  1. Hey for all you know the wind might really have been 525mph
  2. Basing this on nothing more than woman's intuition, i think this is going to go further North than expected. I think it will go up the channel and into SE England hitting Hampshire, West Sussex and Kent the worst with london also taking a battering. Now I've said that it's going to decide to head south and go play in Spain or something.
  3. *stamps foot* I want thunder and lightning and hail *sulky pout*
  4. Right don't laugh at me because I don't know if I am being had on but.... I have my old geography teacher on facebook and she says a rule of thumb for atlantic storms is: wherever the storm looks like it is going to track, go 50-100miles north and that is where it's really going to track. Any truth in that or am i really gullible?
  5. What sort of damage would we see if this did come back our way Coast?
  6. I assume the hail and thunderstorms you're getting over in the west aren't coming this way?
  7. Was pretty rainy and windy last night. Got wokej up at about 1am by a very strong gust that shook the house. Nothing seems to be out of place though. Oddly it was on the same day as Hurricane bawbag that our fence panel blew down, but with the stronger gusts last night, nothing happened.
  8. The gusts are beginning to howl now. I think my rain guage might get blown over. Tonight I think will be perfect for having the window on the latch (so a tiny bit of air comes in) so I can listen to the wind and rain as I drift off.
  9. Started to rain properly about half and hour ago and the wind is piking up quite quickly. How long do we think the rain will last for looking at the band? Oddly no wind warnings as we went over the bridge and they usually have them even for relatively mild winds.
  10. I guess what Ice Pop may be trying to say (correct me if I'm wrong!) is that it seems to odd to join a weather enthusiast forum when the weather you like is well.....nothing. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I suppose it's like joining a sports car enthusiast forum when what you like is a reliable Citroen Berlingo.
  11. The road signs on the way to work all said very heavy winds forecast from 6pm.
  12. I heard that as well. Se supposed to get a battering with gale force winds, heavy rain and possibly tornadoes, yet MetO is pretty quiet. I imagine the radio may be exagerrating things.
  13. Forgive me as i am still a relative noob. I see the tornado and ligthning prediction maps seem to have the highest risk on the leading edge of the storm, that is the same thing with hurricanes, yes? Will we also experience an 'eye' type thing? All i can say is look at those isobars! I don't think i've seen them that close together in the UK for years and years.
  14. I hope you get a good one too jane! I've barely had a storm, but I know you haven't even had a rumble, so i hope your patience pays off.
  15. There is nothing wrong with it. As i have said on the other thread people are fans of lots of things that unfortunately may kill people as a consequence. Surely there's no point in enjoying anything if you stop enjopying it the moment it has a fatality. As i've said it's very rarely the weather that directly kills you, but lack of preperation or not following guidelines. For example what kills a lot of people in heatwaves is not drinking enough water, not seeking shade etc. It's very difficult (unless it's a flash flood or similar) to be killed by extreme weather if you are following all precautions and advice. If anything those who are fans of extreme weather make it safer for everyone else by seeing what's coming and providing warnings. Hell if it wasn't for storm chasers tornado warnings would be a lot worse. NO ONE who is a fan of extreme weather wishes damage or death on people, but sadly that is a consequence sometimes. Surely it's better to be a fan of the extremes of nature than the extrmes of man?
  16. I'd agree with that actually. Sure I don't know too much about charts and the like, but from what I've seen i reckon you'res spot on. My elderly neighbours have been well and truly scaremongered and are tying everything down and stocking up on tins....
  17. *cough* sorry to interrupt, but I posted that, not Jane *exits quietly*
  18. Yes but most of those deaths were not from heat alone, but the consequences of it. For example, people not drinking enough water, not seeking shade etc. In many weather related deaths, it's not the weather itself that kills but people not taking the correct precautions.
  19. Ah here's that rain now. Sounds lovely, not hard, but decent. It's at times like this I wish i could put a pause on the weather and press play when I'm lying in bed with the windows open.
  20. This is how I feel. If people didn't enjoy things that killed people, no one would enjoy anything Of all the things that people enjoy, weather has got to be pretty low down on the lst of things that kill.
  21. Hmm, that rain hasn't really transpired to be much considering it was supposed to be really havey looking at the radar.
  22. Rain has just started here, looks like the heavier stuff is due in about half an hour according ot the radar.
  23. I know this won't mean alot to anybody who doesn't live in Kent. But a family friend of ours is a police officer and he told us that there have only ever been 4 attempts to close the M2 bridge since 1985 (he doesn't know about before then). One of them was the great storm of 1987. Apparently it didn't work as the wind kept blowing away all their barricades, but luckily very few people tried to cross anyway. It's uspposed to close if gusts will be over 50mph, but it hardly ever happens.
