  1. Can see yellow lit lightning cloud tops in the Channel from my home in Eastbourne
  2. I'm surprised this morning - where has this rain come from? Yesterday's forecast only mentioned a front going through East Anglia only but the rain covers all of southern England, Midlands and Wales. I'm getting some heavy bursts here on the south coast. It's most unexpected and welcome! That full 22 degree halo I saw yesterday was right then.
  3. Good view looking east towards Kent from Eastbourne - a windswept anvil from the Dover cell on the right with mammatus and new Cumulus Congestus development to the north of it...may bode well for north Kent / Essex later?
  4. I saw the birth of this storm from the East Sussex coast looking towards Beachy Head (1st photo) from my vantage points on Eastbourne seafront and then looking towards Hastings on 15th July 2007 between 1945-2050. All taken with my Sony Ericsson W850 mobile phone. It got much more menacing and interesting as it moved to Hastings. Photos are in order.
  5. Plenty of elevated lightning flashes seen from Eastbourne...seems quite active
  6. Hmmm nothing electrical is getting into the Channel at the moment - all quite close to the French side (landmass) I know these are elevated type storms...
  7. Thank you and hello there. Same here - nearly 30 years for being a PSB fan too! Along with thunderstorms! Its actually turned partly sunny and warmer here after some brief moderate rain moved through. This will aid cell development on the other side of the Channel.
  8. Haha thanks I live in Eastbourne right on the coast and I'm a lifelong Pet Shop Boys fan...I saw a couple of flashes of lightning last night out in the Channel before some night time low cloud rolled in over the Downs. I hoping there will be some sort of infrequent lightning display later from 2200+ this evening
  9. Some variations of fine outlined Altocumulus here - not quite castellanus but maybe a warning sign. We had loads of smoke in the air here from a huge fire at Lydd Military Range a few hours ago moving along the Kent/Sussex coast. Looks like central southern England could be in the zone judging by those Caen cells.
  10. Wind has picked up here on the coast at Eastbourne - very breezy. Must be heralding the arrival of the rain soon? Electrical activity atm just can't make it into the Channel.
  11. Well that was an amazing hour and a half in Eastbourne complete with a brief and predicted power-cut. That was a proper summer thunderstorm complete with loud booming gun shot thunder, anvil crawlers and very intense rainfall and this time it actually made landfall! Some amazing CG forked lightning which I have not seen as bright or as close for many years. After last year's strobe sheet lightning storm this was a different and very welcome beast. I hope other got to see and hear it. I saw the CB cloud responsible forming to my SW just before I sat down to watch Brian Cox on BBC2.
  12. OMG What a storm - hail torrential rain- where the hell did this come from? Its insane and unexpected - flabbergasted
  13. Saw a lot of cloud building from the south this morning and now we have the first rain in probably a month and a half - the smell is amazing! This area of convective rain wasn't on the BBC forecast this morning (stayed in France) - will this inhibit thunderstorm potential later (i.e. lots of associated cloud)?
  14. Oh my word this is one strobing light show...almost constant distant thunder and elevated lightning...what a treat. Many IC forks...heading NE towards Sussex and Kent coastline
  15. Thunderstorm here in Eastbourne wasn't particularly spectacular and didn't give much rain...still very welcome of course A few cloud to cloud forks with long deep rumbles. Hopefully later will provide something a bit juicer. Clouds have been amazing mind.
  16. Plenty of various varieties of Altocumulus spewing up from the south west - weather is definitely changing. Had plenty of low cloud and mist earlier, so much better now with warm and very humid conditions.
  17. Remains of old storm Eastbourne storm seems to have re-developed near Laughton/Ringmer, East Sussex. I can see some CG forks from my window.
  18. New thunderstorm has gone up east of Eastbourne in the last hour - literally out of nothing. Could be back building as its seems to be shifting towards me.
  19. Yes...we had some good flashes, in cloud beady forks, hail and torrential rain - all moved through quickly...hope you guys get some up the coast!
  20. Thunder heard in Eastbourne - ominous looking skies and sounding good!
  21. Looks like the daughter cells to the West in the Channel may clip me later - main mother cell ahead must be for the Kent coast. Gonna be a close one!
  22. Torrential rain here in Eastbourne for the last half hour...some decent lightning and thunder to boot. About time! Been a while since I last posted something decent. We had a busy early morning too from 3am-5am with some good lightning and thunder. Surprised at the easterly shift and the lack of storm progress in land this morning.
  23. Was watching the on the airport webcams last night - absolutely incredible storm and associated system. Quite scary, shocked at the loss of life - some people caught unaware from the 50,000 fallen trees. watch that tree!
  24. Excellent! first flash of summer lightning and deep rumbles of thunder in Eastbourne - I could smell the storm in the air before it started! Short lived but welcome....ohhhh!
  25. A small convective shower and then a short thundery shower this morning during my early morning walk...some nice anvils and fast growing Cumulus with pileus in places...nice radar blob heading for Brighton - keep an eye on that one
