  1. http://www.metoffice...tab=climateMaps Going by the map (annual lying snow), upper eden valley is the snowiest lowlandish location in the north of england. The likes of Alston, Nenthead, Middleton in Teesdale are by far the snowiest settlements. The Lake District, Upper Eden Valley, North Pennines and Yorkshire dales are best for snow
  2. If you look other areas also lack snow such as some Scottish islands, Stranraer, Anglesey, Portland etc, maybe they are just too maritime to get snow to lye for a lengthy period
  3. What date was your 7cm on in December 2010? here had a level depth of 21cm after a fall around the 4th
  4. Joe laminate floori, works for me Edit - unusual substitute for the word...
  5. Summer 2012 here has been wetter than December 2011 - May 2012, so wetter than Winter and Spring combined, dont think this happens too often.....
  6. very interesting, where is this data from? i am also suprised at keswick as it is very low down in comparision with its surroundings, any ground above about 150m id expect to see a number closer to that of shap than keswick for the lake district. There is usually a regualar line where snow rarely sticks for long compared to where holds onto snow cover. anywhere west of and including cockermouth, the snow usually melts and the green coastal plain clashes with the white of the lake district.
  7. Surely you recorded over 21c on the 10th? I passed near egremont that day and the car thermo was showing 22c Having said that it does amaze me how cool your part of the coast is (St Bees and Sellafield stations) in comparison to the other parts of the coast even just a bit further north such as Workington. reached 22.2c under dull cloudy skies after a sunny morning so an unusual day for this summer anyway
  8. SP1986 was right, today a maximum of 20c was forecast and cloudy. There hasnt been a cloudy in the sky all day except for tiny cumulus bubbling up on top of the higher mountains. Max of 24.3c here, similar at Keswick
  9. Looking at the charts for friday, saturday and sunday, given it being early august with a lovely big high pressure system giving SE'ly winds. Surely high 20s widely would be expected with low 30s in the hotspots. For where i am only 21 / 22c is being forecast which is only a couple of degrees above average, likewise only 22c - 24c is forecast in parts of the south, which is also only a couple of degrees above average...
  10. One of the best days for thunderstorms here in the summer for a long while, about 4 hours of frequent thunder, over 10 different thunder storms/showers throughout the afternoon, eventually merging together to form a storm with frequent lightning, stretching about 10 miles in length
  11. A real continental feel here, multiple towering cumulus thunderstorms giving very regular thunder, interspersed with hot sunshine and feeling very humid, 20c
  12. Plenty of Thunder here with 3 differents storms at once at the moment blue sky too with sun keeping it warm at 20.5c
  13. Going on a regional basis at least, the big difference with the late 80s summers is, bits of them were reasonable, or as you say were cool, but dry, or weren't far off average sunshine wise in some months. Such as June 1986, mean max of 20.0c at Ambelside, 217 hours of sunshine at Aspatria and highest max's widely of 27 and 28 degrees. i think June 1988 was also a good month. The big difference with this summer is that both months are record dull and wet, and rotten on mean maximums, what will determine this summer is if it is a 3 strike horror, of if august can save it somewhat to be more in line with the late 80s summers Edit- i was about to say 1985 was a 3 month horror, but despite that june being as cool as this one, sunshine was average, as was rainfall
  14. 74 hours of sunshine at Leeming just south of you so far, so as probably one of the dullest Julys possible, its hardly a good month
  15. Whats your mean max so far this July and whats your average? Max here 18c, Keswick may just have reached 20c today
  16. This end of the Lakes was great today, the towering wall of cloud pushed south to around Keswick, and left blue skies above and to the north for most of the day. The sun was hot and we reached 23.1c here. A few miles away it was cloudy with drizzly showers visible just to the east of Keswick Edit - Sorry Damienslaw, didnt see you had commented on my post in the Summer topic, hopefully Friday will produce some decent sunshine too
  17. Finally, skies cleared this end of the Lake District, sunny all day, currently 23.1c, think the southern end of the Lakes has held onto the cloud, as a wall of cloud has been lingering over the fells all day
  18. almost unbroken sunshine here today, already about 11 hours of sunshine Max Temp of 19c slightly cool but much better than elsewhere seemingly
  19. reached 22c here in the morning, then long sunny spells redeveloped in the afternoon and the maximum reached 23c a good summers day all in all
  20. Well this June was certainly worse than 1991 here. If taking rainfall and sunshine as the main comparisons, then this June has been one of the worst ever. Beating both 1987 and 1972 by a long long way. And now here is looking like one of the coolest July days for a long time.
  21. Lots of thunder, warm rain showers and feeling humid and sticky outside
  22. Keswick has had 100.2mm for the 22nd, and had only 94mm on the wettest day of november 2009
  23. Torrential rain in a gale force wind, this is exceptional by october / novembers standards
  24. on roughly 70mm for the last 24 hours, keswick is approaching 100m for the day, unbelievable.
  25. 54mm here today already, much more to come, so basically the June average rainfall (60mm) will have fallen in a day. One of the worst summer months ever
