Happy Christmas all!!
Happy to report falling snow with a couple of cm on the ground in Ashton, Wigan.
Quite surprised at how quickly and easily the snow laid on extremely wet surfaces.
'It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas...'

Moderate snow shower, biggish flakes

Fairly broken cloud here with patches of blue sky. Nothing falling from the sky.
-
Almost a flurry here now.
-
A few flakes drifting down from time to time, no great amount or anything that quantifies as even a flurry as yet.
Temp 0.9C

A few flakes blowing in the wind, mostly cloudy with the sun peeking through from time to time. Windy.

A lot of broken cloud here this morning, so plenty of sunshine on offer. It doesn't make it feel any warmer though in the strong and thoroughly bitter wind.
So it's looking doubtful at this range that Friday's low pressure will make any real inroads against the cold block. ECM/UKMO just about getting some ppn into Cornwall but GFS does want to send if further North. I'd be more inclined to go with the European models atm but still a long way from the weekend so things might change.
So looking to be mainly dry this week, perhaps a few snow showers over the Peninnes; more especially on Wednesday. Probably staying cold up to and throughout the Easter weekend.
Temp 2C/-5.2

It would be nice if we got another dumping of snow at the end of this week but I'm all for a warm up after that. Hopefully Winter can go out with a bang rather than a whimper.

With such a strong E/NE flow progged for the week there is always the chance for embedded troughs to develop in the flow. Whatever happens one things for sure it's going to remain cold!

Post just disappeared. Weird! haha
Anyways, I just posted that from friends have posted some videos of their snow in Vivod 300m hill near Llangollen. The snow is on average 1m deep.
Here is the video after the first day... ( just notice their fence....)
http://www.facebook....&type=2
Then today, the fence is nearly gone and its over 1m high normally...

Scottish Power have said they have seen nothing like it in the area before. Even Llangollen itself is shut off as such, people panic buying etc...

especially a nice polar low
Unfortunately with winds coming from the East this week, we won't be seeing any polar lows. There needs to be a Northerly air stream for a polar low to develop.

Just flakes blowing in the wind for the past hour. Not enough to make any impact. Lots of icicles hanging from trees and roofs. There are some decent sized flakes but very few and far between.
Roads and pavements will be hazardous as any snow melt freezes up tonight.

We can't surely get more snow that would be just greedy! lol Going weirdly dark here though!
It will certainly need to pick up the intensity if it's to make any impact, very light with just the odd bigger flake mixed in. looking at the radar the ppn does look to be converging on the region from all angles.

Started snowing again here, albeit very light.

This is from the local police facebook site:
As you may be aware Kirk Michael is cut off at the moment. Emergency workers who live in the village are now working from the village and are providing fire, police and medical cover. If you need them and it is an emergency go through the normal 999 call procedure. They are getting out and about checking on vulnerable persons. I spoke to an Officer out there who described the 9 foot snow drifts an...d general bad conditions as terrible.
That's an amazing fall of snow! Watching the radar yesterday the IOM was permanently under deep red and heavy snow. Not surprising that parts of the island are buried.

I don't know which model Weather Underground base their forecasts on but they're forecasting quite a bit of snow Fri/Sat.
I wouldn't build up your hopes just yet but it's a possibility at least ☺ï¸
