Some crazy totals here over the past 24 hours. 127mm at Waddington. 100mm at Cranwell. 98mm at Wittering. And no more than a yellow warning for these areas. It must be exceptionally rare to get rainfall totals this high in eastern England.

My cat is strictly indoors so no worries there. Been asleep all day snuggled on my bed!
-
52mm here, wettest day in years.
-
Now our 2nd October in a row that's surpassed 100mm. Our monthly average is 57mm.
-
No big deal here really, a wet day but not exceptionally so. Looks like the heaviest rain will stay to our south.
-
Yup, latest Arome is insane. That’s a huge area of 100mm+ covering some of the most densely populated areas of the UK (Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford etc).
-
Arome and Arpege both showing over 100mm here.
-
Could be the biggest rainfall event in Yorkshire since June 2007. Maybe even exceeding it.
-
GFS very much at odds with the high res models, who have the highest rainfall totals much further north.

Was only a matter of time really

Arome shows in excess of 100mm here over the next couple of days. Totally insane, maybe even unprecedented amounts for this part of the country. I think we had around 80mm in one day in June 2007.

Christmas trips to Lapland aren't uncommon either, certainly something I've considered before

I’ve noticed winter holidays abroad becoming more common in recent years. Lots of people I’ve spoken to are going to the Mediterranean in November/December.
-
It’s human nature to dislike cold and darkness so the moaning is understandable. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone in real life who likes the darker evenings but they’re a dime a dozen on here

It happens in Shetland most years and happens in Orkney occasionally. That's probably it though (excluding mountains).
-
The Californian coast is probably close to ideal. Take San Diego - average high of 25.2C in August, average low of 9.9C in December. Northern Italy can get quite chilly in the winter - Venice has colder winters than London.

Kinda funny really, because in the US the really hot cities like Houston, Miami and Phoenix were very small places before the invention of air conditioning - nobody wanted to live in the south before then. I would say that tropical climates are some of the worst for modern humans & modern lifestyles, but probably the best for hunter-gatherers.

Just over 2 months until the days start getting longer again

I much prefer frost to rain. Rain sucks. Unless it's a thunderstorm.

We have 4 days in a row with a yellow rain warning

Turned it on for an hour yesterday.
