  1. Just saw a proper fork of lightning (CtoC) appeared 'beaded' for a second...nice booming bass of thunder - quite close. Not much visible lightning from this - if it was nighttime then it would be more exciting
  2. Thunder is ramping up here again - could be reaching its peak within the next hour I think. Watching those more intense radar echoes which are close by.
  3. Indeed we are but I'm was expecting it to be a bit more 'intense' than this, so far it has been quite average. I can't complain as its been too long since our last proper thunderstorm/MCS. I watched the outflow this morning from the Benelux system and was a little jealous...
  4. Thunder here in Eastbourne is becoming more frequent - still no visible lightning and rain is not as heavy as earlier! I think the cloud base is lowering as the clouds are changing again.
  5. I have a thunderstorm headache - just waiting the arrival of some lightning soon I hope. Rain has started again as the main batch is making landfall. Thunder!!!!
  6. First rumble of thunder this year I think in Eastbourne - nice boom...looking good for later
  7. Lots of low cloud rapidly racing past here - brief convective rain shower, no lightning or thunder yet. Those cells over Le Harve look tasty perhaps for later? Winds really did pickup before its arrival
  8. No - it has lost a lot of lightning activity since leaving the French coast. The cells behind maybe of more interest. I had a look out to sea and most of it breaking up into other cloud types. Nothing more than brief thundery rain but seems to be stronger to its western side...please reinvograte!
  9. Just had a quick look out across the Channel - can see some brief lightning from that narrow band of cells moving NE. They seem to be moderate thundery showers. More cells seems to be firing up along the French coast in a perfect line into the Channel - a few good forks to keep going overight before that MCS or remains of it arrives quite close. It eastern flank seems interesting and it is moving quickly. Quite warm even on the coast with hardly a breath of wind...
  10. Also this one has shown some good lightning in Portland http://highlandsendholidaypark.co.uk/webcam/ Looks like it is wet on Weymouth seafront...
  11. Getting excited about the prospects over the next few days - have just seen some Castellanus streaming in tonight while the light fades...hoping that we may see some lightning off the coast by midnight or early hours.
  12. Wow Kaddy was a little over enthusiastic with the thunderstorms on BBC South East - lots of them apparently...I'm not optimistic...but at least she's given me some hope!
  13. Wind starting to pickup a fair bit here right on the SE coast - can hear it blowing down the street and moving through the building...
  14. I live right on the Sussex coast and it looks like I will suffer the worst of the gusty winds in the early hours...maybe slightly worse than the other night. I'm more concerned about the amount of rainfall that will be falling over South West England and South West Wales in the next 12-18 hours. Some torrential rain over Wiltshire and Hampshire too at the moment.
  15. Looks like anaprop or radar deflection/reflection - seems to behave as such as no clear cell direction/distinction. Haven't been on the forum hardly this year - I've not witnessed a thunderstorm so far....very odd. Maybe a chance within the next few days.
  16. Well I'm back for the summer thunderstorm season so lets see what this year brings...keeping my hopes up high! I'll be the eyes and ears when I can as I live right next to the Channel.
  17. That area also covers the Channel Islands and parts of NW France - these areas will have the strongest gusts along with the Western coast of France. I think the storm force 10 warning would refer to those areas.
  18. You can clearly see an empty circle over SW Cornwall on the latest rainfall radar - that's where the Low centre is roughly...there are winds gusting 90mph over NW France - Channel Islands getting a battering too Strongest winds are always to the south of the centre...its southern flank Also remember to find your nearest Low pressure stand with your back to the wind (from the direction its blowing) and its on your left
  19. I don't think that's the eye probably just a gap in the system close to the centre of the ever developing Low...its hard to spot as there is no spiral and tail yet - just a mass of cloud!! Lots of steady rain here and I can't hear the wind...unlike Monday night!
  20. Oh dear Coast I live right beside the sea...75mph gusts possible around 9pm-midnight!...just had a heavy shower with some nice Cumulonimbus Capillatus in the Channel. Wonder what time high tide is. My thought for Friday's storm is the Low entering the North Sea - could pose a threat to Eastern Coasts around Lincolnshire and Norfolk?
  21. Heavy rain here on the South Coast with a rumble of thunder - well better late than never!
  22. Heavy rain drops falling as I wind down...very welcome...oooohh getting heavy
  23. Well that's it folks off to bed - this may well invigorate inland but its a write off for me. Any decent core is decaying/staying in the Channel and no sign of anything electrical - just hope we get some rain at least!
  24. Grapping some tea and then I'm off out for a look out to sea...we really want to see those forks
  25. Hi fellow Eastbourneans?! - It looks like a giant foot on the latest radar image - the toes may hit us later
