  1. Well, i've tried to stay calm and relaxed. But to be honest, i'm hyped Looking good. I think we deserve it.
  2. I don't want to get overly optimisitc, because I remember being bitterly dissapointed last year when some good events crashed right at the last minute for us midlanders - well at least for me. But what do you think the chances are of this event coming off ? We're only about 36hours off now - I'd like to think there is a reasonable level of accuracy from now onwards.
  3. That looks nice, but really marginal and doesn't cover the east midlands well at all. Looks like Leicester is just about in that fireing line for some good snow, but it looks like a very narrow belt of snow in places. I hope it's a little more widespread than that otherwise it looks a little hit or miss for me and a few others. Still looking great though if it comes off. Boy do I remember this. Many times I was angry that winter. Hehe.
  4. Awesome. Tasty stuff. I'm no expert (Infact I tend to stay out of most weather discussions because I know too little), But i'm pretty sure those precipitation charts are notoriously inaccurate. Here's hoping though.
  5. Yep. Not to be too half cup empty, but don't you just know it'll happen.
  6. This is the first time in years I can recall Leicester having a primary position in any sort of significant weather event. Still too far out to call for definite on what appears to be a marginal event though. I'm trying not to get too excited just yet. What height are people at here ? Only 96m ASL here About 2 miles south of me is up to 140m ASL, so i know where i'm driving to come Thurs/Fri !
  7. Am i seeing right, the heaviest precip around Leicestershire? Blimey! I'm sure our snow shield will have a thing or two to say about that
  8. I suspect many people from Leicester, Nottingham will be in here. Practically snowless for the past 2 or so years ! Most i've seen is about 2inches, and it didn't last long. I'll probably be hanging around in here this winter too
  9. The annoying thing is, rain seems to have no problem getting here. But once it's snow, well, Leicester is the last place it goes
  10. 9.4c now rising roughly 1.1c an hour. Winds seem to have died down a little, strongest gust was around 2.5hours ago.
  11. Pretty boring here smack bang in the center of England. Always is. No storm really touches us here.. max gust of 37mph supposedly.
  12. I'm a subscriber to snow-forecast.com so I can view there 9day weather forecasts. Probably not really worth it thinking about it, anything over 4days out is hardly accurate. But it does seem to update 4 times a day, so yes i suspect it does use one of the more common runs, most likely GFS at a guess. I'm off Skiing in January, so i'm rooting for the channel track for Fridays storm. Terrible snow amounts over most of the alps at the moment. Go back 2 weeks and there was pretty much nothing. Still fairly FI at the moment though, I don't know half of what most people on here know but it's pretty obvious there is quite a lot of disagreement in the models. Seems pretty up in the air whats going to happen.
  13. Not sure where you saw that. Must of the alps are in for a good dumping, 30 to 50cm on friday across most parts, which is alot, but obviously not rare in the mountains at those heights. I can't see anywhere that is getting 1meter though. I suspect the snow levels will decrease across the alps if the UKMO is right with the track of the storm, I think those snow levels are assuming it takes a track closer to the channel.
  14. I am going to have to agree with you here. I live smack bang in the center of England, storms can come from north south east or west, but we never get anything like the worst of it down here either. We miss nearly all major snow events too. Any chance of some stormy weather, i'd like to take it. Of course I don't want people to get injured or hurt by it, but I love storms like many on here, so from that perspective atleast.. the more the merrier!
  15. Heading to Les Arcs at end of January, it's finally had some decent snow. You can really see how well the snow has built up over the past 5 days, particularly in the last 2 Saturday 3rd http://www.webcam-ski.com/archives/2011/12/03/1000/arc1950_clocher/clocher_MEGA.jpg Monday 5th http://www.webcam-ski.com/archives/2011/12/05/1000/arc1950_clocher/clocher_MEGA.jpg End of today http://www.webcam-ski.com/archives/2011/12/07/1600/arc1950_clocher/clocher_MEGA.jpg
  16. I am holding on to any chance of snow. The deepest covering of snow i've seen here in atleast the past 2 or 3 years has been 2, perhaps 3inches. Leicester does not do well wherever the snow comes from. So whenever there is a chance of snow coming our way, it gets pretty exciting Though I don't expect anything significant to come of this, at least a few mm dusting would look pretty. Regardless of wheather we get snow or not, I remember being here last winter and maybe even the one before and it's generally an excellent atmosphere and great fun chatting in the regional section when there is the potential for a dump of snow, can't wait for winter to really kick in!
  17. That maybe so, but as i was born in 1993 i can't remember ever seeing deep snow in Leicestershire. The past few winters the snow seems to fizzle out about 30+ miles east of here. More eastern counties in the midlands such as Lincolnshire seem to bare the brunt of any systems coming in from the east coast around the Midlands area. That said, i heard Derbyshire did well in one of these past winters.
  18. Nothing worse than fine snow that lasts for hours and amounts to nothing. I'm optimistic for a snowy winter for once. I say for once, because i live in Leicester. And being far away from pretty much every coast line is a great way to avoid snow fall! the most we got here last winter was 3inches. But i'm hoping for a bit of luck for this winter. I know it's not looking great so far for a snowy winter, but as they tend to struggle with forecasts more than a few days out i tend to not take to much notice to these things. I will never forget the Snow i saw when i was on holiday at Whistler, Canada in November 2009. That was a record breaking november for them, 5.6meters in 30 days ! Like i said, never will forget...
  19. So we've now established leicester has a wind shield too ! Definitely the safest place to live in the UK weather wise
  20. Ah, so back on the predicted track then ? Hows the intensity, as predicted ? or stronger/weaker ? Things seem windier here than they were 2 and half hours ago, but according to my local weather station the 23mph gust at 2:06am still has yet to beaten. Seems wrong to me but it's probably not.
  21. Fairly blustery out there now where i am. I'm fairly exposed but not very, i'm in village of about 5000people 10miles south of Leicester city. I'm one of the last few houses to the very south of the village where the wind is coming from, with flat fields behind me. I'm using this site http://www.stormtrack.co.uk/ an amateur weather station just a bit north of the other side of leicester. No doubt the person running it is a member on this website, Hi ! 23mph gust highest today so far according to that, from just 10 minutes ago. Good stuff Though way off MetO's 33mph for this time. MetO seems to be thinking the wind is stronger than it actually is at the moment, at least where i live.
  22. Not much faith in the MetO predicted Gust speeds for my area. They're predicting a maximum of 55mph for Leicester, East Midlands later today. However, they are currently saying there are wind gusts of 28mph, when in actual fact a local weather station is reporting just half that, about 15mph less. Using the same rule (-15mph off predicted) for the predicted maximum gives a more reasonable estimate of 40mph, which to me seems more likely.
  23. Oh god snow...... and leicester......... they don't mix, at all. I remember the last winter on this forum, it was torture ! - yet very entertaining and addictive.
