  1. Looking more and more like a breakdown since yesterday to me, certainly in south and west England, Wales and Ireland.

Very surprising really, considering synoptics and most forecasts

I have to be honest here, but this cold snap has been nothing spectacular here in south wales. Yea we had a lot of snow for 1 to 2 days of the whole winter, but this is nothing out of the ordinary.

Here the snow has almosst gone anyway with the sun being out. yes its been cold, but its been cold and mostly sunny which is actually what I like. The adlantic weather is awfull here. It just misserable and damp.

Everyone here keeps talking about the East side of the country and the midlands but what about us welsh folk. Surely the breakdown would occur here much faster than the east side if the adlantic is pushing in.

Whats the mean charts saying about wales as a whole. I would imagine the temps here increasing a lot quicker and to more a degree than the east. I really dont want this break down to occur and hold hopes like everyone else because I love the sunshine even if it is -10 outside.

This is going to sound mad , but we have had snow for about 2-3 hours the whole time and its been light. We probably had about 1-2 CM maybe I was very unlucky.

  2. I have been reading with a lot of intrest and all compeling arguments.

What i would like to know if possible lets just say the adlantic does win, does that mean back to normal for the rest of the season as its only early feb still a good 6weeks left of winter yet.

What do you think the chances of another similar setup occuring in feb because thats forecast a below average CET also.

Personally being in wales I hate the Adlantic weather, damp cold misserable rain constantly. Least with snow and ice it feels fresh, looks nice, and its something away from the norm. Hell the adlantic destroys our summers so its like 340 days of the same thing differant day.

  3. Just found the Anemometer i got a few years ago, so took that out to get the shade temp and its around 0.8C, but in the sun 6.5C and a thaw has set in, snow in the sun on shed roof is melting. Still looking good for sunday.

Whats going to happen on sunday then. Is this the break down thats comming?.

IM on the coast and it looks like its going to start to get warmer towards next week for me. So it probably be sleet or rain

  4. The main low centre is over the bristol channel right now - but there is another one now forming down central england that seems to want to come straight at us as well - interesting times

Thats what I thought I could see. Something has happend because everything that should have happened didnt, wonder why these new lows are forming

  5. No I think you find the eye is to the east and south of bristol. Looking at radar loops that stuff comming in is a lot further west than it should have been. Done see how its going to be hours of snow fall tho as its moving pretty fast.

I am more intrested in the swirl thats in south of england right now as that looks much heavier as it swings over london is that whats comming our way tommorow. Or have we lost our resident forecaster.

Id really love a diagram if possible. Snow stopped here about 30 mins ago

We got about 1/2 a CM i think a sprinkling

  6. The low that's producing all this snow has moved and is moving west south west - causing everything to shift further west - it also looks like the snow over england currently could have our name on it as well!!! pepping up things for tomorrow

Thats what I thought I could see about an hour a go.

Jack can I have a job haha

  7. not spoiling anyone's fun, just saying it as I see it, because i know not everyone has the radar

the low is still perilously close to clipping cardiff, and if it does the snow WILL ease.

if it pulls to the south though, as I believe it is forecast to do, he may well get a pasting.

regardless, i think this event will be bigger than lots on here expected it to be.

I agree I think the low is moving slightly west at the moment looking at the radar. It was moving east but its stalled and only slightly moving west but it is. Only needs to come across 30 miles or so and that changes things big time for everyone. I am actually filled with a bit of hope now.

  8. Jack I been watching the Radar is it me but it looks like the low is moving west again as it starts to wrap or am I seing things because thats what I want to see.

Call it a hunch or a feeling ( I usually get it storm chasing and its usually right)

That low is going to swing further west for us.

  9. To my untrained eye, it looks like the snow-hole curently over Swansea and stretching to the north is quickly being filled in with precipitation. It ain't heavy, but it is heading your way.

As I've been saying all day- this 'event' has a long way yet to run. Nothing is set in stone.

He aint heavy hes my brotherrrrrr lmao.

I know lets try reverse psycology I DONT WANT IT TO SNOW I'm not happy, in fact I'm quite sad I WANT TO WORK!.

    see if that works

  10. Thanks mrmonopoly you've just answered the question I was feeling abit foolish about asking. Does this also mean the longer it stalls the better chance south wales has when it starts sinking south.

Honest answer I dont know, if it stays where it is, whatever is in the midlands will feed down into us. If you watch the radar for last 3 hours you can see its only moved about 20 miles or so. Its now realling starting to pull moisture in from channel now, and its started to feed the low percep even furhter. I THINK what the models are saying is, as it sinks down the wrap around will swing across and catch the border of wales. People want it to swin gmore west so the arm covers more of wales as it does so. I personally would like to see it swing round more, but hopefully yank more down from midlands. The band over the north is going to move south west over pembs and out to sea as the other low moves down pulling it with it.

Wouldnt it be awsome if the lows swung around a complete 360 and caught us a 2nd time hehe.

Jack am I correct in my explanation

  11. Im conused by the radar the precip is moving all over the place, the precip from the north seems to want to come towards us the precip to the west doesnt seem to be moving and the precip to the south doesnt seem to be doing much.

Thats because the low has stalled and everything is wraping around it. The low looks centred over bristol at the moment and in last hour or so its hardly moved. The percep comming in is on the hook swirl if that makes sence so the percep on one edge is just sat over pembrokshire and is being feed in a staight line with shed loads more behind it. Its strange to see percep moving in that sort of fashion it dont happen often because it usually comes across from west to east instead of from north east to south west. Pembs is going to be in the fireing line for hours and hours by looks of it. Thats why we in swansea are getting nothing is because we are inside the centre if you like where its dry with all action on a circle around us.

  12. at the moment seems like the showers are staying well away from Bridgend area, any idea when then might start getting here? current temp -1.2C. Hope school is closed tomorrow either cause the teachers cant get here from swansea cause of snow there, we have snow here so it closes or both :) although still not sure about anything atm, keep watching the radar's and hoping!

Both me and you mate always seem to be in this big white section on the radar while everything else wraps around us lmfao the shield is up and holding good

  13. Ian Fergusons post in This thread seems to show the band of ppn currently over the Isle of Wight region sweeping up and back into south wales with a ton of snow, tomorrow could be very different, Pembs could equally get a lot from the western flank.

Looks Brilliant for a lot of people. You chaps in the East enjoy :(

IM not going to ask for snow now, as it sets you up for a fall. Its typical tho aint it. I wont be awake at 3am preying. What I didnt think was if we all cross the 7 bridge in a max exodus, and we all sorta like blow at the same time we could cause enough of a ripple to bring it further west and then follow it down the M4 with some fans or summin
