Down to 2.3°C from 2.4. Let's hope this downward trend continues!
-
Temperature getting close to 2°C now, I hope this doesn't melt anytime soon, would be quite disappointing if it did.
EDIT: it already has started to thaw. Snow dropping from trees all over the place. We could really do with the temp dropping, what's it expected to peak at?
-
Surely it won't turn back and come at us from the west. That would be completely insane!
-
Some of these flakes are huge! Definitely the biggest since December 2010 here. If this can keep up for a few hours it would be fantastic!
-
Some of the best stuff we've had all night falling here. It's looking lovely outside, I can't wait for all of the cars to ruin the street later. How inconsiderate of them!
-
Will the western part of the region continue to get it? The most recent radar shots show the southerly tip starting to move northwards but at the same time the whole thing is shifting slightly WNW. I'm quite unsure about what's going to happen.
-
that's good for us isn't it?The southern tip of the precipitation is slowly coming north but now it looks to me that it is rotating from nw to wnw, this has to be watched.
-
This is all very exciting. It's finally started to settle on wet surfaces here, if we can get the heavier snow to us we could be in for a decent amount come the morning.
Why is it the NW always seems to do better from unexpected events rather than expected ones. For example, the streamer in Dec 2010 that gave some of us huge amounts was not really forecast. Events that are supposed to be big for us usually end up downgrading to nothing like on Friday.
-
How much do you have accumulated now Feb?
-
I can't go to bed for as long as that area East of us is heading towards us. So far anything heavy has just missed us, surely not again? We're doing far better than I realistically expected so far from this system tonight. I hope me saying this doesn't jinx things for the remainder of the night!
I've been going to bed for the last hour and a half but keep finding myself at the window. I still stand by my earlier comment that if I wake up to a 1cm covering I'll be happy, anything else is a bonus
-
If the ground temperature goes below 0°C, would the snow start to stick even on wet ground? So far tonight, the only snow that has stuck has been on leftovers from Friday and on car roofs.it would be snow right now if it landed, so either way it dont matter
temps will go down quick quickly soon, along with dew points, so no marginality at all, if its not sticking , it will be because its light and the surface is wet, but it will eventually stick
-
It's picked up a bit here but it still isn't sticking to anything wet. If we got this earlier this weekend we would have been doing well. Very frustrating.

1 ignore the bbc
2 ignore itv
3 ignore all tv forecasts, they all stink
And most of all, ignore Dianne Oxberry.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's even belting it down to the north of us in Preston apparently. We have no luck!Belting down to the East of me in Saddleworth and belting down to the West in Merseyside!..Not much going on in the middle lol!

It's been snizzling here now for about an hour. None of the radars seem to be working but I can't see much coming up soon either.
-
Moderate snowfall but it isn't sticking anywhere apart from places with remaining snow cover from Friday.
Typical!
-
Meanwhile in Wigan, we still have sparkly dandruff falling.
-
Dandruff falling. It's a start, I'm hoping to god this thing doesn't lose energy now it's so close.
-
Small bit of precipitation coming slightly NW towards the west of the region past Crewe on the 19:50 radar.
-
2-3cm doesn't sound too bad, it should be yet another interesting night of lamp post watching! From the way things are looking we will at some stage later on this afternoon and this evening see a period of moderate snow. Grounds temps are still very low because even though over the last two days we've lost some snow cover the vast majority is still on the ground. I think we'll perhaps get at least another 2-3 cm during the evening in to the late evening in my opinion.
-
How do you rate our chances Dave here?
-
I'm guessing there won't be much to look forward to tomorrow for Wigan?
-
Big downgrade on the GFS 18z for Sunday/Monday's event, not that I'm taking it seriously, after the last week's rollercoaster I'm not believing anything until within around 12-15 hours!

Looks like we should be getting a light snow shower in the next 20 minutes or so here according to the radar.
