  1. The Northern Fells have by far the most snow on down to low levels, none of the western fells have any snow on at all except the very highest as far as i can see -
  2. It is all about time perspective... At the moment we are in Quarternary Ice Age that started 2.5 million years ago, but in an inter-glacial period which started about 10,000 years ago, but in effect we are still in an Ice Age
  3. Snow and Ice down to 700ft here in the North Lakes, Northern Fells look very white indeed, accompanied by thunder and lightening too

  5. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/pub/data/weather/uk/climate/averages/maps/uk/8110_1km/SnowLying_Average_1981-2010_17.gif Upper Eden valley appears to be the only large "lowland" area of England in the dark blue
  6. If it reached 14c due to it being sunny and calm everyday then i wouldn't be too unhappy, especially as it could still allow for some frosty spells mixed in, a bit like a double spring. What i would detest would be it being mildest on record due to persistent cloud cover equaling mildest minimums on record with a low diurnal range i.e max 9c min 8c
  7. Perfect in my eyes would be... mean max / mean min / high max / lowest min / sunshine / rain Jan 5c / -4c 10c / -15c 100hrs 75mm Feb 7c / -3c 13c / -12c 120hrs 75mm Mar 13c / 0c 21c / - 6c 180hrs 70mm Apr 16c / 2c 26c / - 3c 210hrs 70mm May 19c / 6c 28c / 3c 300 hrs 60mm Jun 21c / 9c 31c / 5c 320 hrs 50mm Jul 24c / 14c 36c / 10c 340 hrs 30mm Aug 23c / 15c 32c / 12c 300 hrs 50mm Sep 19c / 6c 28c / -2c 200 hrs 80mm Oct 14c / 2c 21c / -7c 150 hrs 90mm Nov 10c / 0c 18c / -9c 120 hrs 90mm Dec 3c / -3c 13c / - 15c 100 hrs 95mm Annual sun 2450 hrs Annual rain 835mm
  8. My Favourite Calender months are January - 2010 - deep cold and snow for 2/3rds of the month, never got mild - Sun 50hrs February - 2003 - dry, very sunny, frosty cold spells with milder periods of spring like weather - Sun 125hrs March - 2011 - normal march starting as winter and ending as spring - Sun 120hrs April - 2010 - sunny dry normal spring month again, few warm days and a few frosts - Sun 190hrs May - 2008 - early start to summer warm dry sunny - Sun 240hrs June - 2009 - hot start straight back into winter then heatwave last week. - Sun 230 hrs July - 2013 - not as warm as 06 but just as sunny, and wet thundery last week to quench the drought - Sun 290 hrs Aug - 1984 - not quite as extreme as 95 but a good summer month Sun 210 hrs Sept - 1991 - Hot first half, frost by end of the month - Sun 190hrs Oct - 1993 - Very sunny, cold, frosty - Sun 115hrs Nov - 2005 - warm start, thunderstorms, very cold frosty 2nd half - Sun 90hrs Dec - 2010 - record breaking cold with early deep snow - Sun 55 hrs A year of those months would give 1905 hours of sun here and about 650mm rain so about as dry as 1996, sunnier than 2003 too Worst months recently would be Jan - 2008 - V mild and wet Feb - 2011 - unseasonably mild wet and dull, all but frost free March - none April - 2013 - windy all month, freezing May - 2011/2013 - very unseasonable June - 2012 - record dull/wet July - 2007/2012 - same as june August - 2011 - horrible cool wet month September - 2012 - record wet and very cool October - none November - none December - 2006 - endless rain very mild
  9. In Cumbria December 2010 pasted the likes of Jan/Feb 1963, Feb 1947, Jan 1940 and in some parts was 1c colder than the coldest month ever recorded in recent times (Jan 1940) As others have said December 2010 really sparked my interest in the weather along with Jan 2010 and the failed BBQ summer of 2009. seeing -9c on the car at midday in the sun was rather special quite a few good summer months in recent times but none are extreme enough over the others here to stand out alone
  10. June here was 201 hrs and July 296 and on 62 in august so a total of 559, august would have to be 202hrs for 700 in total here, rather unlikely but not impossible
  11. Outstanding from the 6th til the 22nd in the lakes, then much more unsettled with over a months worth of rain in the last week making it wetter than average! 296 hours of sunshine, Mean of 17.9c, Highest temp 30c, rainfall 112mm
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sion,_Switzerland#Climate This place would suit me perfectly, continental version of england's climate
  13. Truely stunning day here in the Lake District, started the day off with 18c at 8am and 26-27c widely by the afternoon, even at 2000ft it felt around 21c with very little breeze, holding up at 24c well into the evening. Hopefully a similar day tomorrow
  14. June 75 is hard to beat for sunshine i think in Cumbria Carlisle had 278 hours, Sellafield 293 hours, Aspatria would probably have broken the 300 hour mark if it had recorded sun that month
  15. brilliant here, 4th day in a row over 21c, unbroken sunshine and little to no breeze. perfect summer weather here in the Lakes
  16. The Story of this Summer will be the cold rather than rain like last year, My guess for June is 12.8c
  17. 21.2c here fantastic day, obviously warmest day of the year and first 20c
  18. Id love to see cooler than normal temperatures from the mid may setup, what a load of rubbish
  19. 19th day today with no rain so a decent absolute drought here, last one was March last year unsurprisingly, but that only managed the bare minimum 15 days
  20. 16th March here, then a couple days early march then before that the 13th Feb
  21. I think they are quoting the UK mean temp for 1962, not the CET value http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/datasets/Tmean/date/UK.txt
  22. Anyone in the Oldham area record wind speed?, Im interested to know how strong it has been there today / this evening
