You've just hung yourself there mate, its alright just saying Greater Manchester but on the maps we were not covered fact. Poor from the UKMO in my opinion.
Crikey Dave you live a stones throw from Merseyside which was clearly under the Amber Zone on the map, hardly a bad forecast for your area!
Can't see the need to bash the Met Office over a few miles here and there. It was a difficult situation with some areas seeing hardly any snow and a few miles down the road folk getting buried. I think in general the warnings where pretty good considering.
Perhaps in future they'll also amend the picture for folk who don't read the updated warning.
No shopping today in the IOM!
Wow! You guys did get buried - amazing picture!
-
Sorry I have to agree with this. The Met Office did not put the whole of Greater Manchester on a warning last night, they failed spectacularily!
I have to disagree. At the bottom of the warning page where it states which areas are under the warning it clearly stated Greater Manchester from 10pm until 6am this morning.
Parts of the area may have been out of the Amber Area on the map but it was clearly stated in print.
Perhaps it's splitting hairs but the area was under warning, even if the map didn't highlight it.

All of Greater Manchester was under an Amber Warning from 10pm last night until 6am this morning.

Latest radar shows the ppn really starting to fragment and weaken over our region.
Still snowing lightly
0.1C/-0.2C

Wow! Even more impressive now at first light. Scenes more akin to the Arctic then Wigan out there! Lots of blowing snow in the gusty wind and continuous fine snow coming down.
Will check on the side of house drift shortly
-
how much you got up there buddy I wanted to watch super league tonight!
Probably around 15cm more in the drifts.
Still snowing here but like a very heavy snizzle/diamond dust at the moment.
Are you travelling to the game or hoping to see on Sky?

The updated forecast still paints a snowy picture for the NW.
Headline:
Outbreaks of snow easing. Very cold and windy.
Today:
Remaining very cold and windy with outbreaks of snow continuing, heavy at first across the south and over high ground with a risk of blizzards and drifting. Snow will ease somewhat by the afternoon with just isolated flurries over Cumbria. Maximum Temperature 3 °C.
Tonight:
Becoming dry over Cumbria. Elsewhere, snow will continue to ease and drift southwards so that by morning drier spells are likely across the south. A widespread penetrating frost will develop. Minimum Temperature -4 °C.
Sunday:
Patchy snow across Cheshire, Greater Manchester and maybe southern Lancashire initially, but most places becoming dry with some bright or sunny spells developing. Very cold and windy. Maximum Temperature 4 °C.
Could still be some snow in the region come Sunday morning.

Looking at the radar the band certainly showing signs of weakening. Loosing intensity and starting to break up a bit now.
-
REALLY coming down now my god its taken an eternity to get here but easily 5cm and more in the drifts.Im happier than I was but still that hole did my head in .
Glad your finally building a cover

Just woke up and took a look outside - still snowing albeit very fine snow at the moment. The wind has dropped quite a bit but still gusty.
Quite surprised to see a lot of ppn returns on the radar, so could still be snowing for a few more hours yet.
Looks to be around 15cm in favoured areas,I'll get a measure later.
Temp -0.2C
dp -0.5C
Light snow

One question. Now I've received nearly 8 inches of accumulated snow why wasn't part of Greater Manchester included or even updated in the amber warning? And its still coming down!
Not a scooby mate. Is it still coming down there?
Greater Manchester has been under Amber Warning since this afternoon Dave
Valid from 2pm Friday until 6am Saturday
-
Snowing moderately still and building. Good few inches out there now. I think I'll hit the hay and see how things look in the morning. Hope you guys who have seen very little get some cover overnight and then you can go and gloat in the Hereford thread
-
It does look good from that perspective but if you compare the rainfall tallys....
Now..
6am.....
That's a lot less than what we have now, and if now is only producing wet, not-sticking snow for the majority then 6am doesnt hold out much hope. The only glimmer of hope is if the temps can drop to below 0c . Then we might be ok with whats falling....
I hope things pick up for you guys in the South of the region

Picture from earlier on in the Isle of Man
Is that a high level route?
The IOM certainly has had some very heavy ppn returns showing on radar throughout the day.
-
Already wrong, has turned to snow as far south as Hertfordshire.
Glad to hear you're getting some snow
The point I was making was more about the Met's Amber warning being very similar to the area of heaviest snowfall shown on the NAE
-
Just looking at the 18Z NAE for 6am in the morning and the Met Office Amber Warning, a striking similarity wouldn't you say?

I'm about 1.5 miles from Haydock, do I make it into the Bermuda Snow triangle?
-
Its fine, haydock is a lovely place to live and.tonight its snowy. so even better.
I have friends and family in Haydock, as most Ashton folk probably do
Nice event now for our neck of the woods
-
Whereabouts are you?
Hope Gearbox doesn't mind me saying but I think just down the road from me in Haydock.
-
Temps just gone up to 0.1C but dp have risen to -0.3C the highest they've been all day!
-
Just as a gloat, heres a pic of my garden table in Mold, NE Wales, 125m asl. That's the last 2 cm of a 30cm ruler just sticking out of the top.
Now your talking!

Now that's the snow I like to see looks.... AWESOME !
It's a shame we struggled to get any laying snow through last night and most of today or totals could have been very impressive. As it is we have around 3 inches on the grass and a couple of inches on roads and pavements that were wet until around 6pm. Hoping it can continue for the night
