  1. Well all I want is cold and if we get a decent covering of snow on Thursday night/Friday morning it will not melt because max temps are just a wee nudge above 0c. Actually the snow starts on Thursday morning and does not finish until Saturday morning so that would be 48 hours. Hopes up for what. The cold spell is on all 3 models, we are down for 1c maxes for 4 days. What more could you ask for? Before 2010 that would be the coldest part of the winter. http://www2.wetter3.de/Animation_06_UTC/138_35.gif
  2. This is what the irish met office people say. Temperatures will climb to 8 or 9 degrees during the day but will fall sharply during the night to between -2 and +1 degrees, with frost and icy patches forming. The wintry precipitation is likely to continue on Friday, with parts of the north and higher ground once again most at risk. A very cold day with highs of only 2 to 5 degrees. The cold conditions look like lasting into next weekend with very low daytime temperatures and some bitterly cold and frosty nights, but it should become dry on Saturday and Sunday. Still low single figure maxes for us in NI on Sunday so if any snow comes I can't see it melting.
  3. Cold spell looking good. -11c uppers and 515dam over us which is great. Snow should come on Thursday and last a couple of days. GFS has me down for 1c maxes out to Sunday from Thursday so that is good. Think this is better than the last cold spell, people are classing this as a 'brief' cold spell but it actually lasts like 4 days.
  4. Ok so this mornings round up.The cold spell begins on Thursday and lasts through Friday and Saturday. It is longer and colder than the last one so if all of us in NI don't see any snow cover then we need a kick up the a r s e. It does not look that good for southern ireland as it is more of an easterly progression so the cold uppers kind of by pass them.Maximum temps:Thursday - 2cFriday - 1cSaturday -1Those temps should sustain any snow cover.
  5. Why do they never mention NI on the model thread? They keep going on and on about NE England and how they are going to get all this snow when NE England isn't even that far north. This will be a North Westerly airmass so there will be more showers here! Ewgh.
  6. It lasts three days. Brief to me is about 12 hours.
  7. I think he is doing oceanography and they probably learn about like underwater features like dykes and the elevation of the sea floor.
  8. Ronan the ECM and UKMO are still on board. And you need to wait till the 18z because i've seen it change dramatically back the other way like that before.
  9. I know why do they say that? Scottish people don't even say 'snaw', its more like 'snae'
  10. Well thats what they are so which is normal for this time of the year. It means less sleet and more lying snow. Remember the last cold spell was potent but all we got was hail and wet snow. Well that is exactly why; the sea was above average. Think it was about 12.5c actually.
  11. Oh and I have some good news. The seas have cooled further and it is now 10.6c at Castlerock which is the mean sea temp for this time of the year. Less chance of sleet compared to the last cold spell.
  12. Well the ECM is still onboard so we are not out of the woods yet; ECM is still a bit east of what it is so we want that to come back west so we can get affected by it better. I think perhaps the 18z will come back on board, just wait to see. They posted this message by the NOAA on the forum about the GFS but I have no idea what it means.
  13. But thats always the case for us. Or else its dry
  14. It always gets me how it can go from -11c uppers to 7c uppers in one run. It just always seems over the top with the gfs
  15. Becuase its bloody boring... Just up on the mountain and it is foggy and dirzzly. Tbh today was just like a june day. You would never know its november.
  16. Why wait to Saturday? The snow comes on Friday morning in the early hours. So approximately 6 days away. If it is still there tomorrow then that is 5 days away. EDIT: now gibby has started a big rant about how its not going to happen as if it is impossible. Eugh get over it
  17. aw aye not cold enough for snow. Aye you mean the south of england, hate it when they give a biased unrepresentative view of how things really are.
  18. Happy days has just said 'well out to friday and the only places with snow potential are scotland and perhaps the hills of northern ireland'. Sorry babe but the gfs is showing -9c uppers with 2c maxes and snow right down to sea level; perhaps the hills
  19. Actually the 0z isn't even that much of a downgrade for me, more cork. It still has snow for me on Friday.
  20. It happened with the last cold spell but I think the gfs is wrong this time and it will be back on board again.
  21. Yes it is true. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleraine http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limerick http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow
