  1. To be fair, I don't think anyone takes the BBC graphics literally, it's just highlighting the potential for next week really. Call me old fashioned, but I much preferred the old style symbols to the modern graphics anyway.
  2. A brighter day today, but definitely a chillier feel with a nagging breeze. Max temp 3.7C. Too far off to predict snow distribution across the UK as we head into next week, but what perfect timing for the cold spell to hit during mid January with the sun almost at it's weakest.
  3. A raw feeling day here and quite cloudy throughout, temp struggled up to a max of 3.1C.
  4. Got down to -1.3C overnight, but temp has now risen to 0.6C with a few clouds having rolled across from the East.
  5. Those showers over North Wales up to West Lancs had no problem making it all the way over to the West Coast and even looked to have maintained their intensity judging by the radar. I would have thought they would have fizzled before then.
  6. Early cloud cover has largely shifted and it's a glorious winter morning here, not a breath of wind, 2.3C. Perfect for going out for my run later.
  7. That is certainly a surprise as there were reports of snow 100m lower than your elevation an hour or two ago just a few miles SE of you in the region. Just goes to prove how complex it all is when it comes to conditions required for snow to fall.
  8. A nice chilly morning here, quite a bit of cloud cover first thing, but the sun is now shining. Currently 1.4C with ground frost still in place. It certainly is downbeat in the mod thread this morning. I'm certainly not feeling downbeat though, a week of mostly dry weather with variable amounts of sunshine looms for my location and below average temps with frost by night. I'm more than happy with that for the time being. No point obsessing with snow potential days away, chance of snow can crop up at relatively short notice once the cold is in place. The possibility of some flurries of snow for Eastern parts of our region overnight.
  9. Nice to see the return of the frosty mornings, got down to -1.4C a couple of hours back, but since risen to -0.3C.
  10. A superb day today, sunny for much of it after some cloud this morning. A chilly feeling day with a max temp of 5.9C.
  11. Yeah, Jan 2010 was good in many places at all levels. My comment about altitude was just a general one really, not relating to that event.
  12. I've got a walking weekend lined up in the Lakes in Feb, so hoping for some decent snow accumulation between now and then to allow for some decent winter walking. Looking good for this at altitude at least in the extended outlook with temps remaining average or below.
  13. I know where you mean, I was the other side of the hospital, up on Ridge Hill. Amazing the difference just a few metres makes to rain vs snow and the depth of snow. Also get some urban heat island effect in the town centre as well meaning shorter lived and less snow accumulation.
  14. Some mist early on here, but has now cleared and we now have overcast skies, very still with no wind.
  15. Jan 2010 was certainly amazing. I was in Stalybridge at the time, exact same altitude as you mention above funnily enough. I measured 10 inches of snow and we also had a couple of three inch falls in Dec 09 and then 8 inches of snow from the East in Nov 2010. It was an amazing period for snow. The above is still nowhere nowhere December 1990 and February 1991 which were the best falls I have seen in my lifetime at low level. I was in the Midlands at the time. I don't have any measurements, but easily one to two foot of snow at least each time, possibly more, it was very deep.
  16. Today not as nice as yesterday, quite a bit of cloud around and a few showers earlier depositing another 2.6mm of rain. Perhaps the chance of one or two more showers today, but that should hopefully then be it for rain for a few days.
  17. Yeah, a week of dry weather is badly needed after the very soggy last few weeks and actually would be quite enjoyable. Great for getting out and about. As usual when a decent cold spell looms, some people in the mod thread already fretting about it being dry and little in the way of snow showing, micro analysing charts several days away.
  18. What an improvement to the weather today was, glorious sunshine, dry and a slight chill to the air. Looks like we have a few more days to enjoy like this with temperatures creeping down day on day. Certainly beats the rain.
  19. Not the washout we had yesterday during today, but we had rain on and off this morning. It dried up a bit this afternoon. 40mm of rain so far this year. Confidence now high for a drier spell of weather as we head into the weekend and into early next week, which will be very welcome.
  20. We ended up with around an inch of rain yesterday in the end. It's raining again this morning as well. The start of 2024 is certainly continuing the wet theme from the back end of 2023, but at least some colder, more settled conditions are on the horizon.
  21. A truly miserable day here once the rain set in this morning with flooding in many places on local roads and plenty more to come.
  22. A soggy end to the year here with frequent heavy showers streaming in. Anyway, happy New Year to all.
  23. A bright start here, but once again, showers/rain waiting in the wings out to the West.
