cheshire snow Yes, the metoffice text forecast is less than inspiring for tomorrow, makes it sound like the possibility of rain turning to sleet or snow at times. Are they having a last minute wobble? Models still look ok.

Scuba steve Its quite ridiculous in there right now, I had to double check I hadn't wandered into a regional forum by mistake.

Dark Horse I experienced the pain of that snow shield for several years, the most horrendous event being March 2013.
The snow accumulations don't look particularly amazing away from high ground, even if it does come off, so you wouldn't be missing much.

Day 10 still looks ok to me
Could still change further of course.

The Northern Ramper There is of course much joy with the shift South in the mad thread, but of course it's still 2 days away and yet to happen yet, so joy could turn to despair and vice versa. This is still not fully resolved and there could be further adjustments North or South.

Gusty winds here this morning. Dry at the moment, but a wet day in prospect.

cheshire snow ECM looks good. However, we just have to be mindful that there is a lot of will power being used in the mod thread to suck everything South, which I don't think has been programmed into the models

cheshire snow Should I start waxing my sledge in anticipation!?

Joe Snow Yes, things have been upgrading as we get closer to the event which is not normally the case and only 72 hours away now so confidence on the track will be ever increasing.

Day 10 Yeah, agreed. I'm assuming the metoffice output is just the raw UKMO model data?
Things are still evolving in terms of the position of the low on Thursday. I'm assuming the met will wait until tomorrow before issuing any warnings for Thursday until confidence is higher on the track.

Had Worse Heavy snow showing for Buxton on metoffice site. I think we'll stick with the pros!
Seriously though, some parts of the region could be absolutely plastered on Thursday, even to low ground. The likes of @WillinGlossop and @iand61 can certainly be very confident at this stage with their elevation.

The symbols have upgraded further for my location on Thursday on the metoffice website, now have several sleet symbols and one snow symbol. Not to be taken literally of course, but nice to see the increasing potential.

The symbols are slowly upgrading for my location on the metoffice automated output, now have a sleet symbol showing on Thursday morning.
An interesting text outlook from the metoffice for Thursday, probably more likely to be disruption from rain rather than snow in this area, but still far from nailed either way at this stage.

The sun has just burst through the cloud here and areas of blue sky have appeared, much brighter and has totally transformed the feel of the day.

Overcast but dry here at the moment so a definite improvement on yesterday so far. We'll see how long that lasts.

A Face like Thunder Yes, dark and miserable this afternoon with that kind of properly 'wet' type of drizzly rain that soaks you right through, not the best of days in this part of the region.

Joe Snow yep, we could really do with the return of the crisp, cold sunny days, but looks like the damp 'mild' weather is set to continue over the coming days in the reliable model timeframe.

After a decent day yesterday, it's a damp drizzly morning here. A turnaround in fortunes today across the region compared to yesterday by the looks of it with Northern parts looking like having a reasonable day.

It's been a reasonable day in this part of the region, it's been dry, bright at times and very little wind out.
Still another month of meteorological winter to go, so no thoughts of spring in my mind yet.

Well yesterday certainly wasn't the best of days. At least today promises to be much drier and we may even see the sun later. A case of make the most of it really with the rain returning again tomorrow.
The outlook is certainly pretty dismal in the reliable timeframe.

Another very useable day, dry throughout and mostly cloudy, so not a bad weekend really. The temperature was a bit up on yesterday, but still felt chilly with a bit more of a breeze. Temp is still rising, currently 9.7C.
Tomorrow is looking to be a washout, but at least we have had a reasonable weekend.

A very useable day here, dry throughout although rather cloudy. Average temp for time of year, certainly not overly mild, reached 7.4C.
Just winding down with a couple of ales now.

As others have said, a much calmer night last night. Overcast and dry here this morning, but does look like it is trying to brighten, currently 6.6C.
I'm off to the Lakes in two weeks for a walking weekend. I'm really hoping for a colder spell to provide some decent winter walking conditions. There is a signal for possible colder, wintry weather into the second week of February, but not holding my breath on that.

Winds have abated a lot here now, things much calmer. Some vicious gusts of wind overnight and squally showers. It's definitely caught out the metoffice this event.

A much better day today than yesterday and definitely a chilly feel, temperature reached 5.7C.
Some chopping and changing in the model output for tomorrow, as is to be expected, but I think I'll cast final judgment tomorrow after it's actually happened rather than before the event, as some seem keen to do.
