  1. Hmm, this cold spell isn't good for us then, as we haven't seen even 2cm of lying snow yet! but most places around us seem to be doing good. Not all to happy about it but nothing i can do apart from hope, which i am losing fast sad.gif well i guess a light dusting would be better than nothing. if we even get that.

Yeah true, lol well wont get me hopes up any more for tonight then! mellow.gif

Talk about luck tho down the western side, must be awsome being there. I think if I want snow from now on I move to Canada

  2. Is there any chance of it spinning right around and hitting further west of wales later on??

Also wont that band in the north peter out before it gets here??

As i see it it looks like from Swansea - Bridgend - Cardiff area etc mainly miss out, too far east to get the irish sea snow and to far west to get the main batch??

    Hope im completely wrong.

Thats how it looks to me to looking at it we are bang in the middle of both passing either side

  3. Hi everyone, been very disapointing here today, had some heavy flurries but just not sticking here, just looked towards my west and there is snow edging closer and closer, hope we get some snow that will stick here.

Edit - Oh well we got some Snizzle instead.

Its incredible to far west, or to far east im bang in the middle of the 2 and its sunny here

  4. I beg your pardon why would I lie? slightly pointless really? I see a bit of childish envy kicking in here. You ask anybody in carmarthenshire if they have a good blanket of snow and they will respond with a good answer. Its still snowing and more is on the way. I am so sorry that you haven't had any but there is no need to take it out on us on the forum and type a load of nonsense to suite your own needs.

Thats so true dont think there was any need for someone to get envy. I have no snow left at all now, and seem to be in the huge gap between the 2 bands and 850HPA is now pushign them south.

IM really dissapointed but thats life. It happens when I go storm chasing in the summer they either come or they dont. This cold spell for me has been nothing spectacular at all, where as for some its been worse ever. Its all about being in the right place at the right time.

  5. Hi keep us updated on the situation there, looks like another batch of showers is pushing in the next few hours.

Ohh man I didnt know they had downgraded anything thats a real bummer was looking forward to a real winter wonderland later.

I think I just watch the radar and bow out the forums for a bit. Hope it all changes again. Where is jackone when you need him :D

  6. Not stricktly true, most of carmarthesnhire/pembroke/Swansea/Northern Neath portalbot. Gwent valleys, Northern Rhonfa cynnon taf/torfaen etc already have snow cover, last time i checked they were very much in South Wales.

Dunno where u get that from, no snow in Neath Port talbot I can assure you. It snowed for about 5 mins and left less than a mm. There is plenty of ice tho

  7. Temperture a freezing cold -5.3c here already and falling, could it get colder than asmorning:O

The thickest layer of frost ive ever seen today theres like over an inch thick of ice on the cars which formed from just the frost.

I hope we get the snow we been waiting for here because West Wales has had snow and Merthyr northwards I want my turn now:(

Its always the east tho, Kinda sucks being in Port Talbot, im on the coast anyway so even if it does come it be sleet at best.

  8. No it's not it doesn't work like that, so your telling me when we have 20cm of snow we have 200mm of precipitation?

When all the snow melts how much water do you think is apparent on the snow left 200mm is not that far feached. It causes wide spreed flooding so yes it is possible.

1 drop im sure is does not equate to 1 snowflake, im sure its more than that.

  9. Im totally confused now.

So the snow even is only for tuesday and maybe wed, but after that its a classic adlantic situation with rain returning. I am getting so many mixed messages now.

I was under the impression this cold spell was a good week and beyond into early part of next week before adlantic wins.

Whats the pro's version of whats ahead. I know about fronts comming down from the north, what happens when they have passed. Does something move allowing a more westerly wind in.

Preassure looks to be high for at least 10 days ahead for here 1025+ through most of it

  10. Notice the beeb showing more rain on the map than snow tonight, which will be all of snow as far as I can see.

-6c upper air is the highest it gets, there is a slight West element of the warm irish sea so those areas it will be rain/sleet low ground.

Coldest night here since december 2005 at -7.4c!!!

I agree batle grounds are good if your on high ground, its awsome having a day or 2 of winter wonderland then its all gone, doing a time lapse on that is fantastic

  11. First of all GFS is forecasting snow for pretty much all of Wales, NAE at 06Hz if forecasting temps of 0c, so dew points clearly not a problem. As for GFS, it has a clear issue of overstating temperatures around coastal areas, it always over does temps, being an American models this is not seen as a priority for them. And as a result of overstating these temps, dew points are correspondingly overstated.

I fully understand that temps are milder the further west you go, but for the reasons I have outlined frequently today, the majority of Wales if not all of it are the right side of marginal.

Unfortunately there the only FAX Chart shown is the T+24, as subsequently may well show the "Warm Front" keeping well to the west of Wales as per the previous ones.

When it comes to battlegrounds of cold air vs adlantic I always 99% of the time get rain as I am to close to the sea and at times I wish I was back in Garnant. Even if a battleground occured the snow would be short lived as eventually the adlantic always wins.

I really do hope its going to snow its heart out, but enjoy what little we do get, take some stunning pictures of everything white. I am now looking forward to a fantastic May storm period.

I can imagine the climate is super complex and forecasting even hours ahead in this situation is hard. Lets wait until thursday night to see what weekend will bring.

  12. Can someone please explain what the charts are showing later on the week. Am I correct in assuming a front from SW is trying to push up but it looks like this brings warmer air with it or what.

Can I have it in semi layman terms, and what the chances are :air_kiss: thanks guys

This is now the snowiest January since I kept consistent records back in the 1998/1999 winter. With 2 Met Office Snow Days. Which equals the total for winter 1998 to 2009 combined. A 3rd Met Office snow days seems likely for tomorrow.

There is an adjacent flat field which is still largely snow covered, despite sunshine all day.

Generally over the rest of the estate, Shaded areas, of all surfaces, paths, pavements, drives and gardens are snow covered. While areas open to the sun, which largely are sloped towards the sun, are largely snow free.

Snowiest since records began I wish, not had any at all here yet near port talbot. Rained mostly. Can you explain whats happening later on in the week for me in idiot terms and what the possible chances are and what might put a downer on everything
