A bit confused here. The met office has issued amber warnings but If I am correct the North West is not covered. Just saw a live report from Piccadilly Station in Manchester and the reporter was saying the south can see winds of 70mph with train delays and the north west can see wind of 90mph but no warnings for us?

We have had a really heavy squall just pass here. Some damage tonight which is a shame but at last some weather!!!

I do not understand why people are getting so uptight in the forecasting forum. Talk about doom and gloom!!! It is only the 9th. I am off to Alberta in Jan and boy they really know how to do winter!! -35 when last there. We would get a taxi for a very short journey for dinner as it was so cold but love the landscape in the snow. Snow and ice walking and dog sledging.

Noticed the met office upgraded the storm. Hard to believe a storm on it's way. Outside is calm and temps dropping away with cloud breaking up. See Scotrail have already cancelled all trains for the first part of the day. I work near the top floor of the Arndale Tower so I wonder if we will feel anything !,

As a novice I find how people get really hot under the collar in this forum about the various outputs. I always think take them all at face value and wait for an outcome. In 2010 winter really did not start till Fri 17th Dec and then it really did kick in till mid Jan. I am waiting and seeing. If it comes off we will love it, If does not then we will save on our fuel bills and the elderly will be better off.

Ahh did wonder. The weather has been interesting today to say the least!!!

Well since that storm has gone through the wind has dropped out and the temp has fallen. Funny thought the wind was going to get stronger as we go into the evening and night.

This autumn has been pretty warm. I have a wifi inside temp unit that switches the heating on if the temp drops below 18c inside and apart from a few days a few weeks ago it has not come on. I do have cavity wall insulation and more than the required loft insulation. I also have solar on the roof. This year it has all come together as I am going into winter with a £300 credit on my energy bills and my direct debit has been reduced. I can not believe one more week and we will be in November!! I know the autumn leaves have been delayed by around three weeks. I guess when the cold does come it will be a shock!!!

Just thought I would let you know what I picked up yesterday as I am interested in Canada weather as I go over every year. Both Environment Canada and the weather USA met office have issued their winter forecast for 2013/14. Below average temperatures are expected with higher than normal snow fall across the USA/Canada.

Well the BBC weather today has changed from getting milder with a warmer outlook to getting much colder on Monday!!!

Well the temp started at -3c and went up to +4.1c with the sun out. Now cloud moved in and 3.1c and falling

-4.5c West Manchester. Coldest night here so far. Lovely morning

I would not rule out some snow maybe late Wed or Thurs bur certainly Good Friday looks interesting as the Atlantic says enough is enough and pushes in. The question is where will the battleground be?? But what ever happens snow will come in and maybe the cold will push south again. Even the BBC are saying look out for Friday now.

I work in the city and it never got above 0c with a wind that would win an oscar If we had wind oscars!!! At home now and already -1 in West Manchester!! The week ahead is looking interesting by Good Friday. I wonder how many people's Easter break and travel is going to be stopped as the potential for yet more snow could hit the UK again.
