Thanks John for the well explained forecast and yes it has been cold here today with the temperature lowering from 4c in the early morning to 2.9c at 3pm according to the Met Office recording site.

Sun is shining here and it was dark at 2am this morning when i was up not feeling too well which must have been down to too much gardening
It will be a great result if it stays dry today and the rain starts just as we go back to work rather than the other way around.
For another reason I just came across some photos of December 2012 when we had all that snow just before Xmas then you look out of the window today and can appreciate how wonderful our weather can really be.

it adds as much as numerous posts in here today....and besides sometimes a little humour helps lighten the soul Chris
I appreciate the clarification AJ and I must be reading a different thread.
What ever happens can we agree that if the regional threads do open next winter it is made very clear the date they close for summer so I can send my goodbye see you next winter cards

Not to change the topic, but on a somber note, a far more serious news story is breaking from Nickleodeon...
'Tiddles the Tortoise' has been sighted as stuck up a tree, reports correspondant Peppa Pig......Owner, Dr Hamster is reported as 'inconsolable'
more to follow........
just to put things into perspective
Well that adds a lot to the thread!!!
I really don't follow the argument that if all the regional threads are not being used then close them, the same could be said about the model thread which appears to have a few people posting every day. I don't want to have to look around the rest of the forum to try and find my fellow area members who have suddenly been cut off until next winter.
It would have been nice to have had prior notification of this decision so people could have at least said there goodbys until the end of 2014 rather than everything closed at just after nine this morning.
How about a voting thread so all forum members can indicate whether they want the regional threads to continue over the summer or maybe a happy with smaller version eg, north south, east and west

Eh ??? You surely aren't leaving us AS ??
Hopefully not, however the loss of many long term members and also committed forum hosts over the past weeks/ months has made this feel a very different place

Well has something developed as when this was issued earlier at 3.40am there wa no mention of heavy rain which we have just had for the past hour
Widespread mist and low cloud initially, and patchy fog. Then gradually becoming brighter inland, with sunny intervals developing. Scattered mainly light showers today, although an isolated sharp afternoon shower is possible. Mist and low cloud may persist along the coast. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Was it Linus in Charlie Brown who wherever he went had a cloud above him? Today I've been to Woodbridge in Suffolk (not far from you K) and back and apart from 5 minutes in Woodbridge, it has been dank, dreary, dull and disappointing, but particularly so (and this is for you Charltonkerry) around the Dartford river crossing!I pulled in at the Reigate Hill car park at about 6pm on my way home to see what it was like up there and whether I could get a restorative view across the open countryside and what did I get? Fog. Junior cricket practice cancelled - rain. And now, after 6 hours driving today and having started work at 6am before the drive, I have been 'asked' to drive to south west London by my wife to a party where she will enjoy a glass or 4 and I won't.Grumpy does not really cover it.Have a good weekendAS
Who said that, it's so foggy here i can't see anything

Latest BBC weather has removed the storm threat this evening and that front from the west seems to be coming through earlier around 4am but seemed to break up.
Tomorrow see some showers in the afternoon but Sunday seems to be the day when a storm or two could be around the area.

Well looking at he radar for Europe, something has to develop over the south of France as there is no precipitation down there.
I wonder if the influence of the low pressure coming in from the west has pushed everything east and that rash of showers of Holland moving north was the showers shown on the BBC graphics last night moving up through the SE and EA.
Still only 11.6c here and due to a solid brick built house i have had to put the heating on for them who have colds

-
Well the temperature outside at the moment is only reading 11.6c, sun where are you?
-
Looks a bit misty on the downs at the moment, however if it cleared and we had a good thunderstorm move up from the south, I don't think a marquee up there with a load of metal would be the place to be watching from
-
seems to be lots of heavy rain around and about which is growing however no lightening being shown on the radar, if only the sun would come out
-
Still cloudy and murky here with very little rain this morning.
-
Nice shower developing to my south, can see the core of heavy rain and possibly hail falling. Looking at the appearance I'm just waiting to hear thunder any time soon.
Here's a web cam picture from dunstable direction, seems to be growing and moving towards MK direction
-
Watching that shower to the south of Bedford which appears to have formed and seems to be expanding, think it can be viewed on this dunstable downs camera at the moment

Just had an awesome storm in oxfordshire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onUQAD04TF4&feature=youtu.be
Looks good, just returned from Milton Keynes where there were heavy spots of rain, back here in Bedford
-
Foggy here although I think the sun could be out very soon, there does seem to be the possibility of a shower later and that's not us lot off to MK shopping centre.
Temperature at 7.9c with 97% RH
-
It's darker than a witches hat here and the rain is coming down in buckets, probably the reason the wife has just come in from the garage looking a bit pale
No thunder so far

AS, it's probably easier to reduce the garden growth than the waistline
In the belt of heavy rain north of the Thames, if only this was January i would be out making a snowman and measuring for the snow depth cup

Afternoon. After a wet morning and afternoon here in East Sussex starting with the tip of the first band of heavy rain just catching Hailsham not long after sunrise (11 mm of rain in total), with no 'sferics to make things interesting, it's now gloriously sunny with a real washed-clean spring feel. Blackbirds wars have broken out in the back garden, sparrows are trying to invade the house and so far I haven't been attacked by wasps.
Sounds like a documentary that Sky would like making 'Blackbird Wars'
We are just seeing the rain arrive, maybe some heavier burst in a while before it clears through.

Any plans to attend this years river fest in July? I may go as it is only a short drive for me, plus I have family in Kempston aswell
It's looking very likely as we will probably be there with the local hospital radio crew, once confirmed I will let you know as we could have a small net weather meet up
Rain now wetting the ground but not that heavy, temperature has fallen back slightly.

Same here, although the thunder and lightening action seems to be further south. I am thinking of asking the Highways Agency to have their matrix signs divert any storms up the M25 then up the M1 rather than along the M4, sorry AJ.
Temperature here is up to a respectful 13.3c.

Anyone ever been stung by a hornet? One of the most painful things I have ever experienced then getting rushed to hospital because I began to loose my ability to breath!
Glad I haven't, it happened to that golfer Larrazabal yesterday who jumped in the lake to get away from a swarm.

Sun in again here although still dry.
-
Yes CK, it looks like yesterday was the best day although there is mention of rain early and late in the latest forecast on the met office web site.

Light covering here in Kempston with some snow on the trees making it look nice. No problem with hard surfaces and roads were gritted again at 3am this morning.Soon be gone as the slightly warm air comes down before it turns much colder at the weekend.
