  1. 9.8mm for the day, looks worse the further south you are
  2. Lasted 8 days here, 10 if you include 2 days of 19c in it
  3. This phenomenal spell of weather continues... temperature starts off at 11c at around 8am, with patchy sunny intervals and the temperature dropped to 10c by 10am. Now back up to 11c at 11am in june.
  4. parts of the eden valley area and the pennines in cumbria haven't exceeded 16c this june either
  5. Browsing around the country it is clear this June has been quite awful so far. In the south places have already had over 100mm, 70-80mph winds and in some places just 10% of the average sunshine for June. The CET mean maximum looks about 3c below average, competing with the coldest junes ever at the moment Here in the Northern Lake District it hasn't been especially wet with just 50mm so far, although this is not far off the average for June. Sunshine has been scarce with just 3 or 4 mainly sunny days. Mean Maximums are around 2.5c below average, which is shocking. Maximum so far this month is 19.5c, making last years cool june sounds tropical Here it is probably the worst since 1987 although it could end up even worse, who knows Before that, June 1972 was the coolest of the century in Cumbria, with mean max's of 14c and an absolute max of 18.5c
  6. 19.7c here, 20.1c in the next valley This looks like an even more remarkable spell of weather than april 2011 for the Lake District
  7. 1995 has got to be the pick of the bunch, 2006 not too far behind, 2003 not really in the same league despite the August heat. 1983 and 1989 the stand out summers from the 80's which can just about rival 1995 and 2006. July 1989 was almost as hot as july 2006 at keswick, with 0.2 between the mean maximums, at 23.8c and 24.0c respectively. June 1989 ended up 1c cooler than june 2006 due to a cool first 10 days, but was still overall warm and dry August 1989 was slightly better than 2006 as the heat lasted into the first week, and wasnt as dull if taking May into account as well, then 1989 wins with May 1989 having 261 hours sunshine at Aspatria, being a warm and very sunny month September 2006 was much warmer than 1989, despite September 1989 being very dry
  8. Late June into july 2009 was as far as im aware, the last prolonged and widespread heatwave across the UK and is fast becoming a distant memory. Locally it was hot from the 23rd june to the 2nd of july, with temperatures between 25c and 28c in june, and 28-30c on the 1st and 2nd of july. I remember seeing the car thermometer at 30c and warm evenings, and it was quite well publicized at the time in the news and media. Apart from the odd day in 2010 and 2011 that was hot, this was the last decent hot spell in this area, where there was a run of days with temperatures in the high 20's, and the last time 30c was reached. Id like to hear anyone else's memories of this fine spell of weather
  9. Any idea how much rain you had? Nothing much fell here, few drops of sleet and raIn totaled 3mm
  10. I think what i hope for and what i am expecting are two different things. Id hope that january and february turn out to be cold, frosty and sunny, with march and april having lots of pleasant warming days of spring sunshine, but cool by night aswell. May i hope to bring the first hint of summer, especially round the last week, and it to be dry and sunny. June, July and August i hope to be dryer, warmer and sunnier than average. Autumn much wetter and windier broken up with spells of frost and fog, then december to be cold and frosty. What i expect is January to be very mild and wet, February to be less mild and dryer but no severe cold spell, march, april and may will probably be unusually dry or warm again, giving way to a very wet june, very dull and wet july, then a cold august again.
  11. temperature drop from 10c to 6c in the last 30 mins, with horizontal rain and hail in 30-40mph gusts, wind chill of around 0c Edit - 10 minutes later its calm and bright
  12. The 7th December 2010 was an ideal day. 5 inches of snow fell overnight ( total depth 8 inches ) and had drifted in places to 2 feet deep, at sunrise, the sun never appeared as it was blocked out by a thick sheet of cirrocumulus type cloud to the south, meaning it never got the chance to warm the air or the snow, and with clear skies above, it stayed bitterly cold all day, maximum temperature was -1.4c, then the temp dropped away very rapidly to -12c, with the following day the 8th maxing at -6c
  13. A truly memorable spell of weather, arguably best spell of the year, after missing out on heatwaves in late june and early august, this put the summer to shame, cloud finally moved in now to give some drizzle, still warm
  14. Just saw on the gfs that 15c 850 uppers were over the central uk at lunchtime, with the 15c line elsewhere well south, into north africa, so what would the 850's have been in high summer? and then temperatures recorded as a result?
  15. got very warm at lunchtime and hit 25.7c, a bit cooler now cirrus is moving in from the west, but still very pleasant at 24.5c
  16. Yesterday was the highest max of the year, today is the highest mean temp of the year and highest night minimum of the year, not bad for 2 days in late septemer, or maybe just showing how poor the summer really was.
  17. Another fantastic day, unlike yesterday some nice wispy clouds around, but nothing to block the sun, very warm night minimum of 17c, 22c the high so cooler than yesterday , not the thick cloud all day that was forecast
  18. hit 25,0c here, car themo showed 26c, amazing day, 0.1 warmer than the 4th July, warmest day of the year
  19. North Cumbria Hottest part of the country outside the London Area, Carlisle 25c at 1pm 24.8c here Drumburgh 26.4c
  20. Im really looking forward to this late heatwave as it is going to last more than one day, unlike anything here through the summer. Highest was 24.9c - july 4th (day after dull) 2nd highest 23.4c June 3rd (day after back to average) Apart from them being very low highest temperatures, they were the only 2 days above 23c, all the summers here have at least one decent spell of temperatures 23-28c, even the worst ones.... Spells of temperatures in the mid to upper twenties 2010 - multiple 2-3 day spells in june 2009 - 22nd june - 2nd July 2008 - 23rd-31st July 2007 - 1st - 11th june 2006 - lots 2005 - 7th - 13th july 1986 - 26th - 30th June 1972 - 15th - 20th July ( one of the coolest summers) you get the idea - 2011 must be one of the worst summers ever here for heat
  21. If projected temperatures come off it will be the warmest spell of the year here with at least 3 days of 24c forecast, what i won't be able to stand is it ruined in any way by cloud / rain from the west
  22. Just for fun, make up a year using past months that you would like to relive or experience to make up a dream year, going as far back as you want such as feb 1947 or dec 1890 etc. so here's mine - January 1940 February 1955 March 1995 April 2003 May 1989 June 1975 July 1989 August 1995 September 1986 October 1992 November 2010 December 2010
