yet snow events always seem to be weak and marginal, and last little more than an hour at best Just look at that radar. Never in a million years would that happen in snow conditions
  16. Suns came out looks stunning. But at the same time, it's melting it, go away sun !
  17. I guess. Too late now, no more snow. Come back next winter, Leicester doesn't have more than one snow day a year
  18. 1/500th.. I'd need high ISO and about F1.8, only a few inches will be in focus lol !
  19. Yeah thats it for today looking at the radar. Still really happy with it, was expecting nothing. Snow isn't even wet, nice dry snow, decent size flakes too. Definitely one of them events where places a few miles away probably had nothing. Feel sorry for those guys but i'm sure they will get there turn. Seems odd how the precip is suddenly taking a much more southerly trend, it was barely going to hit leicester as of about 2 hours ago, and now its nearly 50miles south. Heres another HD video from me in Leicester
  20. Thanks Nikon D80 + Nikkor 50mm Prime F2.5 1/60th Sec ISO 500 (I know, pretty high, didn't have a lot of choice to pull that shot off) I certainly have been. Snowing consistently for an hour, been heavy at time with huge flakes albeit only for an hour. About 1cm fallen
  21. Snowing pretty heavy again. Only lasts a few minutes but still fun. Took a pic out my window.
  22. The snow here has turned into lots of tiny flakes about 1mm in size, I'd prefer less flakes of bigger size - just looks better. And wow just like that i got my wish, just checked out my window and it turned as I was typing this. Good times. According to radar the snow might even turn heavy for a few minutes in about 10 minutes time, this isn't the Leicester i've come to know over the past few years thats for sure. Wheres Andy, he'd be so happy right now. edit: Huge 50p flakes people !!!
  23. Theres stronger stuff on its way than what hit me 15minutes ago, hold out hope. When I say light snow, I mean very light >
  24. Really note sure how you've seen nothing. Im about 3 or 4 miles further east of you, you should of seen it first. Height ? Not that it should make much difference at these temps.
