  1. still freezing here, just about -0.5 max temp has been zero. Got drips happening from the roof but nothing from the trees so far. Looks like it's started just to the south of oxford.
  2. I wouldnt write it off totally, only needs some quite small shifts to hit the west of the region. And I'd guess the further south you are the further east it COULD go. That said the further south you are the higher the likelihood it falls as sleet.
  3. It is, just driven into MK and saw quite a few accidents on the way. Be careful out there, the roads are mostly clear but there are some nasty patches of ice.
  4. The weekend event is supposed to be a deep low off the Atlantic. Fronts being pushed in ahead of the low could well be snow on the leading edge, but then forecast to turn to rain as the low pushes over us and clears the blocking high that's given us our cold spell. This is what most/nearly all of the models were showing last night. Personally I'm hoping the block holds!
  5. Latest NAE is showing some more snow for the west of the region early wednesday, be interesting to see if that pans out.
  6. It will still be winter, so we can look forward to mild, and at times wet weather perhaps cold and dry with wintery showers. Hope that helps
  7. Is that petrol or oil? My RWD mistress is staying tucked up in her bed, no way I'd ever get it back up the drive even if I could get it up the lane. Got my drifting kick out the way with a spell on the wet weather handling area at Rockingham - great fun
  8. And some decent sized flakes! All I've seen so far is this really small stuff. The duration of it makes for some good depths but I want to see those enormous fat flakes drifting lazily down at least once this winter.
  9. Well 13 and a half hours since I noticed it had started and still it comes. No time to watch anymore as I'll have to get up really early for car, drive and road clearing. 2 neighbours and myself to take into Aylesbury tomorrow, just hoping everyone else decides to stay at home so the roads are clear! Night all
  10. I think, unless it's a weather phenomenon, that it could be due to the cloud thats giving you this sits under the horizon of the radar for your area. Basically radar is line of sight only, it doesnt go round curves (normally), so the curvature of the earth, and maybe local terrain, blocks returns. The further you are from the radar the more often this will occur.
  11. Just been out with the ruler. 18cm total snow depth, 8cm on a surface I cleared this morning. Not bad, and still it comes.
  12. It could also be caused by a landscape feature partially blocking returns from particular directions, although I'd have thought they'd have positioned the sites well enough to avoid this. Whichever it is if theres a really straight line, or a very regular looking curve it may well be a radar feature.
  13. It looks like a calibration difference between different radars. The coverage is made up of overlapping returns from many different stations so I'd say thats whats causing SOME of the odd looking linesex-radar engineer but not weather radar.
  14. Still just about going here, about a 2 on the SM scale I'd say. Doesnt look like we're going to get 12 hours though.
  15. Looks like an intense pulse coming out of rotterdam on the radar. If im not mistaken it appears to be heading for the north of our area (looks like it's headed for Norwich and north). Hope it makes it - should be fun hearing how high up the murr scale you get
  16. blimey just looked at the radar, doesnt look like it's going to give up easily. Looks like another 6 hours or so?
  17. We've had 6cm fall on cleared areas today. Snowing solidly now since 9am, small flakes but very steady. It's compressing the 5 inches we had on Friday, can see where the layers are on wall tops.
  18. I must be reading the radar wrongly; to me it appeared to break west of the a1 at around 11:40. There's heavier showing to the east of a line between Cheshunt and Royston though?
  19. It was being held on a line to the east of the A1 earlier, now it's moved to around the M1. I was wondering if it was a radar artefact as it was so clear a line (different calibration between radars or something).
  20. There were some earlier that were heading toward the SE. They appear to have moderated as they cross the coastline though, not sure why.
