  1. Still mild outside (9.8c) although the wind today seem to have taken the edge off as there was very little sunshine due to a number of showers which have been passing through.  At least the intensity of rain has dropped to provided some welcome relief to the areas which were flooded a week or so ago.  It crossed my mind today that there are many people now coping with the problems after the water has left their houses and how quick the news channels dropped the story when the water started to go down and problems in other parts of the world took the headlines.

We all know that we cannot take the virtual world of the internet as a substitute for real life. But in addition to the obvious value of mutual support for personal and health matters, when an underlying issue that has been going on in this little regional internet community and has served as a threat to undermine it and caused problems over at least several months for a few unfortunate members within it, then I think that it nevertheless proves just how important and valuable it can bePosted Image .... whatever the weatherPosted Image

  3. Hello all

A chilly 1.7c in Reigate, clear blue skies, touch of frost on the shaded grass.

The 3 boys have not yet emerged from the 'sleep' over. Last seen about 10pm clutching bars of Aero (1 orange and 2 green, so if it's all gone wrong there will be something of a mess to clear up.....)

    Have a good day

    AS

AS, I know the feeling as last week we had two sleepovers in one weekend (sounds like a song) one for the ten year old and one for the 16 year old which then stretched into two days. If they last much longer I may have to charge B&B ratesPosted Image .  I have been to town and the sun is out although it feels a little nippy and as I speak the cloud cover is moving in from the west, at least it's not raining.

  4. I don't see the point - either tell both the public and councils or admit defeat and don't predict a whole season predominant weather at all.

Councils will spend according to MetO advice infinitely more on preparation for a particular sort of winter than the public - say if they'd predicted Winter 13/14 correctly, I might have bought that nice mac in the sale, or invested in some really good wellies.

Councils spend millions of our council tax and government money - so in a macro-economic sense, it's worse.

I wonder how many tonnes of rock salt are sitting around council depots at the moment, funny how one year we nearly run out and then this year it was sand bags in short supply.

    shows high pressure gone

the low to our west could go anywhere

    it may die

it may go south of us which might be where the charts are hinting at cooler conditions at the end feb start of march

it also may hit us direct again

truthfully not sure of next week at present and can only see how the fax charts pan out on a 5 day outlook

    regards

lets hope ecm is right tonight Posted Image

John, reading the met office extended forecast seems to go along with this thinking or more rain for the north and west and less in the south east along with some frost.  This will hopefully help to reduce the flooding risk as we go through the next few weeks.

One thing I have noticed since last week when the models were showing the amount of rain for this area it was a lot less than suggested which has helped the the EA to move the water down the River Ouse without too much problems.  I would think that anyone on the levels are happy of less rain now they have had to switch off the new pumps for 48 hours as they were destroying the river bank due to the force of water being pumped out. I must admit that when I first saw all the pipes lined up and there was a suggestion that they would be able to force against the tidal flow I was surprised that they were not angled down stream.
